Hi - hope you like this experiment in fishing storytelling. You asked for longer episodes, so here it is, 28 mins! Fishing Tales is very popular on social media, especially Facebook and I know that you have enjoyed it here on this channel. I've chosen CZcams to host the deluxe version of the first podcast so please subscribe if you like it!
Looking forward to this one and to binge watching all your other videos. I remember meeting you in the Glasgow angling centre about 5-6 years ago and you politely allowed me and my daughter to have a picture taken with you (which I've still got) so thanks for that. You where a inspiration to me as a young boy growing up. I learned a lot from you and Mick over the years about fishing and I still haven't lost the passion I had when I was a boy.
Legend 🎣

Thanks for such lovely comments. Sorry, only just spotted your comment today. I'm editing ep 2 right now, should be out tonight!
Brilliant loved it! Listening from home while making rigs during the corona virus pandemic, hope everyone is staying safe and staying home to protect the NHS and hopefully we will all be back on the bank soon. Great podcast thanks Matt and Mick 👍🏼
Loved it. Perfect mix of stories and visuals. More please 👍
Thanks Mike. Should be ready in 3 weeks...

Good man. Should finish the next one by tomorrow.

Thanks Woody. Glad you could see it early. Good response to it so far.
Best podcast yet👍👍
Wow! That's quite a compliment. I really appreciate it. Thankyou.
I love the picture of the Duke holding that pike. Wow.😀
Thanks Simon! A couple of roach pics snuck in where they shouldn't! Hope you enjoyed the stories...more to come. I'm recording the next one for release in late Feb.
Brilliant idea and hope the podcasts keep coming!
Thanks Matthew! I really like the format because it allows me flexibility in how I present the stories. The feedback is really good so far - I'll be recording a new one with the Duke in about 10 days...
Great stuff. Looking forward to it 👍
That's what I do with your ghost story, listen to it on the bus, on the allotment and every night at bed time I love your voice. I'd have crucian, tench and sturgeon in my lake. Love you Mr H ❤️ as always xxxx
I was right with you until you said sturgeon.. glad you liked it!
@@MattHayesfish I love sturgeon but for you I'll replace with peacock bass and dace xxx
@@angeldust1604666 Alright, that sounds good!
Or a chocolate covered you xxx
@@angeldust1604666 I honestly don't know what to say to that...I'm lost for words.
Great idea Matt, will look forward to the next one!
I'm already working on it. The main feature of the next one is an interview with the duke and some outdoor fishing audio. Lots of plans!
I absolutely love this podcast idea. I've just got back from a day session on a Warwickshire river . The only pike of the whole day coming in at just under 10lb and just listened to this while scoffing mushy peas and chips.
That's wonderful to hear. I must admit it is a bit of a gamble but its a hit! Thankyou!
Love the sound of that dream lake Matt. Think I would only add some rudd and perfection.
Not a bad shout David. I will do something on rudd in a future podcast.
Very enjoyable and a great concept tight lines Matt and Mick.
Thanks Paul 💪🎣
Thanks Paul - it’s a good format for the future. More to come!
absolutely wonderful this is what fishing is about enjoyment. cant wait for the next podcast and chapter.
Thanks Jim. I am working on the next one now.
I am absolutely delighted to have discovered this channel. I've followed you and the Duke on tv since the old discovery channel days. Was gutted when they stopped financing your shows. I'm so chuffed!!!!!
Thanks Anthony. Sorry I did not see your comment sooner - I was editing last week..
Matt Hayes totally ok. Just subbed to your tv app. Spent all weekend watching record breaking fish and the great rod race. Please keep the videos and podcasts coming .
I listen to your podcast in my workshop, whilst whipping rods, matron.
Love it Matt, I drive a Tesco van over the water in northern Ireland and I had 40 minutes to kill between drops. I put this on and loved every minute of it! Love listening to podcasts so this will be a favourite.
Thanks Mark. I've posted the link to Spotify in the comments (for the audio version) and I've applied for itunes and Google.
Absolutely brilliant!!! Loved this Matt. I like the sound of your lake, I would have to add Barbel to that list for my dream pond...looking forward to the next one and the next fishing videos
Wow that’s how podcasts should be. Such a breath of fresh air Matt really looking forward to the next one. 🎣🎣
Graham Cockings Thanks Graham! More coming. Stay tuned.
Great stuff, I did listen first, then looked up the deluxe 👍
Just subbed Matt..I’ve watched you fishing for many year’s. Whenever I see one of your old episodes it takes me back to my childhood with my dad fishing for chub on the river or gravel pits for pike. You are truly a lovely bloke looking forward to listerning to more podcasts mate.
More on the way. I have completed the second one in audio format. Now I need to add the visuals...
This is Wright up my alley I can listen while I'm making pike lures out in the shed. Cheers
Thanks David. That sounds perfect👌
Good stuff matt 👍
Cheers Daniel! Glad you like it. If its a hit I'll make more. The audio version is available here www.buzzsprout.com/845479/2615842-fishing-tales-the-podcast-with-matt-hayes
Well, this is where the old school gets a new lease of life. Pod cast with a few visuals, and all other images flow from our imagination. Such a refreshing change from seeing endless fish being banked from this angling celeb, or that. (Of course I love to follow a few individuals through their careers).
As for e dream lake. Well, being a regular on commercials, I've got tired of F1's and carp up to low doubles all day. So, for a change, I'd be looking at roach, rudd, tommy ruffe, gudgoen, a few chub, and some specimen bream. Oh and of course a reasonable head of crucians.
All the best Matt. Glad to see you're still keenly in the picture.
Cheers Graham. Yes, it is old school and it’s part of an evolving project where I combine narration with stills and video to create stories that are a little bit different to a straight tv type show. My plan is to remake out of town.
Brilliant idea Mr Hayes perfect for listening to in the workshop 👏
So glad that you like it. if you are just listening, check the spotify link. It will be on itunes soon.
This is Excellent 👏
Thanks Phil. I've got more coming - pls subscribe if you haven't already! Tight Lines!
Love it mate mate, inspiration!!!! Big time!!! It's you that inspired me into fishing Matt, for that eye thank you mate,as have struggled with addiction since leaving the forces, and fishing has literary saved my life matt, thank you greame king!!
You are welcome. So glad you like it 🍺
Very enjoyable, I really like the way you tell tales of days gone by without getting all misty eyed for how things were. I always liked that about you as an angler, you held onto traditional methods if they were still effective but embraced modern developments without falling head over heels for the newest trends.
Anyway, hope you're well and have plenty of adventures to look forward to this coming year.
All the best
Its very kind of you to say so. I have never been too much swayed by gimmicks but the truth is its about being yourself...
This is absolutely brilliant. In my dream lake it would be an old estate lake containing big tench, big cruicans and Rudd. For the winter specimen perch. For me I can’t get my head around chub and barbel in still water so would have to have a good bit of dream river.
Great Idea Matt, tapped into something I think. Enjoyed it!
Thanks Jerad - appreciate it 💪🎣
It was a great podcast Matt!
Thanks Janos - I think that it will be big. stick around and watch some more in coming weeks!
Really hope the support for this high, would love this to be an ongoing thing.
I mean it to be. I've arranged to do some fishing days out for the next few with the Duke and a couple of others. It will be like fishing radio! Thanks for watching - I'll publish future eps here too. If you want the audio version its here www.buzzsprout.com/845479/2615842-fishing-tales-the-podcast-with-matt-hayes
@@MattHayesfish Sounds like perfect bankside listening material for these cold winter sessions. Great stuff.
Brilliant Matt 👍 very well put together I could almost imagine i was there myself
High praise indeed! I've got big plans for this podcast, just need to get the subscriptions up and crack on...
Can't wait
@@baitrunner5193 nor me. I keep thinking of new people to interview and feature ideas!
I can say i will watch every episode of this, Matt, you are an inspiration to us lazy gits to get back on the bank, cheers.
Then it has been worth it 💪🎣
You have really made me want to head back to an old estate lake in Upminster i used to fish as a kid in the early 90s called parklands. We used to use 7lb straight through mono line or what ever we could afford with a float and luncheon meat as hook bait fished close to the lilly pads, island or close under the willows hanging over the lake. Being wild carp they were never big but looking back now at the time they were massive and the fights were legendary. I visited a few years back and the old beautiful lake has not changed at all apart from many anglers now using bite alarms.
Your podcast has definitely made me want to revisit as i found out the old dark wildies are still in there however i think i maybe one of those anglers with the bite alarms lol. Thank you for bringing back my memories 👍👍
You are welcome a David. I caught wild carp in an old monastery moat back in the seventies. Sadly no more 😢 pls Subscribe if you haven’t already
@@MattHayesfish definitely subscribed matey been watching you and the duke for years now. Its a shame there aren't more venues with wild carp in i think these would definitely be in my lake. What would be in the dukes lake i wonder?
I think that the Duke would choose pike, perch, zander, eels, roach, Rudd, tench
@@MattHayesfish definitely eels lol. Personally not a big fan even though my father used to eat them alot 😜😜.
Took my boy fishing during the summer for the first time i can only take him when its warm due to his disabilities lucky bugger caught a 20lb common on his 1st go lol i think he would have king carp in his lake 😁😁
I've added some chapter markers to the description above.
Good pods. Listening setting me rods up for a windy weekend in north. Just bought a little iboat 160 for summer with 18v motor. Any tips Matt.
Good man! Listening in the bivvy? Very cool. It’s what I had in mind when I came up with this.
Hi Matt, I couldn't find this in my podcast app. Is there an RSS link?
There is if you click on the audio version. I have applied for Spotify and itunes but they have not been approved yet. If you click the audio version link and then RSS feed, it should ask you to choose the app you use.
@@MattHayesfish sounds good Matt thank you.

Wish you would do more TV shows for Freeview.Thank you for the podcast.
We are talking about it at the moment but it takes ages to work these things through and finance is always the critical point.
@@MattHayesfish Thank you for replying hopefully it happens.Always loved your shows,TV production companies and channels would be mad not too.

@@MattHayesfish Thanks mate and good luck.
Loved the podcast matt. Can't wait for more. Very relaxing. Love good old yarns. Btw. Any idea how big that blithfield pike was that brushed your fly
Well over 40. 😢
@@MattHayesfish the near misses always stay in our heads longer than most catches. Had a few myself 😞 can't catch em all I suppose
@@bencarvosso3691 I have said the same thing a few times, Ben.
Have you been back to Ireland at all since the rod race. Had one of my first dates with my now wife 12 years ago in Woodford were you and Mick had all the tench and carp. We went for a night and stayed for 5 lol.... beautiful weather and lake to ourselves
Truly entertaining, informative and evocative. Are you looking to be the modern Jack Hargreaves? I look forward to the next podcast, thanks for producing something different.
I'm certainly not worthy of that accolade but its strange that you should say it because I was discussing how to give the podcast an out of town feel! Eeerie, huh? Pls subscribe if you haven't already and stay tuned!
I've subbed
Hoping there's more to come
Cheers Adrian!
There is! Working on it now...
Hi Matt , sitting at home next to my wife. She won’t stop nattering. So I’ve got my phone in my pocket listening to you in my right ear with my airpods, rather than my wife . I like the picture of Mick holding the pike.
Top comment a James 🤣🤣👌
I love this comment James. Just saw it again and it made me laugh (again)!
The podcast is going great guns. A couple of you wanted the Spotify link - here it is open.spotify.com/show/2botDfxc0GokGkhVWGonoJ
Is the stupid boy mug a reference to Pte Pike in Dad's Army...hope so.
It absoloutely is! It's the start of the new title sequence from Fishing Tales Season 3, coming soon! Thaks for your support, Robin!
