Yes, I guess they may have felt were it not for Coronation Street there may not have been an Eastenders. Boy the way Tony did Coronation STreet was so different from the Late Irna Phillips who started working on Radio Shows in the 1930's doing Painted Dreams then Guiding Light in 1937. It kind of parallels what happened in 1963 when Two Young Men followed a up and coming Music Mogul into The Bathroom, sang and got a Company Card. Perfectly cast, a brilliant recreation of the birth of one of ITV's bedrock soap operas. Wonderful attention to period detail, it all comes together so well.
Also Bill Roache now has surpassed Don Hastings as the longest running Male Soap Actor of all time (61) years where Don played Dr. Bob Hughes on As The World Turns from 1960-2010 when the show was cancelled.
A great show up until the 90s - and who would have thought the comfort classic Corrie would bring 40 years later to us swiftly approaching old age - almost like watching family when you see these old characters again

Why or how did BBC get to make a documentary/documovie about a Granada/ITV production? Odd. Watching this because it's got Sophia DiMartino from Loki 😂
It was produced by ITV Studios for the BBC. Mainly because the BBC wanted to be invloved and mark the celebrations of Coronation Street's 50th Golden Anniversary. ITV Studios do produce television for other stations. It is not an unusual practice for programmes to be made by one production company for another broadcaster's. The Royle Family was produced by ITV Studios for the BBC. ITV Studios also produced Come Dine With Me and Countdown for Channel 4.
The cast is fantastic, loved they got Sophia DiMartino (Sylvie). I watched being so happy seeing Lynda Baron (aka Aunty Mabel from come outside, nurse Gladys from open all hours). Also Phoebe Nicholls (Polly Wright from the fairytale film and I only recently realised she's the real life mother of Tom Sturridge).
Had no idea of the Canadian connection...but they could have at least found a Canadian actor to play the role of Harry Elton. Christian McKay sounds like a yank, not a Canuck.
Also you really see how much of legacy Men have on UK Soaps. Most of the "Legends" were Irna Phillips who created Guiding Light in 1937 on The Radio then Co-Created alot of other Soaps. Her Two Proteges Agnes Nixon & Bill Bell also did well for themselves. Yet she didn't go through the same Red Tape that Tony went through.
Partly because in Britain they wanted to keep commercials and programming separate, so it didn't undermine the BBC. American soap operas didn't have this problem, and in Guiding Light's case, the company that advertised the products was literally the same comany that produced the show (i.e., Procter and Gamble, a soap detergent company -- which is where the term came from). Also Irna Philips was much older than Tony Warren and more importantly had prior experience in scriptwriting, casting, AND advertising.
