  • This is the new pinecone models sg 1201 pro.
Want to WIN an RC Car for as little as $1/£1?
Check out my current RC Raffles here: raffall.com/beyondrc
A 1/12th scale mini monster truck which is 3s ready, brushless, fast, well built and affordable.. Or is it?
This truck costs £181 or $228 which means it falls into ARRMA Gorgon territory or ARRMA Mega 4x2 territory.
Going for a well known brand does have its benefits which we will discuss in the video and arguably the better option compared to this.
If this was priced closer to £150 I think it may be a better option but at the current pricing and not even including a battery I think it's just a little too expensive.
Get the Pinecone Models SG 1201 Pro here:

It performs great and is a lot of fun on 3s making use of that wheelie bar but is it worth the price tag?

A very good effort by Pinecone models but the catch is definitely the price. At £181 this is around the same cost as the ARRMA 4x2 Mega range and the Gorgon. Yes its quicker than the bigger branded cheaper options but there is more to an RC car than speed. Let me know your thoughts! 💯😎👍

@@beyondRC I think they will. DEERC has a 10th scale, Haiboxing does I believe, with the Rlaarlo Omni Terminator coming next week I think it's inevitable. I do think the crawler first was smart. Especially with Rlaarlo releasing their big crawler soon. If those two can keep the prices in check I think they're gonna cause problems for the big brands. Especially Traxxasss, since they seem allergic to new models. I'm not even acknowledging that snap on joke of a new release even exist.

This is just a rebranded udirc 1201 / 1202. In my experience the problems are with the diffs failing quick due to not being shimmed, mine failed on the brushed model that I reviewed over a year ago. Wasn't until I converted it to brushless and opened up the diff casings I saw broken gears. Parts for the udirc branded one are extremely hard to find as well, not sure about pinecone though. Also for the price no batteries or charger? Ridiculous. Besides the careless diff issue the rest of the truck is reasonably built.

The hbx 2996a or the 2997a are great units with a center diff I have an older hbx unit that the 2996a is built off and it is super durable and I upgraded to brushless. Also I bought the Arrma Big rock for 350 Canadian off Amazon and it is 1000 times better. This unit comes in at 300. Forget it. Glad you feel the same way as us! Love the vids!

Theres pros and cons for me, doesnt come with battery and charger not a problem to me (can see why it would be for some), unlike the arrma 4x2 it has metal diffs (arrmas are expensive) and its brushless whereas the 4x2 is brushed, this one has seperate receiver just in case, but then again arrma has big brand parts availability (well actually... its hard for me to get parts from arrma, it always says part unavailable), but then arrma larger scale rc. So to each is own judgement
The gorgon however is really good in terms of performance since its 4s capable transmission (heard people put higher than that)

The problem is the (lack of) marketing. The rlaarlo omni is gonna be a lot more money for something similar but will be praised anyway.
Rlaarlo aims at the west but I think Udirc/Pinecone don't care too much. Remember there are 1000 million of chinese so their local market is huge already. Plus no shipping charges.
Also, here in Japan I got this for something like 170 usd, while even the lower end arrma have no distributor and are like 200+ for the most basics. This gets close to the 3S line which is like 450 usd (if you find them)
So, well, it depends on each ones circunstancies 😊

I agree it's a bit pricey for that size and brand but a 3660 brushless motor in a 12th scale is something I never saw before, considering this I think the price is OK. At 3000kv it's optimized on 4s with an esc swap (that would make it ''overpowered'').
They also have a cheaper brushed version and I found parts easily doing my little research on it (of course there's a 1 month shipping time delay).
One thing I noticed is that it looks like there's a lot of weight up high and that's a bummer for drivability imo. Good review again keep it up!👍 I really like that you go over more obscure and new unpopular models. There's a hidden gem somewhere waiting to be discovered. 😉
On that note I also saw the sg1403 for around 100usd with a brushed 550 and it got me interested it looks similar to a 1/14th wltoys underneath but seem to be completely different. I would love to see what you think about it.

  • @johnellefa
    @johnellefa Před 4 měsíci +1

A "cheap Chinese car" asking for a higher price isn't a big deal imo, means they're trying to reach into a more premium market, however, makes no sense reaching for there and it doesn't live up to the price.
As for parts for me personally, Arrma, Traxxas, Wltoys, Rlaarlo, regardless of who I purchase from I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks anyway 😅
Once it's available, and the car performs within that price bracket, it's a win for me

some people are looking for something bigger. The MJX hyper range is 1/16 to 1/14 and not suitable for everyone. This is for people who are looking for more than the MJX although I do agree the MJX is hard to beat for value.
