What is remarkable is not that he was picked up so close to the prison, but that it indicates there was NOBODY ELSE helping him. If this was a solo job, then he may be an ideal candidate for the SAS.
Its a shame he didn't make it to Iran. The British taxpayer wouldn't have to pay for his prison stay, the courts wouldn't have to waste time on him and he'd be gone forever. Living his best life in the paradise that is Iran

Not a Tory supporter at all but.... the bottom-line with prisoner escapes is law and order has to get it right 365 days a year 24hrs a day, a prisoner especially someone who has been in the services and might well have active assistance from the outside needs to get it right just once.
