Thanks a lot of useful info! I will be getting the 1.5-5 and stack it on top of a fixed filter per high aperture vintage prime I have. Doing a variety of photo and video, wanting to control DOF, motion blur, sudden highlights and switch between lenses. Used the "sunny-16"-rule to calculate a suitable value for the fixed ones, placing the variable filter's range such that I *can* nearly always shoot at max aperture and lowest ISO with shutter speed of 1/60 to 1/15 s with margins (theoretically the range is 1/7,5 to 1/85) on all lenses, including 1/250 s by taking this variable filter off - perfect for 120 fps slomo footage!

Dymamic review and your video looks clean and crispy. It just totally nice to look at. You should do a video on how you get that clean image. Im presuming that you used the BMPCC 6k with the pictor zoom lens that you featured in the review. Keep up the fantastic work.
That is a very good point, and I did not. I recently reviewed the updated True Color version of these and did indeed find that IR is causing some issues. I do now recommend using an IR cut filter with these on BM cameras, and I am hoping NiSi comes out with a quality threaded IR Cut filter to pair with them.

I'm about to buy a SonyA7 IV with Sony SEL 24-105mm f / 4 G OSS 77mm zoom lens. I only make 4K documentaries (I don't do stills) and these documentaries document the daily life of indigenous people in their villages in remote, hot and sometimes even dusty areas. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the color casts of the filter can be corrected in post-production, but not the sharpness of the filter. So I hope that the variable ND filter makes me lose the definition of the clip as little as possible. Could you recommend a precise variable ND filter for me, for my 4K documentaries please with a budget around 150 euro? Thank you very much.
I can only speak about the ND filters I personally use. There are a lot of options out there, and I have not used them all. Unfortunately I dont know which ones provide the sharpest image.
Wait a minute, do these cut IR Pollution?! The color-cast I can deal with, but you can't recover polluted blacks. If these cut the IR Pollution, I'm all in!
1) I will have to buy a variable Nd filter for shooting in bright condition , they come in two ranges , 1-5 and 6-9 ,in very bright light 5 is not enough sometimes and if I buy 6-9 it is darker than I need from 7 onwards , so might have to go for either a bright look or a little dark footage than perfection sometimes, so several people on the net are searching for 3-7 range ... if I don't want to change my camera settings to brighten or darken , the question that just crossed my mind and I wanted you to share your views on it is ..... should I buy 1-5 and darken it later or 5-9 and brighten it later ? which is more preferable ? 2) if I use c log , does that mean it already neutralises the image so 1-5 stops would be more than enough ?

Thank you! Appreciate the kind words! I do indeed primarily shoot with the Pictor 20-55 on the Pocket 6K. I shoot and publish in 4K.
Did you use a IR-cut filter as the BMPCC is prone to IR pollution at high ND filter stops? Would expect this to influence the 5-9 step filter.

Yes it does have threads on the front for stacking. The from threads are the same size as the rear threads.

Nope. Im not aware of any IR VNDs. I do however own a Nisi 77mm IR ND (6 stop) + CPL which is amazing!
Unfortunately they do not. You would need to add an IR Cut solution. I have been talking to NiSi and asking them to make an IR Cut Filter.
I also haven't been able to find any VNDs with IR cut. I use my Firecrest IR Cut filter in front of the VND when IR pollution is an issue.

Sorry for the very late reply. Adding a polarizer to a VND would cause some unwanted issues, as the VND is already two polarizers working together.
What’s the difference of the true color 1-5 stop vs this one enhanced color 1.5-5 , why is the nisi true color like 100$ more ?
True Color is their latest iteration and the glass is optimized to avoid color shift.

Vignetting is going to depend on the lens you are using. You should be safe for most lenses unless you are using an ultrawide.

Normally you wouldn't use thread on filters with a matte box. Matte boxes hold square or rectangular filters.
