Technical Computing student here: They don't model heads for a few reasons, 1. Waste of space, there're no mirrors, and even in games like P.T the mirror was just blacked out at the head. 2: Certain cutscenes or movements could cause the camera to go inside the model, making it not a very pleasant experience. 3: Also a waste of time, modelling any human is a good lot of time, having to model a face and all the expressions for Old and Young Blake would be a good amount of time wasted considering you'll never see the face. :D

What about the shadow?
Losttify 运气 As in the shadow that's projected by the character onto the floor? That's a tiny amount of work and detail needed because it's just an outline that changes dependant on lighting. The way lighting onto characters work is not like in real life obviously, they're two different things. Considering you only see the ears or hair, there's no drastic amount of effort or detail needed (in comparison) meaning it's quite brief. The way to make shadows work with lighting and chracters is another story.

Did a quick google search and I found that there is a sound designer, Francis Brus, who worked on all the Outlast games. Seems likely that this is the explanation for Brus-F being written on the camera. Don't know what Spatlin is or why Francis Brus thinks his company is better than them!
I've noticed that Spatlin is the name on the refrigerators, food tins, school copy books etc. Lots of fingers in pies.

Thanks I was very curious as to what was happening behind those doors in the compound. I assume in that scene Knoth was intended to be sitting on the throne and that Lynn would've been somewhere on the floor between him and the crowd
So, apparently in the first Outlast you can see the company name Spatlin on the big cameras inside the theater room where the interview with Dr. Wernicke plays, right after you see the Variant playing on the piano.

Can you explore then that Murkoff Radio-Tower when Blake's recording it, saying "maybe it's civilization" I am actually curious if there's the Murkoff Company Logo on the Building that is making these lights

@@jamesdevine024 years later I'm here to say that I'm one of those. Don't hate the game or anything, just think it's inferior to the first one. The thing I really didn't like are the many forced chase sequences that don't give you room to escape anyway other than a very specific intended way.

Going through the blonde girls head should be a good explanation for why they don't model a head on the player character. I will never unsee that nightmare.
For the head thing, I know for sure that they use a trick where they model a basic sculpt of the player character's head and then make it invisible. Since the model is still being rendered technically, the game casts light on it. That's why you can see the shadow of your head correctly.
I know Miles has one in Whistleblower that was discovered, but I'm not sure if anyone has been able to find Waylon's or Blake's yet (I imagine they reused it since you never break out of first person with any of the Outlast protagonists).

Brus F refers to Francis Brus, and Spatlin is a made up company in outlast that makes many of the items E.G fridges, TVs, and music sheets in the school and its in outlast 1 too, just one of those random things :)

They didn't model the head because it's would be a waste of time - it takes time to sculpt,uv,retopo, texture and animate something as complex as a head and you wouldn't even see it. It's something that would get in the way with camera movements and a waste of poly count
