I've been to Custer State Park before, and at the time it was the largest contained, and managed herd of Bison in the country, it's a beautiful sight to behold!

Just so you know, these are the Northern Great Plains. Not a lot of people by our standards but more than all of Ireland. The land gradually rises up over hundreds of miles from the Mississippi River Valley and its huge tributaries, including the Missouri somewhat south of this, until it reaches the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies are a huge, high and thick chain of mountains that extend from the Arctic to deep into Mexico under different names. To the west of the Rockies is the huge Great Basin country and west of that more mountains and lands. Eventually you reach the Pacific but it's a very long way away from South Dakota.
Come visit sometime. If you do, I suggest going to every national park in the western United States, west of the Mississippi. The five “must-see” national parks would be Yosemite and Muir Wood’s in California, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in Wyoming. There are many others, as well. If you have a lot of time, see them all. You’ll never forget it.
Visited Rapid City, and also Custer State park, some years ago (travelled from Norway). Beautiful place! You must visit the Crazy Horse Monument also.
My Dad took me and my sister's there when I was little 55yrs ago!!! I will never forget it 🤗💕😃
We had a funny experience right where you were filming from. We were visiting there in a motor home and we had our little Shih-tzu with us but we were pretty sure she hadn’t seen the bison yet so we held her up to the window and we hear grrrrrr. She at her ten pound best was ready to take on those bison. We got a great laugh out of that and still bring it up when we think about how brave she is. Hope you had a great time there. I’m sure it was more meaningful for you because of what you are trying to do. It has been 10 years since we were there but we still remember how much fun we had seeing all those buffalo/bison.
I had a 10 pound Yorkie that would do the same lol!!

We were there last summer. If you are still there, you gotta eat at the Bluebell Lodge. Best Buffalo burgers ever! That was our go to place to eat.
You’re not far from Wind Cave National Park. There is a large bison herd there, plus beautiful caves to tour through.

Custer state park was an amazing experience, bison, coyote, prairie dogs, and more, we enjoyed it and threaded the needle.

Love it! I have been to Custer State Park about 5 times since 1967 when 14. Last time late second week July, this year. Drove everywhere in Park, even the empty corrals. Love this area of So. Dakota. Of course Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monuments. Bison on road stopping traffic walking around vehicles. One female was cleaning this fellows van with her tongue. Bison wash 😝. Loved it the whole time.

I first thought my the herd grew fast!! I always want to go there. But did see many in CO when we went. Looking at this gives me a glimpse of how it must have been back when the buffalo were in the thousands! Thanks for sharing. Horses and bison.. just like in the movies. No fences, wow! They have round up the bison for the Buffalo Roundup....very excited you are able to participate. We have spent the past 5 summers here and we spend a LOT of time in Custer State Park. In fact driving thru the park last night I got a photo of a solitary male munching away on the side of the road at one of the local campgrounds. You will have the experience of a lifetime at the Buffalo Roundup!

The smile on your face says it all!! Beautiful bison herd!!! Fun to see the horses and riders passing by. Enjoy yourself tomorrow and be careful! What an amazing adventure to take part in!! Don't forget to stop and see Crazy Horse Monument while you're there. And try a fry bread taco! Their museum and film are outstanding! You can take rides up near the monument to get an up close view. It was my favorite, next to the bison!!

Was in Custer State park years ago. Beautiful to see the bison roam free. Went through them to get to
Mt Rushmore . I was just in awe at their size yet their gentleness. I think that’s what drew me to your channel. I live just a short distance from a small herd here in St Johns Michigan.

Those Burros are so neat! They usually put some of the jacks up for adoption every year because they can’t have too many of them. I’ve always wanted to adopt one from Custer, but no place to keep except my garage. That could be Brook’s new project next spring. It’s hard to leave Custer without leaving your heart there too. I know you & the family will love it!

I was in this area four years ago. We took in Yellowstone, the Little Big Horn battle field, Mount Rushmore, and Custer State Park. As close as it gets to what it was like 200 years ago. Thanks for the video!

We were there a few years ago and enjoyed seeing the roaming bison, Silvan Lake, and even drove our dually pickup through needle eye. Boy I was clutching that seat cover (and not with my hands) :P If you aren’t familiar with needle eye, watch some YT videos. Such a beautiful state!!
