The photography looks so exceptionally good for the late 80s and the early 90s

Drug trafficking, sex, murders, money laundering, gambling...you name it! This was the place for the makings of a good Triad crime drama.
not quite so, if it had been the hell you describe, the people wouldn't have gathered in numbers over there, even with their children. If anything, that unique occurence in modern history shows that, when you have an homogenic ethnicity of people, you can have a whole LOT of people living in the same area, without a degradation in condition of life. They were all chineese people, and willing to build businesses. But, if you pack in OTHER ethnicities in numbers in same places, you get riots, gangs, and geneally speaking a place no one wants to live in. Can you guess which ethnicty gives what results ? . . . . : )

@@greghauser742 i've heard stories from policemen that it wasn't as bad for the general public as people make it out... more of youth gangs messing with old people. the walled city was more of a place for people to sleep while during most of the day they spent their lives in the city

there's a Unity asset pack for this, and its sample scene with an alley and a few apartments has been made into a gritty and detailed VRChat world. I wonder if anyone who's been there in real life has ever seen it.
I wish it hadn't demolished and should be preserved. It's part of Hongkong's history. It will also be a good tourist spot.
Crime rates were off the hook at it cost too much to maintain. They couldn't preserve it as there would also be tons of squatters.

I stepped foot inside the kowloon Walled City in the mid 60's , I was in my mid teens. Knowing that there were no official governing authorities, needless to say , I didn't linger.

Many from rich countries say, I love Kowloon Walled City, I'd love to visit there, why they demolished it. But I am sure they can't live there longer than a half day, or they won't be able to come outside alive if it still exists.

I really think Walled City was a very fascinating place, but the book itself is more a marketing collection of stories, rather than a book focused on life and residents themselves. For me, from the first page it was too obvious the book was focused on making money and not in telling the real life conditions
