Sethi: With so many slaves, you could build an army.
Moses: But I have built a city. These lions of pharaoh will guard its gates, and it shall be the city of Sethi's glory.
Sethi: Are the slaves loyal to Sethi's glory or to you, Moses?
Moses: The slaves worship their god. And I serve only you.

Love how he destroys the accusations against him with a single brick.

Boom!
This movie is *filled* with so many powerful scenes and superb acting.
And I don’t think Hollywood could make another one that has the most powerful scenes ever to try to re-create this film something tells me if they tried they would go broke, and it was They would have nowhere near the impact this original would have
and as usual it lacks historical authenticty value
the original silent version was also good.
This scene was amazing. The scale was pure genius.
I was a landscaper through college. As a teaching point, the company owner was more than happy to explain techniques as time permitted. It is very clear why the Egyptians built things that clearly stood the test of enormous time.
Could it be the very dry climate, perchance?
@@DavidOfWhitehills Some of those pyramids were built while the land was still lush jungle. To survive the changing climate for so long only emphasizes their superb engineering skills.
@@TechnoMageB5 No, Egypt has been as dry as today since 3000 BC. The pyramids started in 2500 BC.

“The city he builds shall bear my name; the woman he loves shall bear my child.”- Ramses
Giggity.
The testosterone in this scene is overwhelming
No, it's exactly right. The level of testosterone today is underwhelming, making this scene look all the more overwhelming.

A backfire of Biblical proportions.
I love the expession or lack thereof, on Yul's face, when he's putting weights on the scale. And when Charlton drops the brick on the scale to both make their points. In a way, i find it a little comical, but i ❤love❤ that scene! 2 brother's debating, trying to get their points across. I always get a giggle out of it.😊
These were actors Real acting they depicted bible story so well Sorry they never got to know the true God of whom it was about
@@karenemay725 :"I" personally don't/ didn't know "their personal relationship" to/with God. HOW do YOU, KNOW? They BOTH may have and probably met with God, BEFORE, you. THAT'S, a good thing, and a Blessing.
Was it debate or defence? It looks like it had life and death implications. Those days, King had power over life and death.
@@ForPeace14 I'll say i like the interactions between Moses and Ramses in that scene. Two "brother's", trying to make their points with their "father". And Yul's "stare", is just, classic ❤Yul.❤
@@ForPeace14 today also...
As Seti listed off the accusations to Moses and Moses confessed, Ramses dropped a weight on the scales like a 'Strike one, strike two, strike three'. But Moses dropped a brick on the other end and hit it out of the ballpark.
Yul & Charlton were both SUPER HANDSOME 😍🙌🏽
They were men; not persons.

1956..no green screen...impressive. Watched this as a child.
I see plenty of green screens. Look at all the black lines around the people when the city is in the background.

Juda Ben-Hur is an incredible movie as well. The book is even better. It’s an amazing story.
(2:27) I love the subtext of the scales. It's such a great scene. Regardless if you are a atheist or religious, you should watch this film at least once in your life.

Man the scale of these movies are incredible ❤
One of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time. The cinematography, the sets, costumes and acting are all perfect.
is really nobody gonna talk about how freakin handsome Ramses is ????
I mean Yul Brynner was known for his looks. Funny thing is he shaved his head. He actually had a full head of hair
I mean he was just damn…some eye candy for sure. Movie star quality👑
You are talking about Yul Brenner! You need to watch “The King and I”.. He is magnificent in that film!
They both were!!
Yule Bryner was the iconic Rameses ,we shall all remember ❤

This movie came out 14 years before I was born. Wish I could have seen it in the theaters.
One of my favorite scenes! I loved seeing how they supposedly built the city. Moses' outfit is also beautiful to look at. ☺
Special effects the old-fashioned way. No CGI, but still looking so grand. They spent big bucks on this epic. And Heston and Brynner looking so macho. With Vincent Price and Leo Genn(?) as Sethi. British actor, of course....
"And I won't build a single Walmart or Starbucks in your city"........"Superb!!"
Looks like some great matte paintings as backgrounds in this. Great practical sets and props too. I mean, the scale is fantastic for what's really just a few guys talking.
There's a video on CZcams somewhere showing how they created the parting of the sea - the scale of the job was just astounding.
The detailed attention DeMille gave to their construction system was great too. It gives the audience a real feeling of the Egyptians' genius while also introducing us to Moses' competence, intelligence and decisive character.
I’ve seen this film dozens of times and always thought that the pylons that Moses was talking about were those vertical black objects in front of one of the stone lions of Pharaoh. Now I realize that those “pylons” are actually the device that Moses was using when the huge pylon was being raised.
4:18 the face of jealous rage 😂
Btw Yul Brynner is super hot
Great acting Yul did in this movie. His Rameses always reminds me of a keg of gunpowder ready to explode, but not quite.
All the performances are top-notch.
Sethi (about the city Moses build and his statue): Awesome, Moses!
So let it be written…So let it be done
The scale scene is the best part.

My all time favourite movie
Ten Commandments is one of magnificent biblical movie.
Yul Brynner … say no more
No more.
Great story, great actors, beautifully shot. They sure don't make them like they used to.😢
My parents and I used this film to give my nephews some much needed education around The Ten Commandments. They actually rather enjoyed the film in itself and watched it a couple of times! I love the bit when Moses parts the sea so that the Israelites can cross in safety. But there are many more wonderful things in the movie though i don't agree with the movie's presentation of. Nefertari. Look up Abu Simbel and you will see why.
Great burn “I decided what is yours”
There are many things to enjoy about this movie, but to me, the costumes are incomparable. Never mind that they aren't historically accurate, lol.
And then of course there was Anne Baxter's translucent dress ...
Moses tried to stand up for Ramesses. He didn't want to see him written out of the will so to speak. Wow.
Little known fact: This entire "city" was actually built in New Jersey, back in '38, BEFORE the War. Near Hoboken, about a stone's throw from West Caldwell. It's original name was lost to time, but it is now known as North Hell. You're welcome. 😮😅
Best remake of a movie ever! I watch it every year.
The dead make none 👏wow awesome well said .
Greatest movie of all time!!
Thank you so much.

Amazing movie of old prophet Moses.
I understand this movie is so historically innacurate, (white Egyptians) but you can't deny how epic the soundtrack is in this movie.
Don't hate movie is great
North Africans were not Sub-Saharan black Africans.
the mummy of ramses is available for anyone to see. he is not an african obviously. at most you cna claim he is sorta brown-ish
White ? North Africans including Egyptians originated from the Caucasus Mountains like the Bebers, Sub Saharan Africans race is Black. You think that only blonde haired blue eyed people are Caucasian. There are only 4 races on earth Asian, Caucasians, Sub Saharan Black and Aboriginies ....
And you claim to know history? I think not.
I love this scene 😍
Growing up whenever we went somewhere for Easter we were always home in time to see the 10 Commandments

I often wonder if this is the way the ancient Egyptians really built their monuments?
ummm....I think Cecil took a few liberties with reality
What’s interesting is how the scenes are shot in a way that you don’t see the drastic differences in height between these men. Yul Brynner was about 5’7” or 5’8”. Charlton Heston was 6’3 and Vincent Price was 6’4”.
Great Sethi
moses your name will be everywhere ..ramses - beat it !
"Wait till you see the Galleria of Sethi, it has an Orange Julius and a Glamour Shots!"
Now that's funny.
3:03 Moses looked pissed [at Rameses] as he walks off towards the screen lol!
You know he makes many points. For if you keep your slaves strong and healthy you get more things better results.
Agreed. I think Moses had Sethi when he showed the finished city. His other questions about building an army and the slaves' loyalty were just rhetorical. I think Sethi deep down knew Moses was innocent; he just wanted to see for himself.
Chuckie and Yul go toe to toe. Wowwww......
God's original plan for Moses was for him to become Pharaoh, reveal himself to Moses and then Moses will set the Hebrew slaves free since his word as Pharaoh is absolute. That is a tale worth telling other than the usual story of Moses.
What made Diety change his mind?
@@mariakelly90210 Moses ran away in the original Bible story. God had to adjust his plans due to humans being dumb.
Also, it is spelled Deity, not Diety.

You see that mindset is why you will never amount to anything great.
"And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath, if thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them."
-DEUTERONOMY 28:13
Pharaoh or not, Moses was going to free them regardless. Destiny and fate are funny that way.
get as grip folks.....it's not a documentary
*THE DEAD MAKE NONE!!*
so much for accusations
Results speak louder than anything else. Moses gave the slaves what they needed and treated them with mercy. And voila, there's the city.
A great visual sequence I wish someone would go in and clean up the inconsistences with the blue screen and its matt out lines, correct the lighting of the elements to bring them as one.
I'm looking intently on this scene, and I see Moses playing the crossword puzzle of the New York Times... Or is it the Theban Times?? Ramses checking afterwards to read the comic section LOL!🤣 It was a great scene tho.
This is happening in our generation in time the hour wherein
The testosterone that we needed
0:33 Narrator 2: Large monuments have been known to be constructed from many bricks, and hard labor. The heat was terrible, and the pressure was building inside each of the slaves.
the funny thing is moses actually does seem loyal to him here
He is. He also showed compassion for the slaves. See how that worked out.
Oh, he is, and very much so. That's all part of the tragedy of his fall before his eventual triumph.
Boy, Vincent Price was in so many different kinds of movies before he specialized in horror films!

The absolute rulers of ancient Egypt most assuredly did NOT suffer from low SELF-ESTEEM!!!
They certainly felt insecurity. All these monuments to how great they are.
And now they're dead and gone and mere exhibits we gawp at.

So what happened? Nothing much?
Despite the incredibly blatant cinematic "whitewashing" of a pre-Ptolemaic civilization of the African continent, I still manage to enjoy Heston and Brynner's portrayals of Moses and Ramses.
not whiwashing. it is you that has the black washing sickness. ramses mummy is not a black guy. he is just brown because of the preservative, which include bitumen
Study your history, pal. You'll find the royalty was made up of Greeks, etc.
Look, in any Hollywood production up to and including the present you're not seeing people and their attitudes and more's of past times. In the case of "The Ten Commandments" you're seeing 1956 people in a 2,000 BC world.
In any historic film done today you'll be seeing 2024 people in an (for example) 1875 world.
Any attempt to show people in the past as they were really like would be a turn-off for a modern audience.
@@chrispile3878 the greek part is from Alexander's generals. previously for millenia egypt ruled by more or less white people according to mummies, with some anomaly/ temporary conquest by black african but not permanent..
