  • This is a brief video, taken from a Tram Video of all around Liverpool in the 1950's. If you are from Old Swan you may recognise St. Annes School on the left( 8 secs ) , 19 seconds is the flats in the distance, now Tesco's, 29 secs is the kwik save on the right, Highfield shops are around 46 secs and 1:26 is the Calgary Church and Baths in Dovecote. It's basically taken along Prescot road ... in the 50's ! ! This video is a great film of all around Liverpool suburbs.

Thank you so much for posting. This is why I made my little videos - so in years to come people will be able to see what OldSwan was like. My greatest regret is that I wasn't a camera fiend in my childhood. :)

Ahh, my old stamping ground. Blackhorse Lane Tram stop, the terminus for the number 9 trams and the start of the central reservations that ran all the way to the outskirts of Prescot. What a mistakethey made to scrap them all instead of keeping and modernising them.
Can just remember going to the kids shows at the "Old" Regent and the opening of the "New", about 1938?
Strange that the "Old" building is still there but the "New" is well gone.

Old Swan, sadly another place in Liverpool that has gone down the dumps, same goes for Tuebrook which I've heard used to be a nice place to live even in the 80s, though nearby West Derby hasn't been affected and is abit of an affluent area.

Hi just wondering if you can help me? Im looking for some additional footage of a Street Party in Childers St, Old Swan. I think I came across it around footage of trams. It was to celebrate the 1969 moonlanding, with a homemade spaceship in the background. It has my Mum, and Brother in the footage, who are sadly no.longer with us anymore. I'm grasping at straws, but I'm just posting this in the hope it may jog someone's memory. Thank you for your time.
