🤫🏆 Learn the Secrets of ELITE Pro Jason Koon: ➡️ galfond.link/KoonVideos
Phil Galfond explains the poker strategy involved when long-time high stakes poker professional (and his personal friend) Jason Koon and super high stakes pro Elton Tsang get into a monster pot and only ONE of them has a huge poker hand!
Recorded during the 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series in Montenegro, this high stakes poker hand was one of the biggest poker pots in the history of televised poker and surprisingly was played just after Jason Koon lost a $2,000,000 pot!
Jason Koon and Elton Tsang were joined at this livestream table by famous poker players like Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Paul Phua, Daniel Cates, Mikita Badziakouski, and Kane Kalas.
If you are familiar with any of those names and their poker play, it’s no wonder the pots were getting this big!

Pretty good river for Jason. I wonder if it brinked whether he was going to bluff or not. I bet he wouldn't have. I know we shouldn't play results but Elton probably should have bet more on the turn. I guess he thought Jason had 2 pair or better but I think with AA/88/77 Jason would have shoved on the flop. The only other hand to be afraid of would be Ax of hearts, and that is definitely in Koon's range. But you have plenty of equity against those hands on the turn.
Betting half pot, Koon isn't making a mistake and if you bet bigger, you are forcing him to make his hand on the river if he is drawing. You might get some folds and deny him equity on the turn.

    • @Fantalope
      @Fantalope Před 4 měsíci

if he bets too big on the turn then his bluff/value shove on the river would be too small, no? 540K into 1.5mil. Too small to fold out villians hand if you are representing a bluff on the river I think. But I dont have the best knowledge on theory

Do you expect Koon to bluff everytime Elton checks to him?? Is there any cards you wouldn't expect Koon to bluff on the river when checked to??

Ironically, Elton ended up playing the hand correctly, as in, betting and raising when he had the best hand (although he thought he was bluffing) and folding when he didn't. In other words, if he knew exactly what Jason had, he would play it the very similarly (would probably jam turn instead of betting large).

You calculate your odds of hitting the river using outs, and then calculate the ratio of the bet you have to call to the pot size. He's got 9 heart outs plus 6 straight outs = 15 outs = roughly 30% chance of winning on the river.

As long as 80% of comments on a Phil Galfond! video are by obvious massive losers, poker is well alive and kicking. 😂

Elton should've just shoved turn. Can easily shove sets there too for value

Great hand, great analysis as usual from Phil Galfond, but I can't watch videos with these stupid Applebee's coasters as chips and not giggle through the whole thing.

I can't believe Elton didn't shove turn or call river. 500k to win 2.5 million pot. You beat every draw except 56.

@@apex1034I think for a few reasons. It lessens the chance of making a mistake with these massive denomination chips, they also look cooler on tv like it’s Casino Royale or something.

I know that it's cooler for the title of your video but that's not considered a 2M dollar hand

Conventional poker wisdom is that you want to just realize your equity with minimal investment, if you have a lot of equity.

My release timeline is 1.5-8 weeks from the date of recording, so it doesn’t make sense for me to do current events.
If you follow me on X, you’ll see me talking current events more often, this included.

That thing at the end is so annoying if regs do that; probing about the other guy's hand while not giving up any info themselves. Just shut up, if the rec wants to talk they will

phil, why you clickbait? its not a 2million dollar pot with a SFD, its a 1.5Million dollar pot with SFD. by the time he makes the pot 2Mil+, he doesn't have a SFD anymore, since all the cards are out.
Jesus how am I supposed to learn anything from this channel if you cant even understand nuance.
