- "The Story of Airlander" is now available free to watch on Amazon Prime via the following link: www.amazon.co.uk/The-Story-of... or available on DVD or Bluray at: sparksflymedia.co.uk/the-stor... (and the filming is better quality than mine!)
Full video of Airlander, coming in to land after its second flight, crash landing at the end. Footage after the crash is very shaky, the shock of seeing her come down, and concern for the pilots, who luckily walked away unharmed.
This must be the same cameraman that shoots the Bigfoot and UFO films
I believe it's actually Michael J Fox.
It did crash land, you can see the cabin is all smashed...
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
ahahahhaahahahahahha
You do realize that zooming in makes the footage more shaky right? Even if you trying to be perfectly still, a 10x zoom will shake like crazy..
I hope the lady holding the camera is okay after that seizure while filming
Props for being able to film whilst standing on a galloping horse
More props for training a horse to gallop in place!
@@eddiebaker3267 and Brian Gould , that was good team work. Thought I was gonna die laughing..

This is what I like about air ships. Even when you are crashing there is time to get bored while still being safe.
The cockpit was crushed under the pressure
i love how chill the pilot is, like he's just dangling out the side all the time
still wonder who is the worst : cameraman or pilot ?
Cameraman Parkinson !!!!
Cameraman its rlly hard to fly aircraft you know
Airships like this may never be practical...
They require commonsense on the part of the ground crew and finesse on the part of the pilot; both very rare traits indeed...
I like the shape though... Very Rubinesque.!
They were relatives
This is the same camera man who shoots the Bigfoot and UFO films.
If I ever have to be in a crash, I want someone who does know how to use a camera filming it.
Don’t EVER use digital zoom without digital stabilization!
Always use a tripod!!
I agree.
A little vodka might be helpful:)
@@alekseistrelkov3085 uh huh?
HailAnts I think is moving and filming at the same time maybe that’s why can’t record good enough next time stay still
The HindenButt.
😆 That crack goes all the way...
Hahahahaha
I noticed that it had a blimp-like appearance... until, to my horror, it turned and the full crack view became visible. Obscene.
for people criticizing the cameraman, he didnt have a tripod, when you zoom, every little movement is a huge distortion, and yet you could see the pilot siting in in the wreck cockpit
Thank you, I only went there to take a few photos! Never expected anything like this to happen.
@@madbikerchick1don’t worry about these twats on here they are just jealous that they weren’t there 🙄
If I ever have to be in an aircraft "crash", I want to be in one like this: happens in slow motion at a few MPH or less, and everyone walks away unhurt.
And Explodes.......... Great balls of fire...... yyyiieehaaaa....
@@bluemarshall6180 Did you see any explosions?
The camera guy zooming must be a Hindenburg survivor. No other explanation possible.
OH THE HUMANITY 😫
Tannu what?
No war this year
The frame is crashing to the ground, not quite to the mooring mast oh the humanity
A significant development
Terrain, terrain, pull Up, pull Up!!!
Woop woop
A person could have a seizure watching this
The kind of crash that noone is scared of....
The sudden loss of hight at the front looks like the gas that lifts the blimp got imbalanced and shifted to the back. Do not know much about that thing but I'm pretty sure the the engineers were smart enough to put in separate cells for the gas to prevent this, aren't they? Greetings from Germany - Home of the Hindenburg and the Zeppelin NT
This is a hybrid vehicle, it doesn't have separate gas cells, but has internal ballonets. Check out "The Story of Airlander" documentary, (link in the description), there is an interview with the pilots they describe how this incident happened. Thank you for watching.
@@madbikerchick1thank you for uploading x
I’m so exited to see this camera shake I’m reading about.
I’m surprised there isn’t the usual hysterical woman screaming in the background
I like how the camera was patient enough to wait until it zoomed in to start shaking
As we say in the airship business:
"Blimpin' ain't easy..."
Lady: If somebody's shaking less than me they can hold the camera.
Me: Please, somebody take the darn camera! Anyone!
🤣
Nice work getting the pic Angela (in 2016). Lots of tips coming through which is helpful. Two from me: best not to zoom - you may not like what you see - and secondly, find something or someone to lean on - who knows what may transpire and to miss it or mess it up may be a significant loss, not least to incident investigators. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you; I only went to take some photos! Don't think anyone could have predicted this happening.
The cameraman must be laughing so hard at all the comments on her shooting skills because I sure am! LOL
How many people died ?
None ?
Can almost not call it a crash.
May I suggest 2X playback speed?
Next time give the phone to someone that doesn’t have Parkinson’s
Well, more like a rather rough landing than an all-out crash.
I would never have the patience to be a blimp pilot
That craft must be very heavy, it seems to have caused an earthquake when it hit the ground..
It seems to have caused an earthquake when it hit the ground --- Dude WTF are you serious?!?!?! Airships are light af when they are flying. They cant be heavy lol! It even bounce off the ground back into the air. That was hard hit ok but not for the beginning of the earthquake. That was actually nothing compare airplane crash.
@@irldeadlycommander It shook the camera
Thanks for sharing!!!
Any landing you can walk away from is a good one! Especially in an airship!
Looks like he STUCK the landing. So to speak.
"everyone can borrow my head." 😆 that child is going to become a legend growing up with airships.
hahahaha.....I hope so! Meanwhile, I make sure I always have a tripod with me now!
I can imagine having some kid walk up to someone and say 'use me instead of a tripod. ' that would also be less luggage. Only bad side is losing the kid
Damn, 6 mins of my life I'll never get back. Thanks .
Someone please arrest the guy who is filming
Love how they sell this as a “quiet” aircraft
It is quieter than a plane or helicopter, and is better for the environment.
@@madbikerchick1 In what way, is it "better" ??
@@itchyvet It doesn't need a runway, can access remote areas, ideal in humane disasters where aid cannot get through. It can carry heavy loads. Can remain in the air for 5 days manned, 30 days unmanned. It's carbon footprint is far less than conventional aircraft, and the company are working on a fully electric craft. It has a lot to offer the world. Check out the documentary; link is in the description.
Lands like shit though..
Zooming in and walking gives me a headache
😎 GREAT camera work , Shakes !!!!!
(Peppa Pig voice): "George, you've done it all wrong!!"
Like... I can’t even understand why all the movement unless that lady was epileptic.
They need to have some kind of buffer like an airbag between the cockpit and the ground given the obvious difficulties they have controlling the thing while descending.
One of the upgrades it had after this incident, was an auxiliary landing system; basically airbags each side of the cockpit, and deployed by the pilot just prior to landing.
@@madbikerchick1 Maybe they should drop the rear end coming in, flairing out smoothly, instead of a nose dive ?
The pilot only had ONE job... Dont smash the cockpit into the ground !
That wasn't a crash just a hard landing.
Mis judgement on speed and maneuverability and agility.
isn't that what a crash is? misjudgement on speed and manoeuvrability and agility followed by hitting the ground?
No hard landing. If you can walk away and it can still fly it is a hard landing.
@@crazyboy-gz3jm it took several months to repair, but it was downgraded from a crash to a heavy landing. Full story is available at vimeo.com/ondemand/airlandertv
And looks. Don't forget looks. It failed Miserably in this department too.
"There's movement in there, there's movement in there."
No my dear, you are the movement 🤭😏
Yes, I was; probably due to the fact I am also human, and was concerned for the test pilots. I'm sure you would have reacted in much the same way.
@@madbikerchick1 Sorry, no offense meant. When it comes to zooming in on anything I'm probably infinitely worse than yourself lol. I was literally just trying to play on the word "movement." It probably came out the wrong way. My apologies. 👍
@@waynemitchell1076 thank you, apologies gratefully accepted! It was all going quite well til it nose-dived, and to be honest, at that point nobody knew if the 2 test pilots were ok. Fortunately, they were both fine, walked away from the cockpit and helped to secure the craft to the mooring mast. Thank you for watching.
angela hatwell dont ever zoom ever!
Hahaha you make my day 🤣🤣
Like the old hindenburg but family friendly
This one is filled with non flammable Helium, not explosive Hydrogen like the Hindenburg was.
Just a bit more practice and they will have it down... In one piece!
How does it fly
They blamed the crash on everything and everyone except the person who flew a perfectly functioning aircraft into the ground.
Nobody:
The cameraman: im going to have Parkinson right now
I shouldve taken motion sickness pills before watching this....
cant tell what was worse the landing or the camera work
Ok what's up with the shape of that thing I worked with airships and I've never seen this shape before is there some reason for it and what caused the crash although watching an airship crash is anticlimactic they don't go down fast at all
It's a hybrid air vehicle, hence the shape.
1st rule of flying - Don't break the aircraft!
slightly underpowered - imagine it in heavy wind
The newly designed Airlander has a vector on the front, to aid control in windy conditions.
@@madbikerchick1 what exactly were you shaking for? You can clearly see everyone is okay! If that causes you to panic, I bet you're fun at fireworks
@@justina7763 You obviously have far better eyesight than I do, as up until the test pilots actually exited the vehicle, nobody where I was standing, knew if they were injured or worse.
@@madbikerchick1 well they clearly weren't dead.. you said in the video there's movement in there you moron! It was a hard landing.. Not a crash!
Underpowerd !
So how all of a sudden does the camera just shake all over the place ?
Who was the accident, the cameraman or the plane
Now, its airCRUSHER.
Everything was fine, until you decided to zoom ... 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Why do they not drop a long rope as the Hindenberg class of ships did that were used to stabilize and hold the blimp in position then reel it in to to the docking pole.
Blimps are hard to maintain in any wind when landing or maneuvering to dock.
Explained elsewhere! Thank you for watching.
Good video!
Poorest photography I have seen. 🥺
Very beautiful, I loved it! I hope nothing more serious happened with the pilot.
Thank you; both pilots walked away unharmed.
Needs braces from eating the sod!
Could it be adapted for mars?
Please do not give her a camera ever again.
I think it's wasn't coming down and the pilot wanted his lunch and thought duck it, I will crash it ha
Pilot Error : He had to reverse the propulsion backwrds .... instead of lifting the vector thrust upwards ...
He tried to land it as you would a conventional airship; this is a hybrid and reacted differently.
Fantastic camera job, BTW, YOU ARE FIRED.
The cellphone is trying to land too??
Anything is worth loading on this site.
I’m getting sea sick!
Maybe try to resist the temptation to have a second Costa Coffee prior to filming.
I dont understand why not use a computerized system with some form of gyros, sensors and feedback to control fan thrust and angle to keep the craft level and steady.
Correction Thunderbird #2
Ground effect, local weather conditions and very indirect controls make this a difficult thing to pull off reliably and safely. Without a way to transition from buoyant to thrust or lift driven flight, these will remain a curiosity at least on this planet. Variable buoyancy designs exist but share the same weakness of poor control authority and wind intolerance.
Simple solution. Fire grapplers at the ground, have them burrow/anchor (robotically) and reel the ship in levelly using software to keep it balanced as you compress your helium or vent/exchange hot air.
There wasn't a problem with the ship, it was the mooring mast. Had that been functioning correctly, there would have been no problem, as the ship made a safe landing; the mooring mast had a fault, so the craft took off again, as it flew round, the mooring line inside the ship came loose and hung down, the ship had to come in far higher than previously to prevent the line from dragging on the ground.
@@madbikerchick1 So why was there not a second mooring mast in case the first failed? Can't they also drop lines from the sides and run them through pulleys anchored to the ground like the old airships did in the 1930s?
@@largol33t1 I don't know why there wasn't another mast, that would be for Hybrid Air Vehicles to comment on. Airlander is a hybrid aircraft, a prototype, there are bound to be issues raised during test flights, and improvements to make.
Well, I’m a big proponent! So keep at it!
4:14 I thought I saw a butt
I’ll never eat another moon pie
The flying ass crashed into the ground!
Bro these comments about the lady shaking had me dead😂😂
[Unnecessary comment on the number of unnecessary comments regarding a camera that miraculously, audaciously, disrespectfully had the temerity to shake when zoomed in 20x--evidently because the person filming actually cared if the pilot was okay.]
Spot on, thank you! Fortunately both pilots literally walked away unharmed.
Back to the ol' drawing board.
It was rebuilt and made several more flights.
@@madbikerchick1 Ok good.
Exactly why the Germans used grounds crews and tethering pylons to land, the air circulating around the airship from its engines and the breeze as it gets close to the ground causes a coanda effect which is difficult to predict
How many times will we try this flawed mistake?
Nice camera work!
5:44 onward, Camera operator needs to lay off the Starbucks. LMAO.
I needed a Starbucks after seeing that happen!
Loved your comment for help stabilizing the camera! Still, excellent footage.
@@robertborchert932 Thank you!
angela it seems that despite witnessing a scary crash of a bizarre yet impressive flying machine all amyone can see fit to comment on is your camera work which i thought was fine given the circumstances
@@saleplains Thank you. Yes, all was going well until the craft hit the ground hard, it was a frightening moment.
Never film whilst drunk!
It was a bit too early in the day for me to be drunk!
Perhaps someone was banging you?! Or other way around?! You were in the process... Didn't the airlander bother you?!
Shaking was after she saw the flight deck damaged. That is what anxiety does to your motor skills.
Who actually thought, "hmmm yes this will be a great idea to build"
Great camera work at the most critical part. Brick
I love big ass airships!
That thing handles like a boat I once owned
Glad to see that Michael J. Fox is bouncing back as a cameraman...
JFC set the thing on top of something before you zoom for stability.. You zooming in that camera probably made the pilot dizzy and caused him to crash..LOL
Haha! His heavy landing made me dizzy and shaky!
The guy who designed this is from the UK?
HE grew up watching the THUNDERBIRDS. This is so Thunderbird#5 the green one.

Diesel V8's........possibly the noisest type of engine ever
It's a prototype, guess the next build will see improvements, and there are plans to build an entire electric vehicle.
thanks! cool video
Just because your phone has a zoom doesn't mean you should use it
The Airlander is now going into production. I believe they are starting on building production facilities this year (2020), as the Cardington sheds are not big enough. The production model is also longer than the prototype seen here.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-51032891
Thank you for posting this, it gives a good view of what happened. Better than other clips that I have seen.
Thank you, and yes, production craft will be of a slightly different design; the company are hoping to produce a fully electric vehicle within 5 years. Cardington airfield is gradually being turned into a housing estate, which is a disgrace.
