This is doing my bonce in ! In the last five minutes I've just discovered that Brian Hughes and Mary Bergin both play left handed. I need a pipe ............
I wonder what key they're playing in.... So beautiful!
I would say Bb
@@martinlaird4738 Think you're right. Saw her playing the same tune in the same key on a different whistle, not this Copeland. Is that a whistle player humble-brag? 'my second whistle is a Killarney'. Her collection of whistles must be amazing.
That’s funny… well I love my four Michael Burke whistles. 🤫 Proof that anything is possible each time I play them. I have many others but wow. Phenomenal. Though since I’ve now reached 22 years of playing, I’m considering a Killarney. Or a Lír. Or perhaps a Syn from Australia. Hahaha. Jk, with what $$$??
This is breathtaking! Quite literally, the pipes on these people is very impressive. Can someone tell me what type of flutes they are playing? They have a certain breath'e quality that really intrigues me!
They're (tin) whistles. Joe's made by Overton/Goldie and Mary's by Michael Copeland.
I believe the silver tin instrument (Overton) is producing the breathiness you’re referring to. But every whistlemaker, brand, as well as individual whistle will have its own distinct, different sounds. I prefer a more clear, bell-like, bird call tone myself. Breathy playing can easily ruin a tune, if not handled properly 😊 the embouchre (?) is a big factor with whistles too. If the mouthpiece isn’t fully “closed” within your lips, you’ll get a breathier sound. It’s all in the person.
What's the name of the first tune?
