- A BBC documentary, first broadcast on the 6th September 2016, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Massive Attack's seminal debut album Blue Lines.
The program not only explores Massive Attack's background and formation, but also delves into the burgeoning Bristol music scene of the 1970's and 1980's.
The documentary is narrated by actor Paul McGann, and features new interviews with long term Massive Attack co-writer/producer Neil Davidge, The Wild Bunch's DJ Milo, drum and bass superstar Roni Size and The Pop Group's Mark Stewart. - Hudba
Grant (Daddy G) and his mum used to come and buy fish from a stall that I worked on in Bristol Market around 2002-3. I had no idea who he was, even though I had all of Massive Attacks albums and loved them. He was always really friendly and obviously a popular guy around the neighbourhood. Anyway, longer story shorter, I eventually cottoned on and then one time he slipped me a CD which was a promo press release only copy of 100th Window and said 'keep this for yourself only... don't give it to anyone', gave me a wink and walked off. It was officially released to the world a few weeks later.
that's amazing, do you still have the CD?
Beautiful x
That is such a cool story 😎🤘
He gave it to you because he knew he could trust you with it! Respect 🙏
Do you still have the CD
They’ve done the miles.
Fuck me, I've been calling the song unfinished symphony for 25 years!
HAHAHAHA
With ya there
Duuude...
Same the title is a pun.
Wait....that's not what it's called? :D
Blue Lines is the best album ever….period. Ran across this CD in the early 90’s when I was in Santa Cruz and was blown away by it…still am.
The Bristol Sound made me move to Bristol from Cambridge. Ten of the happiest years of my life. Lived in Easton BS5 when the tabloids labelled Stapleton Rd “the most dangerous street in the UK”. Absolute rubbish, it was lovely and chilled! I live in Wilts now, up the M4, but my dentist is still in Henleaze as it gives me an excuse to return and reminisce lol. Love you Bristol, always will!
Uruguay.
This was great!
Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead forever! Definitely somethin in the water!
A great and brilliant track.
good taste dude !
The Holy Trinity. Respect
RIP mark stewart, the scene in this city wouldn't exist without you.
Massive Attack was absolutely life changing for me. When I heard “Mezzanine”… it blew my mind open. The music bits own was totally singular and innovative… but having the ear to recognize Horace’s unique gift … and showcase it , was brilliance. It created something completely new.
Still probably the most groundbreaking band of the last 40 years.
This is real music, this is art in its purest form
I'm American, and I admit that CZcams like 5 years ago is where I stumbled on MA. Glad I did.
Musician. Dr Andy Keep (Bath Spa Uni) took me to the dugout. I then invited my college mates Marc Picken and Andy Phipps. Mark became MA’s manager,(and my daughters godfather),Andy became Banksy’s assistant. This all happened! Live the life, the life you love.
I was just a witness , I did my own s%^T. I was working as a stagehand at the hippodrome and drank with this narrator Paul McGann at Renatos., honestly I couldn’t make this up.
When they played in Toluca, Mexico at 2:00 am I swear a shooting star flew by in the night full of stars. Magical moment
qué afortunado!, me hubiera encantado ido a verlos también
u were probably on druqs.
Now i know where and when should i've been born.
now i know where and when i ve been born
before
So proud of my Bristolian roots.... Love Bristol
One of the greatest cities on Earth! I lived in Easton BS5 for 10 years to 2011. Shame about all the craziness with Colston statues since then. But I’ll always love Bristol 🥰
just a genious band, one of a kind - love Massive from start
that time you met people without phones. spontaneous happenings en masse.
Love you guys. Great Doc.
Massive Attack with Bristol did huge thing to us in New Zealand. Basically top 40 was for children only.
Thank you!
i miss it looking like this. i wanna go back.
LOVE MASSIVE ATTACK!!!!!!
I remember when they came out, around the time of the 1st Gulf War they dropped the word "Attack" and were only known as "Massive". Also, Shara Nelson should have been a superstar. Heard she is not so well healthwise.
One of the very first forced virtue signals.what a band.
beautiful
One of my all time favorite groups with Mezzanine being an ESSENTIAL album for me - I had heard about the "Bristol sound", but had no idea these guys went that far back! This is early-mid 80s. That's the same timeline as Run DMC and Beastie Boys!
Now their track "Any Love" makes perfect sense to me

Wicked classic windmills at 13.05

aw man... I was born too late in the wrong city !! love these guys
Like 1000 reached..yay
This is way more about the Bristol scene then the actual band and the making of the album.

What's the song at 12:05?
Anyone know the track that starts at 6.38?
I was waiting for the story of how they met Shara Nelson
What song is it at 18:46?
3d is banksy
Could be…
Mark Stewart, The Pop Group.
Any idea of all the background songs? Any?
safe from harm, unfinished sympathy, i think they’re all from blue lines the album
✌️
Why did they fall out with the singer Sasha?
🌎🌍🌏🌐🌊🔱
Young Banksy was a lower case g.
I write from Argentina 'm an admirer of your art , I feel great. In one of your videos I could see a picture of Maradona , this is due to " the hand of God "? You set it to generate some kind of adverse sentiment against England?
Del Naja es holandés y italiano, de ahí karmacoma; Jamaica and Roma
Plus he's a huge Napoli fan. I doubt it was a negative reference...
esto dice wikipedia, Del Naja was brought up in the Bishopston district of Bristol. His father is an immigrant from Naples in Italy and as a result Robert is a passionate supporter of the S.S.C. Napoli football team, as well as Bristol City, 3d del naja y el diego un solo corazon.
En cual video?
Kind of a piss poor documentary actually!
BBC Documentaries rarely have much information in them, for some reason. Oh well, Blue Lines is a bit overrated anyway. It's good, but overrated. Half of it is just samples that already got used by EPMD and people like that.
I'm sure you could do better.
Okay, let's see you do better.
yeah ahreed its quite shit. the blonde woman is fucking lame. also mezzanine was miles better than blue lines
@@rogda123 Contentious !! Both great albums, but better than Blue Lines?? I don't know, Mezzanine was perhaps more 'polished' but for me the rawness of BL blew me away in 91 and still does to this day.
Disgraceful. Hardly anything said about the great vocals and unrivalled contributions of Shara Nelson
Good band but have got way too political in their older years. To the point of ramming it down your throats on giant screens at their shows.
