Kai and Sehun speak to each other on a deep level when the other members aren't there so Sehun probably knows how Kai really feels about those kind of comments on Kai's skin better than Chanyeol. That explains why when Chanyeol asked Kai if he wants to lighten his skin, Sehun looked so angry himself and he looked to Chen as if to why, "Why are you laughing, that's not funny." Sehun's a good friend.

I feel like Baekhyun needed more hugs from the members here. The poor boy looked exhausted. Someone down below said he was sick, and they mentioned during the show that he was hurting from stress lately (I think they mentioned him taking pills, too). I hope things have gotten better for him sense, but it was nice to see Minseok taking care of him a bit. It's so easy to get distracted by their constant animosity (usually caused by Baek being an annoying brat, as usual) and forget that they really are close, that they tease and threaten because they have a good, solid foundation of friendship in there. And friends take care of friends who are hurting, no matter what. Minseok did that pretty well here, I think. But still not enough hugs.

This is why Kai is my Bias. He's very thoughtful and mature, esp in solo interviews. As a darker skinned person, I got teased too, and I really appreciate the fans who are standing up for him and that comment Chanyeol made. Kai is my favorite because people see him as sexy and a great dancer, but he's more than just that.

Am I the only one who doesn't feel offended or hurt by Chanyeol's comment towards Kai during the game?... For me, with my best friends and family, we joke around a lot. Whether if it's calling each other fat or ugly or dumb. We even throw skin-color remarks. They were playing a game. You had to ask hard questions. When Chanyeol asked that question, I laughed with them-- not because I found it funny and agreed that Kai should whiten his skin. NO. I laughed because it was cute at how they were getting along. Idk, it just seemed like an inside joke between them. I'm not saying it's okay. I know it hurts other people. But their culture is different from your culture. Plus they're celebrities-- they all want to look good. In America, there are so many people getting tans or losing weight. That's just how it is. But there are a lot of idols who don't care how they look and are more than fine with it! Which is why I'm happy That Kai is happy with his color. It may just be me though. They always joke around-- whether if it's about Kai whitening his skin, Sehun tanning his skin, Kyungsoo having to grow taller, Lay with his acne, Tao and his dark circles, Chen wearing insoles, etc. I know they joke around with each other and that's why I don't get mad. to be honest i don't think its Chanyeol's fault that he makes these jokes about Kai's skin, it all comes from the culture he belongs too, in which light skin is more desirable, unlucky for Kai some of his features aren't specifically 'idealistic' in the eyes of his fellow Koreans however, i find him extremely attractive and as a British citizen don't find skin colour to be a big deal because i've been brought up that way, again, unlike Chanyeol. Asia is notorious for prejudice views, and just how you can't say all Asians think this way, you can't exclude your idols just because they are a big influence on your life/ your role models. this personally didn't change my view on Chanyeol as an artist as i believe he is genuinely a nice guy and good at what he does, people need to chill the fudge out. Korea, China, India, and several other Asian communities deal with this issue. But to say it's not Chanyeol's fault for making these "jokes"? Being ignorant is harmful enough in obscurity, but in one of the most popular/influential groups in S.Korea? It would serve Chanyeol well to educate himself on shadism and refrain from making such comments in the future, as it hurts both Kai and his darker-toned fanbase.

Chanyeol's my bias and all but I have what is considered dark skin like Kai so sometimes when he teases Jongin I get self-conscious too. But I think we're forgetting shows like EXO's Showtime where Chanyeol was Kai's biggest fanboy and thought that he was the most handsome in the group. Korea's culture is different from the West and they consider fair skin to be beautiful, so the blame truly lies with their society's standards of beauty; Chanyeol grew up adapting to that and while he is in the wrong, we should remember that he (and many other Koreans) believe that dark skin isn't desirable (but not ugly). Lashing out at Chanyeol will not change a standard he accepted for 23 years.

(Not that he needs to do this anyway). Since when do ''friends'' humiliate one another on national radio. You need to educate yourself on how colorism affects people worldwide including Koreans. They have this ideal that having white/fair skin is the best thing and being tanned is not a good look. There are too many accounts of tanned Koreans who were teased just like kai because they were considered as dark. Besides a friend would not tell another friend to use skin whitening products which would most likely cause them to get skin cancer in a few years. Habits can take years to get rid of, and on the spot the first thing you say could be irrational and/or rational. Chanyeol might have said it out of habit (to Kai). They might have made up after the cameras went off, we don't know that. Chanyeol probably knows it's not right for him to say that, but on the spot (to be funny -and i know this from experience), he said something insensitive. As an Asian myself, my parents are the most racist and judgemental people, I've ever met but I can't blame them for thinking that, because that's what they were taught since they were young. What I can blame them though is for still thinking like that even after moving to a multi-cultural country, but that's *beside the point*. Again, for the Suho thing. I do agree that what he(Yeol) said was out of line, but what do we know about how they act outside of cameras; behind closed doors. I, for one, feel really uncomfortable when people tease me, so I don't do it to others and I don't stick around those that do it. Not everyone can take it lightly and be like "oh, it's just a joke so it's okay."I'd understand someone saying it's being blown out of proportion if it had been about a member's height or something along those lines but what Chanyeol said (and has said many times in the past) was a very colorist statement. I think the fans are more concerned about that than they are about Chanyeol teasing the members. Colorism is an issue, and Chanyeol is a repeat offender. I'm not saying that Chanyeol is a bad person. I don't think Kai is insecure about his skin tone at all, he's heard jokes about his tone for ages now. I do think he (and Sehun) think Chanyeol crossed the line, which is why you saw Sehun's eyes spark right after the question, and how he started scowling about it. Chanyeol saw that and tried to hug it off. The content of the joke kept the same theme as prior ones, but its delivery didn't come off right. Who knows? For all we know, they could've had a convo after concerning that joke. Maybe they did, and maybe they didn't. Guys, you need to understand Asia. Skin color has nothing to do with race and everything to do with beauty. They value light skin a lot as a beauty factor, because their past taught them that light skin meant the wealthy, and tanned skin meant the peasants working on the farms (working under the sun = tan). No, Chanyeol was not racist nor colorist in his comment, but valuing a beauty standard. THIS IS STILL BAD, because he is conforming to beauty standards rather than a person's feelings and self esteem, but you guys need to get your facts straight and argue with a good reason that actually makes sense. No, Chanyeol does not see darker skin as literally inferior to humans (like slaves) or hates dark people, but he is showing a bias towards Asia's beauty 'requirements'. It's kind of like having no acne is beauty, even though there's no helping it, and we all attempted for a life without acne with the use of pills, tons of face wash, etc.; it doesn't mean we're inferior to those who naturally have way less acne, and those people who do have way less acne don't see us a humanely inferior. I'm Chinese and I'm very aware that in Eastern Asian countries, dark skin isn't considered attractive. I live in California so naturally I've become pretty tan and whenever I visit China, my relatives are always making fun of my dark skin and they do also sometimes say "oh, when are you getting your skin whitened?". They're my relatives and I love them regardless of anything but it does start to become quite annoying and mean after a while because according to their standards, I'm not as attractive as a paler person. I personally think it's terrible that they base their judgement of whether or not a person is attractive by their skin color, but that's how it is in Eastern Asia. So Kai might have been pretty offended by Chanyeol's comment because we don't know if this was an isolated incident (Sehun looked offended too). Chanyeol could have make the joke multiple times behind the scenes. I don't think that it's fair to give Chanyeol a pass on this because "it's just a joke". And I'm not hating on him, he's my bias and I absolutely adore him. But I do think that it was quite rude of him to say that and it's understandable if Kai and other people are mad. I also don't think it's right to give other people shit who ARE offended. We're all different and there are probably others who have a direct effect to this like I do. I think it's time to stop overlooking these kinds of things and letting them go just because we love them. I'll love and support them, but I'm not going to love and support comments like these because at least in my eyes, it was just simply mean. I'll always be an Exo-L but I feel like I needed to speak out about this because there are so many people in the comments that are just like "oh shut up guys, it's a joke. Don't take it so seriously." And even if Kai is comfortable with it, Chanyeol shouldn't have made it sound like being dark skinned is so bad that you need to get your skin whitened (virtually conforming to their society's ideal image of beauty).
Just to add on: at the end of the day, all this just stems from their society's belief of what beauty should be. It's no different from when girls in America crave for a thigh gap or something. Although, some have tried to combat that through funny tumblr posts that basically say "hey, I'm okay with not having a thigh gap", which is great because it means they're comfortable with their body. However, it seems to me that conforming to society's image of beauty is more prominent in Eastern Asian countries than in America. But that's just my opinion.

I feel like Baekhyun needed more hugs from the members here. The poor boy looked exhausted. Someone down below said he was sick, and they mentioned during the show that he was hurting from stress lately (I think they mentioned him taking pills, too). I hope things have gotten better for him sense, but it was nice to see Minseok taking care of him a bit. It's so easy to get distracted by their constant animosity (usually caused by Baek being an annoying brat, as usual) and forget that they really are close, that they tease and threaten because they have a good, solid foundation of friendship in there. I laughed because it was cute at how they were getting along. Idk, it just seemed like an inside joke between them. I'm not saying it's okay. I know it hurts other people. But their culture is different from your culture. Plus they're celebrities-- they all want to look good. In America, there are so many people getting tans or losing weight. That's just how it is.
But there are a lot of idols who don't care how they look and are more than fine with it! Which is why I'm happy That Kai is happy with his color.
It may just be me though. to be honest i don't think its Chanyeol's fault that he makes these jokes about Kai's skin, it all comes from the culture he belongs too, in which light skin is more desirable, unlucky for Kai some of his features aren't specifically 'idealistic' in the eyes of his fellow Koreans however, i find him extremely attractive and as a British citizen don't find skin colour to be a big deal because i've been brought up that way, again, unlike Chanyeol.
Asia is notorious for prejudice views, and just how you can't say all Asians think this way, you can't exclude your idols just because they are a big influence on your life/ your role models.
this personally didn't change my view on Chanyeol as an artist as i believe he is genuinely a nice guy and good at what he does, people need to chill the fudge out.

Chanyeol's my bias and all but I have what is considered dark skin like Kai so sometimes when he teases Jongin I get self-conscious too. But I think we're forgetting shows like EXO's Showtime where Chanyeol was Kai's biggest fanboy and thought that he was the most handsome in the group. Korea's culture is different from the West and they consider fair skin to be beautiful, so the blame truly lies with their society's standards of beauty; Chanyeol grew up adapting to that and while he is in the wrong, we should remember that he (and many other Koreans) believe that dark skin isn't desirable (but not ugly). Lashing out at Chanyeol will not change a standard he accepted for 23 years.

Sanya Pal you are so insensitive and clueless to this issue it is scary. since when do friends make fun of another person's skin color which is something he was BORN with and cannot change ? (Not that he needs to do this anyway). Since when do ''friends'' humiliate one another on national radio. You need to educate yourself on how colorism affects people worldwide including Koreans. They have this ideal that having white/fair skin is the best thing and being tanned is not a good look. There are too many accounts of tanned Koreans who were teased just like kai because they were considered as dark. Besides a friend would not tell another friend to use skin whitening products which would most likely cause them to get skin cancer in a few years.
Chanyeol has always made jokes about tao and kai's skin tones and that shit wasn't funny the first time and it certainly isn't the 100th time either.
Lastly they are celebrities and they have a brand to protect. So of course they are going to act like they are a family etc because that's the image they've been selling all these years. An image which was manufactured in a PR agency. Don't be so naive and think that because they always say 'we are one' that they actually are.

Habits can take years to get rid of, and on the spot the first thing you say could be irrational and/or rational. Chanyeol might have said it out of habit (to Kai). They might have made up after the cameras went off, we don't know that. Chanyeol probably knows it's not right for him to say that, but on the spot (to be funny -and i know this from experience), he said something insensitive. As an Asian myself, my parents are the most racist and judgemental people, I've ever met but I can't blame them for thinking that, because that's what they were taught since they were young. What I can blame them though is for still thinking like that even after moving to a multi-cultural country, but that's *beside the point*.
Again, for the Suho thing. I do agree that what he(Yeol) said was out of line, but what do we know about how they act outside of cameras; behind closed doors. If Suho and Kai were really uncomfortable with what he said, they would have most likely talked over it when they weren't in front of many cameras and in their private time.
I personally wouldn't be comfortable with talking about how an insensitive joke hurt me in front of many cameras AS WELL AS in a radio station that they were being guests in.

I, for one, feel really uncomfortable when people tease me, so I don't do it to others and I don't stick around those that do it. After Chanyeol made that statement about Kai's skin... Chen started laughing while Sehun looked at him with the "are you kidding me? Is this funny to you" face... Sehun is such a great dongseng... He cares so much for Kai and after they moved on Sehun gave Chanyeol the look of "can't believe you said that" face... I honestly think that it was a question that really got to Kai since he's been insecure about his skin got quite awhile... Something that got to me was after this was aired... I don't think Kai is insecure about his skin tone at all, he's heard jokes about his tone for ages now. I do think he (and Sehun) think Chanyeol crossed the line, which is why you saw Sehun's eyes spark right after the question, and how he started scowling about it. Chanyeol saw that and tried to hug it off. The content of the joke kept the same theme as prior ones, but its delivery didn't come off right. Who knows? For all we know, they could've had a convo after concerning that joke. Maybe they did, and maybe they didn't. To others: Either way, it's between them, Kai can surely stand up for himself, we're just fans on the Internet. He made the comment and it probably wasn't the best place for this one, but people cross lines all the time. Friends forgive, at least. And I say this with a Kai bias, ha ha.

Guys, you need to understand Asia. Skin color has nothing to do with race and everything to do with beauty. They value light skin a lot as a beauty factor, because their past taught them that light skin meant the wealthy, and tanned skin meant the peasants working on the farms (working under the sun = tan). No, Chanyeol was not racist nor colorist in his comment, but valuing a beauty standard. THIS IS STILL BAD, because he is conforming to beauty standards rather than a person's feelings and self esteem, but you guys need to get your facts straight and argue with a good reason that actually makes sense. No, Chanyeol does not see darker skin as literally inferior to humans (like slaves) or hates dark people, but he is showing a bias towards Asia's beauty 'requirements'.
It's kind of like having no acne is beauty, even though there's no helping it, and we all attempted for a life without acne with the use of pills, tons of face wash, etc.; it doesn't mean we're inferior to those who naturally have way less acne, and those people who do have way less acne don't see us a humanely inferior. This is Chanyeol's comment. It's a beauty comment. I AM BY NO MEANS JUSTIFYING HIS COMMENT. It is still wrong, he is hurting Kai, and it should be taught to love yourself as you are, not conform to beauty standards, but at least have some sense and an Asian perspective on it.

All questions for d.o is so interesting! He's so typically January's people XD I also born in january and alot of my friends that born in january exactly just like kyungsoo. We're quite, straightforward (can't lie so well), allergic to all people who are too noisy and too much playing around, too serious (but if we're not in a quite state we could be the most interesting people), sensitive (exactly!!), a good listener, not very funny/playful, BULLYABLE (HAHA) and skilled at the most art things (sing, play instruments, acts, dance, cook, write, and paint). I'm Chinese and I'm very aware that in Eastern Asian countries, dark skin isn't considered attractive. I live in California so naturally I've become pretty tan and whenever I visit China, my relatives are always making fun of my dark skin and they do also sometimes say "oh, when are you getting your skin whitened?". They're my relatives and I love them regardless of anything but it does start to become quite annoying and mean after a while because according to their standards, I'm not as attractive as a paler person. I personally think it's terrible that they base their judgement of whether or not a person is attractive by their skin color, but that's how it is in Eastern Asia. So Kai might have been pretty offended by Chanyeol's comment because we don't know if this was an isolated incident (Sehun looked offended too). Chanyeol could have make the joke multiple times behind the scenes. I don't think that it's fair to give Chanyeol a pass on this because "it's just a joke". And I'm not hating on him, he's my bias and I absolutely adore him. But I do think that it was quite rude of him to say that and it's understandable if Kai and other people are mad. I also don't think it's right to give other people shit who ARE offended. We're all different and there are probably others who have a direct effect to this like I do. I think it's time to stop overlooking these kinds of things and letting them go just because we love them. I'll love and support them, but I'm not going to love and support comments like these because at least in my eyes, it was just simply mean. I'll always be an Exo-L but I feel like I needed to speak out about this because there are so many people in the comments that are just like "oh shut up guys, it's a joke. Don't take it so seriously." And even if Kai is comfortable with it, Chanyeol shouldn't have made it sound like being dark skinned is so bad that you need to get your skin whitened (virtually conforming to their society's ideal image of beauty).
Just to add on: at the end of the day, all this just stems from their society's belief of what beauty should be. It's no different from when girls in America crave for a thigh gap or something. Although, some have tried to combat that through funny tumblr posts that basically say "hey, I'm okay with not having a thigh gap", which is great because it means they're comfortable with their body. However, it seems to me that conforming to society's image of beauty is more prominent in Eastern Asian countries than in America. But that's just my opinion.
