Broad Gauge Monsters in Polish Braniewo, 14.11.2020

  • A couple of videos I shot on a day trip to Braniewo, near the border with Kaliningrad Oblast. A place very popular among the Polish railfans, because it's the only place in poland where Russian broad gauge locomotives can be seen (without going abroad). The railway line leads all the way to Chruściel (though many trains terminate on the border station in Braniewo) and back in the day, it used to lead all the way to Bogaczewo and further. I didn't manage to catch the Chruściel train, however I did see a couple of interesting trains.
We're beginning in early morning, near the village of Zgoda, near the very border with Russia. From the curve, slowly, a modernized Fantomas appears - 2TE116UR 001 - with a mixed manifest to Braniewo. The locomotive is equipped with a new engine and an overall more modern design compared to the original. From what I know, it's the only locomotive of this class.
The next shot is the locomotive changing the direction and attaching to another, this time northbound, train. Besides the Fantomas, we can see a couple of other locomotives - a PKP Cargo SM48 (one of the last ones in service), an ST44, Class 66, 401Da, 409Da and the msot interesting one - an LDH45 in an old livery (propably as a monument.
The next part is for fans of the audio experiences - an idling TEM2 engine and a SM42 shunting with a couple of wagons from the reloading station (when the load needs to be switched from broad gauge to standard gauge).
The next video (propably my favorite one) is the entrance of 2M62-1172 to Poland near Zgoda. The locomotive still didn't get the overhaul to M62U (bogeys from Ludmilla + a refurbished cab) and, from what I know, it hasn't appeared in Braniewo for a long time, so I guess I was lucky. The locomotive stopped right by me and then slowly proceeded to start again, hauling a very heavy coal train. Beautiful part for enginesound enjoyers :).
The next short shot is the entrance of the same 2M62 to Braniewo and then the Fantomas leaving with a northbound train back to Russia. Next shot is the northbound Fantomas on a railway crossing near the Russian border.
Next vid is an SM42 shunting with a train with containers around the Braniewo station on high rpm.
The last shot is the 2M62 with a northbound to Russia - the locomotive goes full power and the sound can be heard from a kilometer away. The loco reaches the schedule speed right by me and lowers the rpm. The engine hasn't got a silencer mounted so each shot from the cylinders can be heard clearly.
    Thanks for reading through :).

W węglarkach głównie węgiel - do przeładowni i dostawców w okolicy.
