Even funnier is she treats the fake eyelashes thing like some huge secret, when the other Mane 6 were all there to see her putting on fake eyelashes while they were getting ready for the Gala.
Finally getting caught up! So as noted in the longer patreon comment, this ep has two kind of neat bits of behind the scenes trivia.
As written, the contest wasn't taking place in Canterlot but either Fillydelphia or Manehatten, but some executive that's never done a creative thing in their life said that was stupid, and told them to put the contest in Canterlot. Hence why what was always a few hours trip up a mountain became a more then a day long trip along open, flat plains, and why Donut Joe, who lives in Canterlot, brought his entry for a contest in Canterlot, all the way to Ponyville just to grab some sprinkles and take it back to Canterlot.
Second, there was a scene cut for time at the end where, after Twilight praises her for her self control, AJ breaks down and confesses that she also took a bite of the cake, she was just smart enough not leave any evidence behind.
That wasn't a frying pan attack. That was a spell attack: cast iron.
That painting started without the eyelash, then it's there after Rarity hit it and Pinkie put it back. They did a good job of showing the stuff knowing what it would be.
Also, the deleted scene of AJ saying she took a bite but didn't leave evidence behind is another reason that AJ is best mane 6 pony, along with the fact that her premiere letter to Celestia informs Celestia that she didn't learn anything.
