AutumnRide86 Interesting you thought this was a draw despite the fact that Arsenal wouldn't have stood a chance of winning the PL without taking maximum points off ManUtd home and away. This 3-2 home game Scholes was fouled in the box at 2-2 ManUtd weren't given the pen. Then in the 2nd imperative narrow win Arsenal had against ManUtd at OldTrafford ManUtd had loads of key players missing and RoyKeane missed both games that season. Arsenal won the title by 1 point. ManUtd scored more and conceded less as well, so the margin was actually half a point.
@@cddb5408 Buddy, why complain, it's not like we knocked you out of your perch. You won the treble the following season and so many titles and cups. You can't have it your way all the time.
@@cddb5408 Arsenal did win by one point but you conveniently ignore the fact that they actually won the league with two games to spare and they just “turned up” for the last two games which they lost both without really trying. You’re a crap loser.
Football in the late 90s/early 00s will never be beaten. Watching eveything back now I'm old i get goosebumps. one of the few away games i didnt go that season with United, impossible to get a ticket and my dad said it wasn't worth trying to jib in (loads did). Even tho we lost it's just so exciting to watch back. Fair play Arsenal that season, we underestimated them. Deserved winners
Today incredibly 24 years since this game was played. It's a game I still highly rate. It was in fact the best game I watched of the two sides. It was Wenger's first ever win over Man Utd. I actually thought we would get thumped because Man Utd were on fire, only a few weeks before they thrashed Barnsley 7-0 and the last game we played was Derby where we lost 3-0. The Platt header still gives me goosebumps, with the crowd jumping in joy.
He played between 1995-98. Legend, it's debatable. He was probably a bright spark playing in a mediocre period until Wenger arrived. He finally succeeded on his final season at Arsenal, but apart from this goal, not sure he contributed during other crucial times.
United's 10 outfield players could've lined up next to Schmiechel, there was no way Platt's header wasn't going in that day. What a match it was! Up the Gunners!
Anelkas first premiership start and first goal against the champions man utd I knew Schmeichal would save Wrights shot but Anelkas. he would then score against them next season followed by the charity shield
It was because that was his first goal for Arsenal and it was special because he scored against the reigning champions Man Utd, which was not expected. Maybe they were hoping an already established player like Ian Wright was going to score, which as an Arsenal player, he never scored past Schmeichel. They never thought an inexperienced player like Anelka would score.
I wonder whether Anelka ever regretted leaving Arsenal. Under Wenger, I think he would have thrived, but then we might not have gone for Thierry Henry.
@@TheRaveMusicArchive indeed but never in the league. Wright and Schmeichel had really had it each other in 1996/97 when Wright accused him of being racist and then in the return game at Highbury, he was caught offside and deliberately stamped on Schmeichel's legs. Incredibly Wright never got sent off or even booked.
No he didn't leave after this match in Nov97 he left at the end of the season he came on for them in their last match of the season the FAcup final 1998.
I will forever have "Oh what a goal! WHAT A GOAL!", "That's VIEIRA!" and "GREAT HEADER, DAVID PLATT!" embedded in my brain
You saw it live?

Vieira's strike was outrageously good.
So stunning

And now football is sterile and completely soulless.
Miss that stadium so much
For some reason I thought this game ended 2-2. How could I have forgotten David Platt's colossal forehead guiding Arsenal to victory. What a game!

Maybe he was thinking of the 2002/03 game where Thierry scored an offside brace lol

@@cddb5408 Excellent point.
There was a fantastic pace and buzz to this game. Electrifying to watch. Absent today however.
Nathan Barnes say again?
Highbury had a great atmosphere.
Arsenal lost 1-3 at home to Blackburn at the tail-end of '97 but then went on an incredible run from out of nowhere really.

"Oh what a goal!! What a goal!!" Scoring a goal of that ferocity at the age of 18, levels to the disrespect the way he went near post vs Schmeichel 😅
God I miss these days
Man... David Platt... So underrated !

That Platt header is one of the best headers I have ever seen
We had platt for one season but that header makes him an Arsenal legend.

Brilliant atmosphere and a brilliant night
Bad result, but what a game it was.
The way we came back from two down showed why we were reigning champions.
