Ave Maria was my Grandmother's favorite song. I sang it this past Christmas during mass. I hope to sing it again this Christmas for her. From a young age it has become my favorite and has helped me during difficult times.

This was my mum's favourite song. She didn't speak a word of English, nor understood it, but she'd listen to this at least once a week and dance on the balcony rain or shine, her children followed, and her grandchildren as well. She died last week and I'm trying to dance to this with a smile on my face remembering everything wonderful about her. She didn't need to understand the lyrics, music is truly beautiful like that, you just gotta feel it. Rest in peace mommy, I'll be there in a minute on that balcony with you dancing and hugging you. One thing a lot of people do not realize is why opera singers have such strong voices. When opera was developed there were no microphones. The opera singer had to be heard over a full orchestra and also be heard to the very back of the auditorium. They had to learn to project their voices by focusing on those people at the very back of the audience. Really. Amazing that that can be done. Think of Jesus talking to the 5,000. What a voice he must have had. Orators could talk to large crowds at that time.
My drill sergeant in Basic could be heard from the forest across a field while facing away from us reciting the Drill sergeant's creed in front of our families. This practice still exists. I could even understand what he was saying. I was at least 2 football fields + away for context.
Technically that Jesus was able to speak to 500 people is another miracle, since it was surprising how everyone could hear him clearly (and in different languages) since it was a group that was not determined (Corinthians 15: 6)

You should also know that from Christ’s conception until his death, Mary was united to her Son in his work of salvation that is why this is what took place at the Cross:
JOHN 19:26-27
26. Seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, 'Woman, THIS IS YOUR SON.'
27. Then to the disciple he said, 'THIS IS YOUR MOTHER.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
With these words Jesus entrusted his beloved disciple to Mary, telling him to see her as his own mother.
Rafter, just reflect for a moment:
Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, is dying on the Cross and tells "the disciple" to behold his Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. It seems that Jesus is referring to John, but the actual words are "THE DISCIPLE." And so, in that moment, Mary becomes Mother of all of us disciples of Jesus, including those in our own time who follow Jesus.
The most straight forward theological answer is simply this: Mary is our mother because she is the Mother of Jesus and we, by baptism are incorporated into Jesus. Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. (1 Cor 12:27). Jesus is the head of the body, the Church. (Col 1:18) But since Mary gave birth to the head of the Body of Christ she also gave birth to the rest of the Body of Christ, HIS CHURCH which is US.
When the Apostles and disciples gathered to pray after the Ascension of Jesus, Mary was with them praying for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Mary continues to pray before God for the Church and all humanity.
Like Mary, the Church has a maternal role, giving birth to people in Christ. The Church can never cease to look at Mary, who gave birth to Jesus Christ. The Church contemplates Mary’s motherhood in order to fulfill her own calling to be mother of the members of Christ’s Mystical Body, the Church.

I know that in our culture there can be a discomfort with praying for Mary’s intercession on our behalf, because this seems to be exercising a mediating role that crosses a line set out in the First Letter to Timothy: “For there is one God.
There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human who gave himself as a ransom for all” (1 Tm 2:5).
SO JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONE AND ONLY MEDIATOR. JESUS ALONE IS OUR SAVIOR.
But this does not deny the possibility that Christ would permit others to share in his mediating role. Here on earth we routinely ask others for prayers. Instinctively, we turn to holy people for their prayers because they seem nearer to God. Why would we stop asking saints for their prayers after they die? If we believe they are in heaven, would not their prayers be even more effective?
Here's what Scripture says:
• REVELATION 5:8; 8:3-4:
"In heaven the elders and angels offer up the PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS [on earth] as incense before the throne of God."
• HEBREWS 11:1-12:1
"Seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [in other words, the heroes and martyrs of the faith from ages past], let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us."
•>Thus, the heroes and martyrs are a good example for us, and surround us like spectators at a running race. Therefore, obviously, they know about us and can see our struggles from heaven.
• JAMES 5:16-18:
'The prayer of the good man has powerful effect."
In other words, the most powerful intercessors in the Church are those most advanced in holiness.
And who is more advanced in holiness than a soul who is already fully sanctified and in heaven, as the Mother of God is?
This is why from the earliest times, Christians have sought Mary’s prayers and help and why there has always been the basic sense on the part of the Church that Mary continues in heaven to be concerned for the growth of all members of the Church into holiness and for an intimate relationship with her Son.

This was my mum's favourite song. She didn't speak a word of English, nor understood it, but she'd listen to this at least once a week and dance on the balcony rain or shine, her children followed, and her grandchildren as well. She died last week and I'm trying to dance to this with a smile on my face remembering everything wonderful about her. She didn't need to understand the lyrics, music is truly beautiful like that, you just gotta feel it.

One thing a lot of people do not realize is why opera singers have such strong voices. When opera was developed there were no microphones. The opera singer had to be heard over a full orchestra and also be heard to the very back of the auditorium. They had to learn to project their voices by focusing on those people at the very back of the audience. Really. Amazing that that can be done. Think of Jesus talking to the 5,000. What a voice he must have had. Orators could talk to large crowds at that time.

My drill sergeant in Basic could be heard from the forest across a field while facing away from us reciting the Drill sergeant's creed in front of our families. This practice still exists. I could even understand what he was saying. I was at least 2 football fields + away for context.
Technically that Jesus was able to speak to 500 people is another miracle, since it was surprising how everyone could hear him clearly (and in different languages) since it was a group that was not determined (Corinthians 15: 6)
