You know what's worse than the fact that they lied and tried to pin the whole thing on the dead pilots was the fact that they denied relatives of the dead passengers and crew access to the remains and proceeded to beat on them for it too? This is absolutely unacceptable.
Just leaving this comment for those who are going to be racists, dont forget about iran air flight 655
What do you expect? It’s Iran!
@@nenblom no you're not getting it, iran air flight 655 was an iranian commerical passenger jet shot down by the US Navy
Islam is a religion of peace and prosperity
Though I’m not a fan of religion, this has nothing to do with that and everything to do with an authoritarian regime, the threat of war and human error.
The fact that the aircraft was constantly transmitting its identification on its transponder and the defense system didn’t recognize it just makes this even more dangerous for any aircraft flying in and out of Iran.
this would only make sense if the iranians are telling the truth, i guess some don't actually think it was intentional, like history tells us
yeah it does🤣
No it doesnt. This was while the Iranian military was on high alert due to the assasination of Sulimani by American reaper drones which was followed by an Iranian retaliation missile attack and in turn the Iranians expected another American attack which was why they were a little ichy on the trigger finger.
Accident? Maybe not.
Cf. Russian shootdown over ukraine.

This accident hits me close to my heart. My mom was meant to be on that flight, had it not been for my sister intervening. She was just about to book this flight as a returnflight back home (while still bein home in Sweden), when my sister reacted to the time it would take with transfer (over 24h travelling time). In the end, my sister found a flight for her on the 9th instead.
I just can't.... believe the luck. But when I first woke up the morning of the 8th, not being sure exactly when her flight would start due to time differences (datewise), my heart just stopped. In shear panic I started to call my aunt, my sister, my mom, our ministry of foreign affairs, but no one picked up. At the same time I tried to find the passangerlists online with no success. At last my sister called me up and told me mom was alright, that her flight was on the next day!
Oh the relief! The grief of those who perished! I cried so hard for them, for everybody losing someone. I still get sick in my stomach watching videos about this accident. It was just pure luck for us, what if mom had booked the tickets without us being in the room with her? She would not be here now, and my world would've been ruined forever.
I cry everytime I look at the pictures of those gone. It could've been my mom. But this time it was someone else's mom, dad, brother, sister, child. 💔 Such a horrible way to go...

That this tragedy happened is just unbelievable to me. Ultimately, the man who decided to ignore protocol and just fire on the plane, twice holds most of the blame. Just horrible. RIP to the 176 souls lost. Thank you for an excellent presentation of this avoidable tragedy.
...consider that the plane had just shown up on their radar as it originated from their own airport - and they still shot it down... total dipthongs, imagine what would happen in a conflict with these people, hundred(s) of drone fake targets would be sent and the skies over Tehran - would have contrails everywhere.... praise allah... right
I think that he wanted to be "Him".
How certain are we that that protocol was actually broken, that no "fire" command actually came from "above"? It surely is quite convenient to blame the missile operator and not the leadership, don't you think?
And we are told it is the Americans who have a gung-ho approach. Seems everyone is just plain trigger-happy!
well plausible deniability, Did the missile operator get reprimanded..like at all..even if he did lie and say he did not get in touch with command to take the blame being ordered to say that from above when your talking about a whole government that guy could be in a all expense lifetime luxury resort for the rest of his life for his "taking the blame"
It infuriates me that the Iranians said it was an engine fire at first, then admitted to shooting it down, just admit it from the beginning.
First casualty of war is the truth.
What’s also infuriating is the money the US has given Iran. Just horrifying. RIP to the innocents killed here.
Thats not the standard operating procedure of these countries. Standard procedure always is instantly denying everything and blaming everyone else with the most ridiculous reasonings. Its always the same.
Governments lie. All the time. It is their standard operating procedure. What's astounding to me is that people actually believe the government because their party is in charge thinking that their party would never lie to them lol.. they are the same all over the world
Hey, to their damn credit they did admit it. Unlike russia in MH17 case. I have a mixed feelings about video being made about this which was a deadly but a certain mistake, vs MH17 which was a deliberate act.

Civilians have very little power when it comes to these type of incidents. What needs to happen - and in America what we would do is this:
The families of the deceased pool the insurance money together, then hire the the drug cartel to avenge the death of their family members by assassinating the military and political leaders responsible.
This sends a message to those from the grassroots level that if you hurt otherwise decent, law abiding civilians - those law abiding decent citizens will rebel against the lawful authorities.

I remember when the US Navy accidentally mistook an Iranian commercial airliner and shot it down. At first I thought this video was about that event (Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988), but when I saw the CY 2020, I realized my error.
There was a video made on that incident already. It was some kind of issue where the plane was not squawking on the correct frequency for civilian aircraft in the area? The US Navy tried to contact the flight and warm them multiple times to identify themselves before any action was taken. In this story, the Iranians made little to no effort to identify the radar contact, just trigger happy.
@@DarkFilmDirectorwell US territory was not really threatened. Big difference
@@elefantdan That makes no difference at all whether the US owned that sea or not. Operation Praying Mantis brought US navy there due to Iran and Iraq indiscriminately mining the sea and bombing civilian oil and merchant ships. The US naval presence was requested by the international community to stop the Iran-Iraq conflict from becoming a broad, widescale war. No one should have to explain the history to you. It makes no difference if US flags were flying on a shoreline or not. They were there to protect tanker and merchant vessels from being attacked by Iranian or Iraqi aircraft. The USS Vincennes shot down the aircraft for it not being on the right frequency and not responding to multiple contact requests for unknown reasons.
@@DarkFilmDirector well captain Rogers was trigger happy. And oil is above civilian lives always... I know history. Military personnel have a choice civilians not so much. Tell me that there would be no difference if this was taken place in San Diego bay.
@@elefantdan There aren't any facts that suggest Capt Rogers was needlessly reckless. The ship was given crap intel that they were being engaged by two Iranian F-14s only shortly after being engaged with Iranian gunboats. He had just fought a skirmish and he was guarding another vessel. It will never be known why the flight crew never squawked the right frequency after months of knowing that there was an active military conflict in the area and had prior warning.
Love your videos!
I have never been able to find out a definitive reason why the plane’s transponder squawk was ignored.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, best to pretend we're idiots........!!!!
That was one of my questions. Why were they allowed to fly during hostilities if no one had any IFF systems?
The Tor missile system doesn't have any capability to receive aircraft transponder idents. It can only recognise an IFF transponder which the civilian aircraft didn't have. Tor is a relatively simple tracking missile that seeks a target designated by the fire control system operator.
was it even on /? there's an interesting page on forbes going thru all the scenarios of the swawk question ( utube wouldnt let me post the link
@@ElectricPics That brings up my other concern. How they could emplace a missile battery so horribly misaligned. Someone apparently skipped the azimuth portion of training. 😬
One of the diplomatic tangles in all this was that the majority of passengers on the flight were travelling to Canada. There were actually 57 Canadians on board, 52 of whom had dual Iranian-Canadian citizenship, plus a ton of students were on board headed to Canadian universities. The mullahs do not have a particularly positive view of Canada, to put it mildly, although the Iranian people don't seem to share that opinion.
This is also why nearly all of the legal wrangling has been in front of Canadian judges.
Iran does not recognise dual citizenship. Anyone with Iranian dual citizenship is regarded by the regime as an Iranian, and the other nationality is not recognised. That's why Iran does not allow consular access to prisoners of dual citizenship by the officials of the second country.
Another one- the US did the assassination.

You are so weak lol
Some trigger happy lunatic got excited... If they just had taken a look, they would've seen that it was a commercial airplane. Just what was it that they were smoking
The absolute incompetence of Iran's defense communication. Geez.
The system would have worked if the missile operator had not disobeyed orders and fired without authorisation. The communication isn't the main issue here, it's a missile operator being trigger happy.
@@timonsolus .... or fearing what would happen to him if he did nothing when something airborne was seeming to head in a dangerous direction.
He does take part of the blame, and his superiors will scapegoat him, and he may well have not cared and was trigger happy.

Its diifcult to understand that when there was flight tracking error in the defence radar resulting in the actual postion being quite different from the apparent position ,how did the missiles land on an object which thereby was flying at a completely different position. This indicates that such systems are useless when there could be multiple planes both hostile & friendly jostling over a same area
This is exactly what I was thinking
just because it showed wrong at one operators computer doesn't mean the entire tracking system failed to locate it, it very well would work with multiple plans all of them in this case would just show a 107º difference between shown and actual heading the defense system would still track whichever plane was targeted.
You know there was at least one passenger on that flight who sat down and thought, this day can't possibly get any worse

I don't pretend to know what the SAM system capabilities are in this case but I was a radar operator when I was in the USN in the late 80s (and yes that was when the USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner) and our detection equipment not only included the air search radar but also IFF transpoder that could detect Mode 3 and C which is what commercial airliner transponders use to announce their altitude and specific comercial airliner code. If this SAM system had the ability to read Mode 3 and C the operators would have been able to see plainly that this was an airliner. Suffice to say the operator(s) of this particular SAM system were probably executed.
could this suggest that there is a high probability that this accident was not a mistake?
@timbalin it was intentional, yep.
@@timbalin I don't think that it was not a mistake. The operators and more importantly the commanding officer was known as an aggressive leader....nicknamed "shooter". Two questions:
Was Ukraine compensated after they were wrongfully shot down by those missiles?
Were there any passengers that missed out or cancelled their flight before realizing they would have also been doomed if they did board?
They refused to.
