- A montage of clips of our rescued ginger kitten, Koda, growing up with our family's Golden Retriever, Keelo. They were instant friends when we first brought Koda home (who was only about a month old at the time, and could fit perfectly in my hand!). 8 months have passed since then and they still continue to be as close as ever. Their bond is incredible and something I've never seen between a large dog and a tiny cat before!

it's interesting to see how the dogs plays with the kitten when it was really young, compared to a little older and bigger. he knew the kitten was a baby, and understood that he couldn't play rough with it. then later, after it got bigger, the dog knew it could play a little rougher with the kitten and it wouldn't get hurt.
it's amazing how smart and understanding dogs can be! :)
Dogs are some of the only animals that pay extreme attention to social queue's and gestures. Hence being mans best friend because of their understanding of us and others

Animals know their own strength, if they didn't most species would never survive because the parents would end up killing their vulnerable offspring. They realize their claws and teeth can hurt.

I loved how the dog just carefully watched over and kissed the kitten when it was tiny without playing rough, and then when it was older started really playing. So cute and smart!

Unfortunately, Keelo the dog died due to major digestive issues and suffered alot 😢 and the kitten Koda no longer lives in their home because they now have many cats and Koda is little wild so he tend to hurt other cats that's why they decided to leave him outside, he loves to catch mice, roam outside and was always kind of wild but he still gets a bed to sleep and food at night, he frequently visits them too. I am sure he would be broken down when he'll get to know that the friend with whom his childhood was made is now no more.

Oh my, what a gorgeous duo. Both animals love each other. The lab was very delicate with the cat as a very young kitten. Now that it's bigger you could see the lab played slightly rougher but appropriately knowing the size difference. Just so cute a video. Just love it soooo much.

It's play fighting :) Keelo is a sweet dog and has never bitten anyone or any animal before. Play fighting is the only time he bares his teeth! :)

Nothing better than a pup and it's kitten or should we say a kitten who has a pup. ;) We've always had a 2 dog, 3 cat ratio in the house and they're always fast friends. The dogs and cats always become friends faster than a cat with a cat lol. Thanks for the sweet video it's brought back so many memories!

You can't train cats and dogs to get along. They'll either keep their distance or eventually build some common ground. Chances are they will eventually form some sort of friendship.
Love this! If animals of two different species can live together in harmony and love one another--why can't humans be kinder to one another? (Cause animals don't do drugs,don't traffic one another, don't own weapons,and aren't arrogant enough to want to own and have everything!!).

We saw the exact same behaviors between our Golden Oscar and Felix. (Yes, those names do have a connection.) Oscar was four when we got Felix. At first he wasn't sure what to make of him! Felix acted just like Koda, climbing, crawling, batting. But the two hung out together so much that I know that Oscar imprinted dog behaviors onto Felix.
Felix is six now, Oscar is a young almost-10. They still play; last night, they were roughhousing again.

i was an only child with no cousins, just me mum dad who worked all the time- but my kitten , milky and my dog were my best friends and family- and i was never lonely. i think of them all the time.

This reminds me of my dog that passed away in 2009 or 2010 Besides him we had like 9 cats, and the dog protected the little kittens and played with them a lot.
I have 2 cats. 1 tuxedo cat and 1 ginger. I also have a dog. Plain white American Sheperd. I never bought a bed for my cats. I only bought 1 for my dog. The cats' bed is my dog's furry neck. Its so damn adorable that I have almost 200 photos of it.

The music is really nice… In the beginning the retriever acts like he doesn’t notice the kitten. The kitten is persistent. It’s cute when the retriever gives a little kitten attention by grooming it when it’s very young. As a kitten grows up we see them playing together there’s a lot of attention and communication between the two animals.
It’s almost like an older brother and younger sibling relationship in the animal world. These two were well matched, it’s nice to see that they have each other’s company.

Fun Fact: In the entirety of human history there is no record of an aggressive bite from a Golden Retriever.
Not true, unfortunately. I've had two, have seen them bite, and was once bitten myself. (By my own. He was stressed out and getting aggressive with another dog and I intervened. Chomp.) Goldens can be a force to reckon with when their dog is up - such as if their people are threatened. Another time one of ours pinned a sheriff's deputy in his car one night when we were camping and he came by to check up on us. Guy had to honk his horn till my dad got up and came out of the tent. Anyway, goldens are great dogs and very gentle and sweet. Except when that's not the best choice.
What Rob said is true. If you stress any animal out or they feel threatened they will bite and golden retrievers are not an exception. Animals should never be forced upon other animals to be their friends. It should be gradual. Also being around children who don’t know about animals can create a lot of stress on any dog and if they’re threatened they will snap at a person or a child if they haven’t been conditioned in the proper manner.
Golden retrievers are naturally non-aggressive; the aggressive genes have largely been bred out of them. This is what makes them good "family" dogs, their penchant for easily tolerating annoying children and other pets without showing aggression. Golden retrievers don't make good guard dogs because they instinctively trust humans (even strangers), and they typically view humans and other animals as "friendly" unless they show aggression first. However, any breed of dog can be aggressive. If the animal is abused, trained to be aggressive, or senses that someone else or another animal is showing aggression, a golden retriever can be aggressive in return. And rare as it is, because golden retrievers are rather large and powerful dogs, they can cause injury if they bite.
