    It's a shame. These addresses, etc., are prepared well in advance of His Majesty, the King or His Regent attending Parliament so there is no reason why subtitles cannot be provided.

    • @Chris-ki6ui
      @Chris-ki6ui Před rokem +3

      No actually it is the government who prepares these addresses. It's a summary of the government's plan for the whole semester that the parliament sits. It's only presented by the crown because it is the representation of the government and the nation. You shouldn't need subtitles unless you're very stoked on Norwegian politics, it's just a bunch of promises for different social and governmental sectors like tax and law and finance and international matters and in this specific speech a lot of focus on the health sector.

    I entirely respect this guy's tenor, respect for the House, and I am sure he is often compared to his grandfather Olav. I have all respect for the monarchy and as for the "rip" of the UK anthem, one must remember how important it is for Norway to see themselves as independent from Sweden, no?

      It's not only Norway (who has 2 anthems I believe), but Liechtenstein, the United States ("My country tis of thee"), and formerly Switzerland who have national anthems or patriotic songs that have notes similar to "God save the King". There may be other countries. I'm just aware of the ones mentioned. I too have respect for CURRENT European monarchies - though not always approbation (I'm not referring to Norway by that). We're of the Nobility and Peerage from the former Kingdom's of Sardinia (1324-1861) and it's successor state, Italy (1861-1946). Our allegiance ceased in 1923 with ascension of fascism (which is trying to reestablish itself via an alt right party). Some are calling for the return of the monarchy to Italy... I think there's a better chance at finding cheese at the center of the moon. I think that's for the best. In 1946 ALL possible male heirs to the crown were exiled, having been allowed to return only thirty years ago. With the Primogeniture (first born) and Secondo geniture (second born) lineage fighting, in the not so distant past, over who the legit heir is. And since Italy is a Republic, Titles of Royalty and Nobility are strictly a matter of personal courtesy and/or history as the judiciary does not acknowledge them.

      @thomasnorb4077 Před 10 měsíci +1

      We don't speak bokmål or nynorsk, those are written standards. We speak dialects. The Oslo dialect is closer to bokmål though, but there is another form, a more conservative written norm. The upper class in Oslo have their own dialect, and it's closer to conservative bokmål or riksmål in some cases (older people).

    • @ruralor
      @ruralor  Před 2 lety +10

      It's the royal anthem. God save the King. It's played only in ceremonies where the King (or the Crown) are present. This is probably inherrited from the UK. The families are closely related.
      We have a separate national anthem, wich is usually played in addition to the royal anthem. In all other situations, where the Crown is not represented, then only the national anthem is played.

      There are pros and cons for everything. I'm not a warm defender of monarchy in princippal. However. There will always be alot of courtecy and ceremony around a head of state. Whether it is a monarchy or republic. The more important divide, atleast for all practical purposes, is between a parliamentary or a presidential system. In a parliamentary system you pay tribute to a non-political symbolic institution, with no real power over anything. In a presidential system you are honoring and submitting to someone with huge political power.
