$6 a night, count me in. I am all for saving money. It sounds like fun and adventurous. I didn’t know how cheap Grand Canyon campsites can be. Good job.
The $6 sites do not appear in the reservations section, so I assume they are the walk-up sites which are available at both Mather and North Rim. With all the cost of getting to the Canyon, it makes sense to me to spring for the $18 reserved site, but that is just my opinion.
I will say, I do miss how affordable camping is. Especially in the parks. Great information, GC! You do such a wonderful job at informing everyone about the Grand Canyon.
Room rates at the rim hotels have tripled in recent years, and despite the challenges, I am thinking about going back to camping as I did when I was younger. However, there is also the appeal of a hot bath after a hard hike. . . Thanks so much for watching.

Yes, considering the facilities, I think the prices are reasonable, but it is government owned, so profit is not a motive.

The $6 sites are apparently very limited. I would plan on paying $18, which allows you to choose your site and get an advance reservation. Best of luck on your upcoming trip!

@@HikeNC13 Good luck. End of October, the facilities on North Rim will be closed, (but road and campground open) but I assume you have made shuttle or personal reservations to get back! (but road and I believe campground are open)
Do you have a video about how to get to the GC without driving a car? In other words, how can I get there by bus from the nearest airport? I'd love to spend a few nights there stargazing!
There is a train that runs up from Williams Arizona, but it is more a novelty train trip, and you would have to drive to get to Williams. There is a small airport a few miles away in Tusayan, that is served by the Grand Canyon Taxi for a reasonable fee, $20, I think. There are commercial shuttles that run from Flagstaff, which has a small airport, which might be an option. There are commercial tours from Las Vegas that are popular, and likely could accomdate a few nights on the rim. Once you are at the Canyon, a car is not needed, but in truth, driving to Grand Canyon is probably the least expensive and most flexible way to get there. I hope you are able to make the trip!
What is the most pet friendly rim campground? I was thinking of hiking down to the canyon and up again. In which case I would need to board my dog. Has anyone out there done that?
I have been to both North Rim and Mather when I had a dog, and I found Mather was better, as dogs are allowed on all South Rim trails above the rim, but not on Bright Angel Point on the North Rim.
There is a kennel near Maswik Lodge, I have never visited there. They also rent pet-friendly rooms at Yavapai, so an air-conditioned one might work for your dog, depending on his or her tolerance for staying alone for the day.
I did not hike below the rim when I was there with my dog, so we were able to stay together the whole time.
Please post how it goes so other dog owners can learn your strategies.
