    Tony Warren really was something else. He created Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples, Annie Walker, Ken Barlow, Albert Tatlock and Len Fairclough as well as all the other Corrie originals. He also created the Rovers Return. And he was only 23 when he did it all.

      Yes, I guess they may have felt were it not for Coronation Street there may not have been an Eastenders. Also keep in mind that June Brown had a small part before playing Dot Cotton on EastEnders as well. Boy the way Tony did Coronation STreet was so different from the Late Irna Phillips who started working on Radio Shows in the 1930's doing Painted Dreams then Guiding Light in 1937. It kind of parallels what happened in 1963 when Two Young Men followed a up and coming Music Mogul into The Bathroom, sang and got a Company Card. They auditioned in 1963 then in 1964 they hit the Big Time and became Legends. The Mogul was Berry Gordy Jr., the creator of Motown, and The Two Young Men were Otis Williams & Melvin Franklin (RIP) of The Temptations.

      It was produced by ITV Studios for the BBC. Mainly because the BBC wanted to be invloved and mark the celebrations of Coronation Street's 50th Golden Anniversary. ITV Studios do produce television for other stations. It is not an unusual practice for programmes to be made by one production company for another broadcaster's. The Royle Family was produced by ITV Studios for the BBC. ITV Studios also produced Come Dine With Me and Countdown for Channel 4.

    Also you really see how much of legacy Men have on UK Soaps. Most of the "Legends" were Irna Phillips who created Guiding Light in 1937 on The Radio then Co-Created alot of other Soaps. Her Two Proteges Agnes Nixon & Bill Bell also did well for themselves. Yet she didn't go through the same Red Tape that Tony went through.

    • @WorldNews92
      @WorldNews92 Před 3 lety +1

      Partly because in Britain they wanted to keep commercials and programming separate, so it didn't undermine the BBC. American soap operas didn't have this problem, and in Guiding Light's case, the company that advertised the products was literally the same comany that produced the show (i.e., Procter and Gamble, a soap detergent company -- which is where the term came from). Also Irna Philips was much older than Tony Warren and more importantly had prior experience in scriptwriting, casting, AND advertising.

When it debuted in 1952 on June 30th what a year that was. Bob Horn's Bandstand debuted and it became American Bandstand in 1957 on August 5th that was the same day that Andy Capp The Cartoon debuted. It was the Ninth Birthday of Florence Ballard of The Supremes and the Birthday of Cheryl Ann Tweedy of Girls Aloud (1983), June 30th was also the day in 1948 that Ed Sullivan & His Toast of The Town debuted. Then Cheryl guest stars on Coronation Street and Sarah Harding briefly acts on the show.

    • @laminage
      @laminage Před 2 lety

      @@WorldNews92 I have nothing but made love nd respect for UK TV. I watch more UK Shows than US Shows, I feel that they take on more issues than The US does. Right now on The US Soap Opera Days Of Our Lives, Dr. Marlena Evans is once again possessed and acts all crazy. Also keep in mind that Proctor & Gamble owned the rights to alot of other Soaps. Besides Guiding Light there was Another World that created two one offs, Somerset & Texas, then As The World Turns, Search For Tomorrow & A World Apart. Also keep in mind that until the 1970's alot of women were housewives unlike the UK. In 1967 Gary Pillar moved from Guiding Light as Mike Bauer to Bay City on Another World to get ratings. As for Irna being Older, she created these shows as a form of entertainment. She apparently was very lonely as a child. Either way they are legends and now more than ever US Fans watch UK Soaps and they love them.

    Is there anyone who can’t talk through the end credits on an amazing piece o music , the can’t help it, I watched the very first airing, not a word, ever since talking about some shite that’s coming on next, I had to buy th dvd I was that annoyed

      People talk at the end credits to tell you what's coming next because when something is over people usually just switch over to another channel it's a way of keeping people on your station.
