    So, one thing about being in your 40s watching fashion content is the reminder of how much you've seen in life. What's old is new. What's new is old.

      I’m in the same boat. What we got on the youngins tho is REFINEMENT! Our been there done that mentality has kinda given us the edge on how to wear these “old” styles better than ever worn before.

    Definitely going for neutral colors this year as they are timeless. Capsule wardrobe is the way to go! I also buy winter clothing during summer and summer stuff I got was from winter. That's the trick for cheaper price :)

    Enjoyed this one. Including content creator brands is an interesting take I haven't heard as much and I think we will definitely see more of this. Makes sense that influencers would start promoting each other's start-ups and move away from fast fashion in my opinion, could change the industry in bigger ways than we expect. I think quiet luxury / custom tailoring is also a better take than just saying slim/skinny jeans are back.

    …one thing I learned from my GrandMama was to have access to a trusted tailor, luckily I’ve been loyal to mine for 3 decades. Never underestimate the effect of a well fitted pair of trousers with its clean simplicity and crisp lines. I am now 55 but still get to wear a majority of my wardrobe such as my Ungaro Safari Jacket which I got from Paris with Mother in 1988. My style always was simple elegance with a dash of crazy.

    If you want to knock out two things at once, do what I do and buy your knit sweaters from the women's section. They are always on sale compared to the mens versions. Go up one size from your tshirt size and you end up with a boxy cropped knit sweater for the low 🤷‍♂

      i cuff my selvedge denim, thats about it

    • @JackMason-oq8lf
      @JackMason-oq8lf Před 4 měsíci

      We always had cuffs on chinos, suit pants, and dressy slacks for sport coats or Shetland sweaters. The best of either are from Ireland. Pants with cuffs were long enough to brush the tops of your cordovan Weejuns, just a slight "break," often worn with pennies and white socks. When Elvis showed up, in the 50s, Fashion went from the Upper Class Ivy League to the lower class street stuff that Fonzy wore, like "pegged" (skinny) blue jeans, which is what poor farm kids wore, with sneakers. No one wanted to look poor in the early 1960s. Elvis became an icon for the bad boys, Rednecks, James Dean, Marlon Brando. Greasy hair (Fonzy was a "Greaser") pompadours, with duck tail doos Leather jackets, white T-shirts, jeans and motorcycle boots. Very LCD, very "juvenile delinquent." Contrast that with the wardrobe of middle-class Ritchie Cunningham, a preppy clean cut look, fresh. When The Beatles ushered in the British Invasion in early 1964 (just after John Kennedy was murdered in Dallas), the old world fell down and blue jeans were on every young butt in America. When with expensive cowboy boots. That was a hoot. The hippies, kinda embarrassed by their "wealth," became poor overnight. They looked slept in. Dirty. Unkempt. With $200 cowboy boots. Oops. Sex. Drugs. Rock&Roll. Lots of each. Copious lots of each. Boomers had started college and were away from Mom & Dad, finally. All hell broke loose. Every day. Fast and furious. Always something new. The Vietnam War united the anti-young, versus the pro not-young. Rebellion in the streets. Fun, fun. fun, and grades, grades, grades, for Graduate School. Education was the way UP in the World. Boomers had aspirations and a work ethic to get ahead. There was a reason it was called "work." But in school, sloppy clothes and long hair for the artsy crowd and Ritchie Cunningham for Business majors.
      That continued until the kids graduated, and began the job hunt. Back to the barber shop. Dark suits or Navy Blue blazers, white, maybe blue, spread collar shirts (IBM mandated standard) and creased trousers for work. Polished shoes. For casual, Navy blazers, white button downs from Gant or Brooks, and wrinkled kakhi pants. No socks (since the early 60s). The Navy Blue Blazer was key. Dress it up or down. Always appropriate. Hippy drag went limp as more college graduates left school for "real life."
      More jeans, 501s for the gay crowd, green bombers, construction boots, flannel shirts. The Clone Look (we dressed like our low-class oppressors). Disco. Bodies. Sweat. Gyms blew up big time, overnight. Every body got tits and arms, overnight. More sex, more drugs, better drugs, and Disco all night on weekends. Levi 501 button-up jeans ( leave bottom button open if you were "open" for sex) and, tits and arms, was the costume on the dance floor. No one wore panties. Easier to drop trou for quick sex. Copious sex. Often as possible. No one needed new clothes at night. New suits and ties (very telling about your background) and good shoes ( head waiters judged men by their shoes. Dirty and cheap got you a table by the kitchen (Siberia). Not cool. We're on our way UP. Good jobs paid good money. Everybody wanted good money. Hard workers, devoted workers, made the most good money. Status. Do better than the Jones's. Look better than the Jones's. Get a better car than the Jones bunch. Trade-up your starter house for a larger one. Move to a neighborhood with good schools. Your 7 & 8 year-old kids are going to Harvard, after all. Buy tailored suits, Custom. Natural fibers all around. Dress like where you're going, not where you've been. Maybe if you keep at it and put in 50 or 60 hours a week, you might get promoted into real money. By age 60, an empty nest, finally, maybe you can now have that Dream Home you've been dreaming about since senior year of high school. Keep your eyes on the prize. Creative visualization. Make iit happen. Get a top-down Mercedes, forest green. One day, Retire. Relax by the pool. Be happy. Travel. Babysit the grand kids. Wear loose and comfortable old worn-in stuff from LL Bean. Forget all about fashion. You've got nothing to prove, no one to impress. You've made it.

      @@donk8105 Old School here. We dressed Ivy League when I was coming up. Ivy was older and "classier" than Prep, more formal, more serious, more studious. Ivy guys smoked pipes, with cherry tobacco, and read the classic "Good Books." They dated debutantes, who dressed Ivy. As couples, they looked good together, like they were on the same page. most likely the cover page of their Trust Funds. Preppies were cut from the same cloth, but they liked rollicking an raucous more than Milton. Preps were much more serious about Keg Parties and First Bases. As such, their exuberance called for more athletic gear and party clothes, in brighter colors, but tasteful colors, which went well with their Navy blue blazers, button down-perfect "roll" collar shirts, in weaves like 100% cotton Oxford. Acrylics are not part of a preppie wardrobe. Rep stripe ties in school colors (preps wore ties and blazers to class every day, with grey trousers and school-color ties.
      My pack all wore cordovan Weejuns penny loafers. Any other colors or brands meant you were there on scholarship. FFV's (First Families of Virginia) extolled Traditional in all ways. Preps like to party, anytime, all the time. Six-packs sounding off are music to their ears. Lots of stupid rituals which are taken in jest and absolute seriousness. Don't screw up or you'll be back in the dorm in no time. If you're not having the time of your life then fake-it like crazy, or quit school. Otherwise, you're dead meat. No one wants a stooge in their frat house. Make sure to study enough to earn a "Gentleman's C" on tests. Don't do queer until they're all asleep. Party hardy.

Have a vintage great coat, and love my Burberry trench coat, vintage as well(the OG). I have baggy clothes but I don’t really like them. Wide fit pants look goofy to me. I’m excited for the influencer’s brand.
    Zip hoodie are gross to me, and bomber jackets are the one tired vintage military item I don’t like.

    That early 2000s revival in fashion nowadays is horrible to watch, but so most fashion trends are. I guess that's what many people think at every decade. Now I'm thinking how in the world can people like those super wide pants and see sports athletes' sneakers like Asics as part of their street style. But yeah gotta be tolerant :D
