  • My family traveled to Vancouver Island for my 10th birthday. We journeyed through Greater Vancouver from West Vancouver, and across Straight of Georgia to the Island, and were accommodated in Victoria at one of Fairmont Empress' Golden Suites. We toured the city, went on a boat trip to the Salish Sea for a whale watch and admired a number of marine animals such as orcas, humpback whales, elephant seals, sea lions, and dolphins. We enjoy the afternoon high tea at the Empress.
We then traveled to Butchart Gardens and had a great time at the Sunken Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, the Italian Garden and the Star Pond. We also enjoyed Butchart's version of afternoon tea.
Back to downtown Victoria, we visited establishments like the Courtney Room at Magnolia, the Local, Chocolats Favoris, and the Fisherman's Wharf during out stay, and set off for Nanaimo on the north shore of Vancouver Island.
During our 3-day stay at Nanaimo, we visited Pipers Lagoon Park and Neck Point Park for the unique landscape, but what my sister and I enjoyed the most was Maffeo Sutton Park in town. We stopped by Ironworks for a great weekend brunch and the View Oceanside for dinners. Quite some happy memories there.
After a week spent on the Island, we once again crossed the Straight of Georgia on a ferry via a different route and went back home in West Vancouver.
