    Love my G30v2. I like the malt pipe change and will definitely be looking at buying one when it is available. G30 still needs at least one handle. 🍻

    The malt pipe looks like a big improvement. Much as I do like my G30, getting those silicon rings in place is a right pain in the backside!

    Grainfather appear to be correcting many mistakes with the V3, listening to quite a few horror stories on blocked pumps may have put people off.

    We need a Grain Coat asap for the G70 & G40. No good rolling boil on the G40 and G70 below 17 degrees Celsius.

    I thought the idea of sparging was to keep a inch of water above the grain bed, surely this would run out of the side perforations and not efficiently through the grain bed unless you are doing a spray sparge and even so as it goes through the bed it will find its way through the side holes and not rinsing out the sugars fully

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem

      In all the systems that now use this method we see efficiency hit 80%, the perforations are designed to allow just the right amount of flow

    Please tell Grainfather to get a proper bottom plate for the boil stage. One can still use the orignal T piece filter arrangement.

      Hey! Grainfather are very keen on all customer suggestions, both from direct consumers and stockists. I believe they have had this suggestion already, we will see of they are able to develop something in the future to achieve this 👍🏻

  • @mikebeswick3420
    @mikebeswick3420 Před rokem +1

    I would be surprised if this will improve the efficiency of my v2. I like the plate that distributes the sparge on the v2. You can just throw two litres at a time. I see the lack of centre pipe makes it easier to use. But marginally. I think I’ll stick with my v2. But I’m sure it will function fine. I have added the additional bottom plate to my v2 which was or is a game changer. I think this would need the same.

    • @jamesgoacher1606
      @jamesgoacher1606 Před rokem

      I agree. My first experience of AllGrain Brewing - a very long time ago - a Sparged by using a Colander to spread the water out over the grain bed. My re-circulation tube is also longer than original and circles around the top plate in the horizontal plane because I did not like the existing pipe causing the return to hit the plate, I believe it would carve a path into the malt bed. Now mine swirls around the top. Before the GF I enjoyed the rotating Sparge Arm gently laying down the sparge water.

    How does the new longer tube work in practices during Mashing, do you curl it around the top of the grain?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes, you curl it around the top of the grain bed so the flow doesn't go directly down into the mash pipe. Works a treat!

  • @drjohns9160
    @drjohns9160 Před rokem

    Ill be getting the malt pipe upgrade when available but wonder if the top plate does not help to distribute the sparge liquid evenly and hence be worth using still?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem +1

      This design helps a lot actually, they started it on the G40 and what it allows you to do when sparging is see the way the grain bed is settling and move the flow around to speed this out and be more even. The top plate restricts your visibility so you can't see if there is any channeling

      If you add a G-Cast into the mix it makes the unit WiFi by acting as a bridge. The G-Cast will also connect to wireless hydrometers to make them accessible via WiFi too

    I just unpacked my new Grainfather G30. I read that up to now there was a thermal switch installed on the bottom of the boiler. My boiler has a hole in the bottom, but the button is not located there. Have there been any modifications to subsequent models and the lack of a button is normal? Should I return the product?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem +1

      It's really hard to say specifically as it will depend on the amount of grain you want to use/strength of the beer. If you use the GF app you can turn off sparge in it and then work out your volumes based on grain recipe etc..
