Im not here for moral highs, Im here for dramatic toxic, gothic, romance between two soulmates. Give me drama, give me angst.
YASSSSSSS, BOO! YASSSSSSS!
Preach.
Oh, the drama is there. Lestat it's Drama for breakfast and Louis doesn't push it off the bed either when it knocks
They're so toxic but so attractive. Like, these are two beautiful men
I think we all watch this show and ship this ship without blindfolds. Toxic, dangerous, insane. They love each other and we're here for that heartbreaking journey
Lestat was telling the truth about his father. We learned that story in "The Vampire Lestat" book.
I don't think Lestat lies very much, in my recollection; he witholds information and only tells what he wants you to know when he wants you to know it. He definitely has an issue with transparency, but he doesn't make up stories. You can mostly trust that what he says is true.
Detail: Lestat went to Louis 's house wearing a carnation in lapel. He was sending a message to Louis' family. We are a couple, ok family?
Aww the historical symbolism will be the end of me!! 😫🥰🫠
Not only that, but the vibrant green tie and deep DEEP green suite. He essentially come to dinner to meet Louis' homophobic family, wearing the time periods equivalent of a pride flag. Just draped over his shoulders, with full pride. And the fact that Louis' tie complimented his. I was beside myself. I was both "this man did not just..." & "Of course you would _Lestat_ , only you". This show gives me so much life, it's wild!
The toxicity, the hidden vulnerabilities, the miscommunications, the indulgences, the things they admire in each and the devastating love and adoration is what make people root for this couple - especially for those of us who read all 13 books, ending in 2018. Despite the unreliable narration, there was such an earnest intention to love and revel in each other. This show is capturing all of that for me.
I’m so glad to see another fan who enjoys this series. I do hope to one day see a word for word adaptation of Queen of The Damned just cause I love the 80’s and hair metal and the aesthetic of the scenes in the 80’s, but I am absolutely enthralled by this take on the books. I love the feeling watching this show gives me, because I genuinely don’t know what’s going to happen next, just like when I read the books for the first time. I have a vague idea based on what happens there, but it is such a thrill to try and figure it out. Also Jacob Anderson is so compelling as Louis. And the acting is top tier.
@@jackceltic4947 Absolutely. I don't know why some people are so upset with the adapted contexts. They only enhance the story. I don't actually need a word for word re-telling of these stories. The soul is there - and it's BRIGHT. I love that I recognize the story I fell into 20 yrs ago - and that I somehow have no clue what is about to happen. And that's how it should be a for a tv adaptation. I don't know if I'd be as captivated if it was exactly as it is in the books. It should make me question my own memory, I should enjoy the easter eggs and the clues, I should be thrown off my game, I should be looking forward to what will be revealed each week, each season. And I am all of those things. How many of us, those with deep love for a world, can ever say that we're re-living the feeling of falling in love all over again? Not many. I can legitimately say that I don't have a clue how they'll weave all of these stories and characters together. That's exciting. But I also know that these characters are 100% the ones I know and love - and maybe even more than before.
@@crissiampco “it should make me question my memory” or as Daniel would put it ‘the odyssey of recollection’
I’m so excited for what comes next. Great to hear from you.
I love that so many people rather than excusing the toxity are just "yes its toxic and if this was real life it would be bad but its fiction so hell yes its toxic but I love them!" Too many fandoms want to ignore or glorify the behavior but overwelmingly Ive not seen it with this series.
Thank you for sharing!
Most are living this toxicity in their relationships as we speak. The sooner humans accept nothing last forever the better off we'll be in letting the bs go
I like the Sam Reid Lestat much better than the Tom Cruise Lestat in no small part because this one has a French accent.
Yeah, it's interesting how much an accent can improve your immersion into the story. Especially an accent that is decently & consistently put on. Sam is doing a great job with Lestat's French accent, IMO. And I agree I like Sam's Lestat a little bit more than Tom Cruise's BECAUSE of the accent. 100%.
@@AnxietyRat Yes, it does take you out of the story, because you have to ask, how long has Lestat been in America, and when did he lose his accent? French accents tend to be really strong, they don't just fall away easily. Plus, he never speaks French or reference French stuff that often, so the original was really not trying to sell that he was French, did not illustrate any cultural issues between Lestat and Louis as French American and an actual Frenchman. It also didn't explain much about the reason for Lestat's interest in Louis and why he chose him as a companion, if you take romantic infatuation/sexual attraction out of the equation, why you would want to hang out with this guy for eternity.
Also, the series gives both characters more personality and depth. Brad Pitt's Louis was just somber and broody all of the time, whereas Cruise's Lestat was just a preening, peacocking asshole all the time. Each character had exactly one personality trait that they played to the hilt from start to finish, whereas these portrayals are multifaceted. Lestat is still an asshole but that's not all he is, Louis does more than just mope, and he loves Lestat, he isn't just stuck with him. The resentment he feels towards his is gradual, whereas in the film (and somewhat in the book, to be honest) it is immediate. Though that can be blamed on Louis' subjectivity, editing the story in bitterness to say he never really liked the guy.
@@moonlily1 yeah, accents can fade over time. But they can also be lifelong. I had a few British relatives that moved to where I live, which is not England, and they kept their accent ...granted they moved when they were like in their 30s or 40s so they spent a decent chunk of their life surrounded by people with the same accent as them. But yeah, they didn't really lose it when they moved and they still had those accents when they passed away in their 80's. But it's also super common for your accent to fade a little bit when you're away from people who don't sound like you.
But yeah, I watched the movie recently and they DO have Lestat say a few French phrases but because he has an American accent it's really kind of out of place and sounds weird that they just have him tossing around some French words for no reason with zero hint of a French accent. In the show its much more natural sounding.
I agree, the characters have much more depth. The writers have talked about why that is...its is partly because the movie was solely adopting Interview With the Vampire. Whereas the show is taking snippets and personality traits from the ENTIRE Vampire Chronicles series and interweaving them in the characters now. I think that's why they seem to have a lot more depth. Cuz yeah, in the book, Louis was just bitter and angry and brooding. And Lestat was dramatic and childish and intense/cruel. Both of them kinda one note... Both of their characters get expanded upon in later books. People's perspective on Lestat kind of changes dramatically from 'Interview with the Vampire' where it's in Louis' perspective and 'The Vampire Lestat' which is from Lestats perspective and Anne wrote it almost a decade later so she had been thinking about Lestat and what kind of person he was for about a decade.
@@AnxietyRat I actually didn't like Lestat much better after getting his side of the story. He wasn't the one dimensional baddie Louis made him out to be, but he definitely IS an arrogant and selfish creature. As much as Rice loved him, I never quite took to him. My personal feeling as the reader is that both characters have their biases. I don't think Louis lied about Lestat but interpreted his motivations incorrectly, but Lestat bares the blame for that misunderstanding because he chose to be evasive, manipulative and cryptic. Louis just painted him as a sociopath when really he's just more of a narcissist.
That being said, there are some people who just pick up accents really quickly and we could just say that Lestat is one such person, or perhaps speculate that he consciously adapted an American accent in order to fit in better and draw less attention to himself. However, it is more immersive to the story to have the character's nationality as a distinct part of his identity that you as the viewer notice, that his background is not incidental to the person he is now. Cruise may have been incapable of doing a French accent, or he might just not have wanted to be bothered, or wasn't asked to be bothered. I have more respect for the fact that in this production, people did the work to make the characters authentic and fully realized.
He also has a deep, sensual voice.
I mean, a toxic relationship wouldn't be a toxic _relationship_ if there wasn't something getting you to come back. With Lestat, life can be hell. But when it is good, it is heavenly. Up until the end, it is clear that a part of Louis still loves him, will always love him, even though he _knows_ Lestat will make him miserable. And in his way, i think Lestat loves him too. In the only way that he knows how, materialistic, possessive and controlling, but it is all he can give louis and he _does_ gove him all when he is agreeable-
This show took over my life
I love you giving out brownie points. 😂
6:42 Couldn't agree more. I love everything about this show, but the authentic southern gothic vibe is just **kisses fingers** _magnifique_
"Down to clown" lol I laughed so hard!
The thing that makes Louis and Lestat a brilliantly tragically toxic, fucked-up, damaged pairing is because it's like seeing a car crash and a train wreck rolled into one happening before your eyes and you can't look away from it.
Listen!!!!! When Louis said he would bleed Paul like a kochon bruh.......I too fell in love with Louis at that moment. Me and Lestat had the same reaction!!!! 😍😜
If only I were his type!!!! 😂😂😂
you are the first reaction channel ive seen laughing at the levitating scene, it was probably not the intention but i laughed so much the first time watching it LOL. great reaction, looking forward to part 2!
Funny thing is in an interview they said to film that scene, they sat on a seesaw naked while someone else pushed it down. 😂😂
@@makaylarhodes7442 yes i heard!!! i only thought it was funnier after learning that!
Lol well it was equally funny in the movie though a little different
@@0912sooli yeah, I think a lot of people didn't laugh at this version because the movie version they flew up like 10 ft into the fucking air and it was hilarious. So this version was much less dramatic and fucking ridiculous than in the movie. 😂😂😂 Yeah, I think there's been like one other person I've seen who's kind of giggled at that scene in the show.
I laughed too. There is something about how they filmed it that just comes off as comedic.
Great reactions. I agree I don't care if they're toxic because they're entertaining and I love them/drama.
Lestat and Louis were seeing each other all the time. Now they have sex and Louis resolves never to see him again.
Louis deals with alot, within himself and within the world he's built and maintained for so long before Lestat. He's also very VERY human, he's not perfect. That though, was 100% gay panic, and undiluted clown behavior, on Louis' part. But Lestats response was clown behavior dialed up to 1,000. So I feel like they were pretty well matched 😅
Okay, this may be my favorite reaction so far!
You can't shut that nite out of your mind Louie you screwed in thin air...lol
"I thought about it again and it got re-funny" 😂 loving your reaction so far!
eta: yep that's an immediate subscribe. On to part 2!
Your reaction was everything!! 😂 ❤️
Girl you got me with those observations and brownie points!
Your reactions and the "Brownie Points" had me CRACKING UP 🤣
🙂; Lestat reaching for Louis... (17:07) 😊awwwh!
Love your reactions, can't wait to watch you review the rest of the series.
*Vampire bon-ner! (4:55)😅 ~Lestat Stalked Louis before they met., That's why he was there with Lily, and at the card game... He just wanted to meet Louis.
➡Lestat was doing vampire mind control tricks on Louis from the jump... (he couldn't move, his gaze had him stuck) 8:18 / Lestat was not scared to shoot his shot!🙂
😏; Louis counted that hook-up as a one night thing and didn't plan on going back.) But Lestat wanted him and did any and everything to get him... and when that didn't work he busted in the church and forced Louis to be with him under duress! (vampire telepathy, love-bombing, fear, etc.)
I didn't know they made a tv show. Loved the movie. And I love your reaction and your sense of humour. Subscribed, so keep them coming, please :)Hugs from Norway.
The movie was horrible. I've never understood the love for it. This is as perfect an adaption as anyone could hope for.
Nice reaction seen the pilot and I'm immediately hooked onto the show.
I miss this show so much I am rewatching it for I dont know how many times, and I wanted to rewatch your reactions too. I live for your hilarious brownie points! 🤣🤣🤣
I can't wait for season 2 and for Armand to get all those brownie points lol
He’s definitely going to get quite a few 👍🏾

Louis is so cute . Lestat is definetely dangerous he can seduce a damn rock.
We need part2!!
We need part 2!!!
Hello there. Watching your videos this holiday weekend. Big fan of the Anne Rice vampire multiverse. Excellent commentary.
Please , post part two ! 🥰
I love your reaction...new subscriber 😍 right now it's on episode 4
Love your videos. I'm a lover of all things spooky and I was a paralegal for 14 years. :)
Loved this reaction, but...why are both parts being uploaded on different days? I don't understand why some reactors do that.
Thanks so much, and I’m not sure why others do it but I do it to try to dance around copyright. Sometimes I have to re-edit a whole video more than 5 times just because the automatic copyright checks decide to flag a 2 second clip ☺️
@@ihaveadatetonight9197 Yeah, that makes sense. Those copyright bots are crazy and so seemingly random. Thank you for the response. :)
Subbed!
Ann Rice was a very prolific author won in her 80 years of life wrote almost 40 novels. This TV show like the movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt it’s only loosely based on her work. I really do like the books better. They cover thousands of years n just the last century.
I've read all 13 books over and over again over the last 20 yrs. And I love this show just as much as the books. All the changes enhance the tone, motivations and themes in the books. It's a definite success for me. It's exactly what I wanted and needed a tv adaptation to be. I'm so excited to see how they weave all the other elements, characters and storylines together. It's gonna be a blast.
People need to learn to separate the two forms. You could never include everything in a book and most novels are written in one perspective. That's why film can expand the world and the scenarios. New fans learn more before the reader and that's what makes it essential and exciting for both viewerships. The creators hope to bring new readers to the saga as well. For book fans, many say we wish for something exactly like the book, when an exact replica would be boring in reality. Where's the discovery and surprise?
