    Took my SFAR 16" to the range today for the first time. I only shot 60 rounds as that was the only ammo I had with me, but it was mixed PMC 7.62x51 and some old .308 hunting ammo I had laying around. Anyhow, it functioned flawlessly, with no malfunctions with both types of ammunition. Gas setting was left on 3 and no suppressor. I threw a 3.5x Trijicon on it and it was pretty much dead on target out of the box. A few clicks to the right and it was good to go! Nice rifle, I think it is a keeper!

    My bet? Rogue is under gassed. I had a 308 that drove me crazy with every type of failure you can imagine. I started troubleshooting and the more failures I had the more pissed off and determined I got. Spent probably $1000 on changing parts and buying ammo. So it went: Change a part and try 10 types of ammo, Change another part and try 10 types/grades/weights ammo - Over and Over and Over - Range Trip after Range Trip. Then got Really mad and put the damn thing in the closet for a month. Long story short - One day it just came to me…….Gas Port Too Small!! Returned to the shop where I bought the barrel and called the manufacturer. Sure As Shit! Gas port was .05” too small from their spec. They admitted some barrels got through QC like that and offered to pay the $35 the gun smith quoted to open it up. He drilled that sucker .08” larger and I put a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block on. Now runs like a top. Done. (Happy Face Here)

    I feel your frustration since I have experienced the same with other ARs with different calibers. I've been thinking of buying the SFAR for a while and I have been watching quite a few reviews with a mixed bag of pros and cons. Some rave about the SFAR while others have experienced a lot of problems with double feeding and gas regulation where they had to leave it at three in spite of shooting quite a few rounds where setting 2 should be the ideal for less recoil. Looks like your SFAR is one of the good ones. Really enjoyed your video and appreciate your comments.

    Great video. I hope POF will send you a new one. I had the same problems with a RUGER SFAR 308 and sent it to the RUGER factory three times. On the third time RUGER sent me a new gun. Now everything is running 100% fine with my RUGER SFAR. Note: I can not get the tight groups with the RUGER that I got with my ROCKRIVER AR10 308. The SFAR shoots good Hornady ammunition within two minute groups while the ROCKRIVER 308 shot groups under an inch all day. Now the RUGER is very lightweight and the ROCKRIVER was a beast to carry around hunting elk. Kent / Montana

    Thanks for sharing. Looks like you have a good running SFAR. You're lucky! My buddy bought one and it's had the same issues as your Rogue. Feeding and extraction issues. But, I've heard quite a few others have experienced this, and have sent theirs in to get fixed with no issues afterwards. Lucky you don't have to.
    I don't have the POF Rogue, but I do have the POF Revolution. Boy... let me tell you how upset I was... In my experience, I've sent my gun in twice as well. It had extraction and feeding issues. I've noticed that the 20 round PMAG it came with always has a feeding issue. So I no longer use it. The 10 and 25 round mags seem to work much better with my Revolution. So far no issues with them. As of now, my gun no longer has any issues (knock on wood). The last issue I had with it was the safety. I took on an elk hunt last year, and after every shot, the safety turned back on. So I had to turn the safety off after every shot. I've tried replicating the issue but it no longer does it. Since then, I've been comparing my Revolution to my buddy's SFAR, and I like my revolution just a little better. But.... for the price???? I would have gone with the SFAR if it would have came out before I purchased my POF.
    Hope your Rogue fixes itself. I can understand your frustration as I expected a lot more out of the "Bentley" as well.

Long story short, I've been looking at the POF because of how light they are, but I hadn't bought one and just window shopped for about a year. Ruger comes out with the SFAR and it's been nothing but good news from them and for half, sometimes a third the price of the POF. Seems like I dodged a bullet with spending the money on a POF. Your brass ejection seems to be pretty sluggish. I would be checking the ejector, ejector spring, extractor, extractor spring, and extractor geometry. If you have adjustable gas, I’d start by turning it down until your bolt won’t lock to the rear, then adjusting it up until it will, give it a small amount more gas from there.

    • @PubliusRutiliusLupus
      @PubliusRutiliusLupus Před 28 dny +1

      When my radial delay AR-9 had stovepipes and uneven ejection patterns, I did exactly that. I replaced the ejector and extractor springs. I noticed that the extractor spring had been pushed down to about 3/4 normal size! Since I did that, it's been 100% reliable.

  • @frankensteincreations4740

    I think the POF is more of a wide spread issue… Mainly in design… SFAR is a brand new highly sought after firearm that was/is being pumped out in record time… Most of what I’ve seen people having problems with the Ruger turns out to be ammo issue, mag issue or gas valve not on proper setting… Best part is, Ruger is well known for standing behind their product… Haven't even shot mine yet. Hopefully it’s ok… nice video… 👍

    A "stovepipe" 7:17 on an AR is because the bolt is moving too fast before the brass clears, it slams shut on the spent brass before ejection. Try slowing the bolt carrier down by adding some heavier Tungsten buffer weights (about $28 off Amazon last I found) one at a time until it behaves. The buffer is held together by a single roll pin, just make sure and use a "ROLL PIN punch" so you don't _mutilate_ it! That, or use a better ejector spring (can literally even "stretch" the ejector spring out a bit to get more tension reliably) or even ADD a Viton rubber doughnut (Midway for like $3, they're Orange colored usually). Could also simply be a shit ejector claw. I mean, it is a "Point Of Failure" rifle...

    I have a POF rogue that had FTF/FTE, double feeds. Mine was very ammo specific it was annoying. Only liked expensive heavy ammo. Overall same issue with all other ammo. So i open the gas port - still have the original gas block. (0.078 ish, it should be opened up to 0.081 but it was the only drill bit i have left)
    Now it kicks a little more but it runs much better. Still have some issues with steel case (thus 0.081) and when its smoking hot and 100+ outside. That day all mine and my dads guns had issues with spent cases sticking in the barrel.

    • @roundearthshill248
      @roundearthshill248 Před 2 měsíci

      What is it about steel case ammo that gives some guns trouble? I bought a 20" SFAR from my brother and it came with 100 rounds of Hornady critical defense steel case ammo. The gun had only had a few rounds put through it when my brother sold it to me because he needed emergency cash quick. When I went out to shoot it the first time I had two failure to feed problems in a 20rd magazine. Then I got some Winchester FMJ and the thing ran like a top. Was able to turn the gas down to setting 2 after a few mags and it's still great. I should probably try those Hornady steel case rounds again just to see if it'll still jam with them.
      But yeah I love my SFAR. Kinda wish I had a 16" but this 20" in my best shooting, most accurate AR I own. I also have a 14.5" JAKL and I'm way more accurate with the SFAR. JAKL is a blast though, love it.

    I've got around 650 rounds through my sfar. After swapping the gas block and clearancing the inside of the hand gaurd, it's been reliable and sub moa. Watching the ejection on the POF, it's inconsistent. It went from lazily flopping the brass out to flinging it then back to flopping. Extractor? extractor spring? ejector binding? Hows the recoil cycle feel? Maybe something in the buffer and carrier is binding?

      I wanted to add, I have done the same mods to both the SFAR and the Rogue - Tubbs flat wire 308 spring and H2 buffer. These mods helped both guns run very reliably. • @RARufus
    @RARufus Před 9 měsíci

    As an owner of both, the POF Rogue does not come with an adjustable gas block, so that appears to be added as an extra. It is a little overgassed from the factory, but that helps it run a wide variety of ammo types. It looks like the POF is a little undergassed, causing the FTE. If the gas block is dialed in for one ammo type, another type of ammo may have issues. It's also subject to temperature variations if the gas is dialed into one temperature and ammo. The Rogue 16 inch is a very good lightweight rifle if it's not messed with from the factory. I would say the SFAR is better because it's cheaper and has an adjustable gas block. The SFAR is a little heavier, so that's also a tradeoff. I do like that the SFAR has more barrel options as well.

    I recently purchased an SFAR. I've noticed shooting 7.62 compared to the .308, that it has a lot less pressure and the ejection pattern is at 5:30. .308 at the same setting which I have left on 3 will eject at 2:30 and 3. With my experience with the SFAR, id say 7.62 would be good for plinking, but if you want to hunt with it and want reliability, use .308. The extractor is also not very strong, thinking of putting an O ring under it Had to knock out a casing and it wasn't even in there that tight. Only happened once. My sample shoots MOA for me. As for the POF, I'm a little disappointed that your sample is falling short of the SFAR, considering it costs twice as much.

    Lightweight but how is the recoil affecting the follow-up shot? Even with that big brake there is still significant muzzle rise. Many reviews on the SFAR and leaking gas blocks, accuracy issues and feeding issues are common. Sure Ruger has great customer service but wouldn't it be better if Ruger had a better assembly process and better QC program to catch these issues before they hit the market? For the price it's an option but its ammo sensitive, mag sensitive and Ruger does not provide a 1 MOA guarantee.

      Adding more barrel adds length and weight, and after I did some investigation, I decided 16" was ideal for all my .308 rifles. For something specialized for long range use, it would be natural to want to squeeze as much accuracy and distance as possible from a rifle, but for normal hunting, defense, or SHTF purposes, 16" is rather an ideal length.

    This is the theme with POF after Frank passed away...prior to that the Revolution and 308 guns were known for running anything you could find...I have a Revolution 308 piston 14.5 P&W I had to RMA with my YHM Resonator R2 due to poor hest treating and the headspace being out of spec causing every failure imaginable...
    They replaced the barrel and bolt under warranty and I will say the gun ran much better unsuppressed and they say they added a custom bleed off port to make it run with my suppressor...the gun was still so overgassed with the can on I couldn't get thru more than 2-5 shots without a feeding issue or failure...
    POF customer service sucks....it takes 2-3 emails to get a halfway straight answer and half the time they just flat out ignore you
    I purchased the springco orange extra power spring with a kyntec hydraulic buffer...this certainly helped and ejection was consistent without the can running PMC X-tac 147gr and Norma Tactical 147gr 2 plinking rounds that are decently affordable...(If you try any cheap ammo or remanufactured or used brass it'll either get jammed in the chamber or it'll just rip the rim right off the casing. It only runs good with brand new and expensive ammo like Gorilla, Hornady, or Federal GMM)
    with the hydraulic buffer I still can't get thru a full mag suppressed without a failure and the bolt never locks back on an empty mag
    Now moving to the heavybuffers.com XH 8.5oz buffer with it'd own spring to test that out....I wish I'd have just purchased a LWRC REPR like I'd originally planned...for the hundreds I've spent trying to get this POS POF to run I'd have had a brand new piston 308 that ran right from the jump without RMA or having to test so many different types of ammo..,.smdh

      It was reliable last month with PMC X-tac 147gr 308 and Norma Tactical 147gr 308, it also did great with Gorilla 168gr SMK last week.
      But this week, pm gets stuck in the damn chamber every other round and the Gorilla won't even feed and I mean stuck on the feed ramp every single time...
      I was able to solve most of the cycling issues with just swapping out the OEM POF buffer with the 8.5oz buffer, recoil is much softer and ejection is beautiful and consistent... When the next round doesn't get stuck on the feed ramp that is or it has a failure to eject..
      Last time I was able to get a response from POF they said it's the ammo makers fault...
      I'm gonna sell this fucking pain in the ass and get an LWRC REPR MKII 308...i haven't heard of any major issues with that platform and it's chambered to run both 7.62x51 NATO and 308 Winchester

And the reason is due to the metals they use are harder than others so brass cased ammo will not break it in due to the softness of brass but steel case will loosen up the tight chamber tolerences...once that is accomplished all ammo should function as expected.

One channel I watched, which you probably saw too, said Ruger told him to use setting 3 for 7.62x51 ammo and setting 2 for .308 ammo. I have been using Federal American Eagle .308 and it seems to need setting 3 as well. Watched someone else shoot it and it was throwing brass almost straight back showing it was under gassed. It then started double feeding after about 25 rounds. With the hunting ammo, which seems to be hotter than the American Eagle, it functions well on setting 2.
      As for mods, I have put a PSA 3.5lb match trigger, Radian Raptor ambi-charging handle, Leupold 4.5x-14x VX3 scope and a Vickers sling. Oh, and I ditched the muzzle brake and put on an A2 style flash hider.

    If you know the SFAR your not supposed to run it suppressed and keep it on Gas setting 3, and put 200+ rounds through it before you can adjust to 2 and put a suppressor on it. So it's user error

    Why shoot the bobcats?

    • @reviveoutdoors4him
      @reviveoutdoors4him  Před rokem +1

      With any predator, our goal is to help maintain a healthy balance of predator vs prey. We don’t always remove bobcats unless the predator population outweighs the prey significantly.
      One 100 acre parcel we help manage had an overpopulation of predators. In 2 months, we removed 30+ coyotes and 3 bobcats. Since then, we have seen the fawn drop (deer) and poult hatch (turkey) improve significantly over the last 3 years.
      It’s always a calculated decision based off each properties needs.

    Sadly it looks like POF went downhill after Frank passed away. I believe Rogue prob needs some design/manufacturing improvement, but 2020 happened.
    I would suggest staying with the Revolution if you are getting 308 from POF. Especially it seems now that SFAR pretty much killed Rogue.
    Their Renegade+ is also a feature-rich and accurate 5.56 platform.

    • @JohnZ556
      @JohnZ556 Před rokem +2

      BTW, your Rogue looked to be super overpassed. Forgive me if I missed it, but you gotta find a way to tune down the gas or slow the carrier speed down. I would try a heavy(H4?) buffer and maybe contact POF to warranty it.

    I tried 5 308 ARs with silencers and none functioned.
    After, I asked GAP and they said don't bother trying.
    I asked POF and they said theirs won't work silenced.
    I bought an SFAR based on reviews.
    Five rounds fired, broke the: lower receiver, buffer tube, stock, charging handle, and my scope. Recoil was intense. The mid length gas system is unsafe in a 16" 308 AR and cannot work with a silencer.
    For the geniuses that will assume the setting of the gas block matters when the issue is how close it is to the chamber, I used setting 1, the most restrictive. I'm glad I didn't use setting 3, for my own safety.

    You could not find a good setting with 9 adjustments, it's gotta have a spring/buffer wrong weight or size.
