I wish people would realize the rate of which technology evolved. Animation is faster and more fluid nowadays because of the tools we have today. Yes, the make-up ones are more fluid and expressive but the animators had to make an entire season of Sailor Moon. They didn't focuse on one specific scene to make it beautiful. They had to produce multiple scenes on a budget constraint in a set amount of time.

It's kinda funny how in some respects...the animation in Moon Animate Make-Up is actually way better than the original anime. Not necessarily in quality of the drawing or smoothness of animation, but in the fact that the characters are actually DOING things on the screen, looking around, moving their hands, when in the original they were literally just standing still and saying words.

Ah 90's cartoons/anime, I remember them so. Using as little movement as possible, reusing scenes over and over again, and cheesy English dubbing (for anime). Of course English cartoons had some bad dialog too.

I love moon animate make up so much, it really honestly inspires me. I appreciate every artists section, whether it was artistically beautiful or really funny, to me it all goes together so well, i just love every piece of it. Such a cool and fun project. I really love animation and it makes me want to practice more and hopefully, be a part of the third one, if the creator decides she wants to do it. I never get tired of watching MAM though, to all the artists that took part in the first and second, as well as the creator who put it all together, i am so thankful for what you guys created!! It means so much to me, & thank you for inspiring me

With paint and cels, if you could use one or two cels throughout an entire scene (often times the only cel changing around are the two or three mouthflaps on the mouth layer while the other layers remain stationary), you would save a whole lot of time and money. Its the same reason they use stock footage for everything (It would be interesting to see if master reels of the various pieces of stock footage degraded over the course of their usage in the show).

Actually, I'm a fan of originals (if it comes from Japan, I watch it in Japanese, if it comes from USA, I watch it in English, from Mexico in Spanish, etc.), so I'm saying it's a shame it's not in Japanese.
I don't know why they decided to use the DIC/Cloverway dub rather than the more faithful Viz version of "Usagi Abandoned", but if I were to guess, it would be for more comedic purposes.
Yeah, I'd imagine they used the DiC version for the comedy. Besides, I don't think the second half of the season 1 re-dub was available by the time this video was uploaded.
They didn't use it because "Usagi Abandoned" is sandpaper. The gags of re-animate match up much better with the over the top sounds and music of the DIC version.
I like the Make-Up version more, it was far better in its animation and expressions than the original. There should be a TV series that remakes Classic episodes like this, I bet it would be very popular.

I loved the Moon Animate Make Up. However, I do have to say that maybe they should've given the artists more guidelines. The art style jumped from really beautiful to objectively ugly. I know the whole point was to show different styles but some parts of the animation felt like a joke
Yes, some parts were not fluidly animated and i felt some were made with Paint, or other basic software that nobody should use for such complex things. It just ruins the well made parts...
Alexandra Roceanu Well its crazy hard to make smooth animations, for a lot of artists it takes weeks just to make a 30 second video with smooth animation, plus I've only seen one part of the makeup that looked like it was made with paint, the others are completely fine and seem like they've put a lot of weeks and hours to put together
i have never watched an american dub of sailor moon, I' m a Swede so I grew up with the swedish dub. Sailor Mars sounds just like Nina from Braceface. must be same actor. The scene where Mars pulls out the Moonwand is played different i. the swedish dub, in there she is asked by Moon to carry it for her, a sign of loyal and true friendship, I don't remember how the original japanese told it but the swedub is usually more truw to the original. also this was rather cool to watch,many great and talented artists in here.
The funny squiggly animations fit so perfectly to that FUCKING horrendous crossbred dic/saban dialogue -,- JEBUS but funny as hell that they found a real good use to that failure lol! love it!
I don't like the English dub tbh. When I actually watched the anime awhile back, the English voices were too ... crappy. And WAY off from the originals. I get it was made for kids, but they could have tried to make it better.
