Bataan Road Trip No. 9 : MARIVELES
Mariveles is a first class municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 149,879 people.
Mariveles is located in a cove at the southern most tip of the Bataan peninsula and is about 173 kilometers from Manila through the North Luzon Expressway, Gapan-Olongapo Road and Roman Highway.
It can also be reached through jet ferry plying the Mariveles to Manila route that has an approximate travel time of 40 minutes.
Agricultural resources of the municipality include rice, mangoes, legumes, vegetables and coffee. IT also has aquatic resources like round scad, grouper, mussel and abalone; mineral deposits of granite and basalt and forest products like vines and bamboo.
Mariveles takes pride as the host of the very first economic zone in the country, the Bataan Economic Zone, formerly Bataan Export Processing Zone.

We built one of the early factory there in the 80s, called The Schlager Factory. I don’t know if it’s still existing now. We went there either by boat hovercraft through Manila Bay & Corregidor or by bus via San Fernando, Pampanga. Four decades past seems too long ago. I completed watching the video with the hope of seeing the building, but there’s no elaborate drone shot. That factory was big and it has a 3 story office building at the front. I was sad because I didn’t see it.

Next year Ongoing construction long brigde new Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge project than 32 km off Manila bay Mariveles,Bataan to Naic,Cavite Package 1to 4 about over budget PhP 175 Billion from DPWH by Complete 7 or 8 years.
Time trip 5 hours to 40 minutes.

Snippet: Let's change the name Roman Hwy into Bataan Hwy. Could you record it permanently on the map? Our land does have a solid history with the Bataan March world war 2 story with Gen. Visited Mariveles two weeks ago worked there in late 70’s to early 80’s hardly recognized the little town to much congestion no more open space the water front was ruined by dredging too many ships anchored on that tiny bay checked the water so dirty this is the result of too much pollution and blatant disregard for the environment.
