I met my wife again through MiiTomo before we started seeing each other, so we look back fondly on MiiTomo for that reason, despite it being gone now. Video games are great for connecting with others. :)

Reminder: Current day Harvest Moon is more or less just Natsume trying to cash in on the name recognition after Marvelous stopped using them as a publisher in the US. The "proper" Harvest Moon games are called Story of Seasons these days.

Yes, and if anyone wants to know: it's easier to find them if you look for "Boku Mono" (short for the Japanese name Bokujo Monogatari). The last Boku Mono game called Harvest Moon was A New Beginning
I ALSO wrote a comment about this because the fact that it's been almost 10 years since that happened and people still don't know drives me freakin insane - but not at the people who don't know, at Natsume. Hopefully Peebs sees the comments and gets his hope renewed in the games bc they mean so much to him 🥺

It is, however am I the only one who thinks that the more recent story of seasons games looking a little lackluster? (Not talking about FOMT but that’s a remake anyways...)
I remember telling stardew valley's creator that the game helped me go through dark times and receiving an answer a few days later on how it mattered to concerned ape that their game had such positive impact

Over 1000 hrs and I’m still playing. Easily my favorite game purchase

I've told this story before, but I'll tell it again. Back when I played the first Sims game, I hated waiting for my character to come home from work. So I created 2 "main" characters, and two "work" characters. The workers slept outside in a fenced area with no bed, toilet, fridge, or anything. I only fed them when I had to. While they worked I had fun leveling my main characters. For some reason, it never occurred to me back then that I was simulating slavery lol.

Sometimes I move into Sims' houses so I don't have to pay for it and then I'll ignore them except to make sure they go to work.
In Sims 3 Pets, I enslaved all my cats. They had to hunt so my sim could live his wildest dreams. After realizing what I did, I stop playing sims and haven't played since.

@@DaveMeansDave if it’s any consolation, I don’t feel guilty because I knew it wasn’t real. We all have our boundaries though. Games that have real character development is where I draw the line. I don’t abuse characters like that. But in sim city I’ll send a tornado through a city in a heartbeat.

Glad someone mentions Fantasy Life, genuinely a fun, cute little game. Made by the team behind Professor Layton and composed by Nobuo Uematsu.
Just be sure to not bring you dog while travelling around the Napdragon.
That was the hard lesson I had to learn to frequently save your game and always have a Life Cure on stock ;-;

When I first saw Fantasy Life at my local gamestore years ago I actually didn't buy it because it looked too good to be true. It was everything I was looking for in a game and I figured it couldn't possibly be that. Then a few years later my boyfriend at the time bought it for me as a surprise and I fell in love with it, I couldn't believe how good it was. One of my favourite games of all time hands-down.
As somebody who usually doesnt like life sims: Fantasy life definitly is that one exception for me. I played 100s off hours in it and I dont understand why. When I look at it I think why do I enjoy it so much. But just typing this still gives me the itch to pick it up and not sleep tonight and play fantasy life instead.
And thats from somebody who doesnt enjoy games like stardew, harvest moon or animal crossing.
@@jeltevl8868 Fantasy Life doesnt really have like days with time limits, plus it does have combat and simple and fun minigames, also characters are just good? like i remember being sad when i finished it cuz it was over. there wasnt more with them.
so maybe all that contributes?
I'm disappointed that no Story of Seasons games made it or got mentioned when talking about the new fake harvest moon, they're lovely.
I played the first two when they came out, but to me they just felt like they didn't improve on anything the old HM games did. No big new features, stock characters with new faces, nothing innovative. I honestly don't think they hold a candle to Stardew Valley. Of course the new ones might be different, but I don't feel like trying those anymore.
FUUUUUUCK all of the new HM games though.
@@kuchenjaeger2164 That's the problem with the entire life sim genre now though, nothing even comes close to being as good as Stardew Valley.
I was thinking the same. Even if he thinks that the Story of Seasons games are not as good as the old ones, it is a bit unfair to compare them to the Natsume games that are really lackluster and say that the whole franchise is bad nowadays. Marvelous still does amazing farming games but largely gets ignored when discussing Harvest Moon. Maybe Pioneers of Olive Town will change that as it is the first HM/SoS non-handheld game in a long time. I am really looking forward to it.
@@kuchenjaeger2164 I wouldn't say Stardew Valley is particularly innovative either, honestly mechanically I'd call it worse than your average Harvest Moon game too (real Harvest Moon, not the fake ones developed by Natsume.) The main big advantage it has is multiplayer and a bit more direct farmland layout customization.
But at the same time I can't help but find it feels dated to actually play in some regards, like you can tell the developer liked Back to Nature the best, because Stardew takes a lot of of queues from that game, even the stuff that's pretty tedious and unfun (especially early on.) It's also a little disappointing that Stardew Valley only has like 5 Marriage Couples of each sex and despite the loads of updates it got they never added any others (it doesn't help that most of the male options are meh,) ditto for not having any kind of real child aging beyond the toddler stage, which is something newer Harvest Moon games expanded beyond.
But at the same time, I mean there hasn't been a full on Story of Seasons game since the 3DS, not counting the remake of Mineral Town either, (which played it very faithfully for better or worse,) so we haven't gotten a proper console level Harvest Moon since... Animal Parade (which is actually among the best in the series too.)

I adored Fantasy Life and I was so disappointed that it never took off.

I've been excited since they announced that it was in development
Excited but my only gripe is that a lot of the non-bachelorette NPCs are more attractive than the ones we are given.
I've been interested in the series for a while and decided to hold out for 5, so I'm pretty psyched.

Harvest Moon is still alive and still really fun. It only is renamed as Story of Seasons now. And a new one was just announced.
Maybe if we all reply hard enough he'll notice. I'm very excited for Pioneers of Olive Town myself.
Does he not know that the official Harvest Moon games are Story of Seasons now? He has to know that, right? I've always just assumed he didn't like the Story of Seasons games.. for some reason. Personally I think they've been fantastic. Story of Seasons and SoS: Trio of Towns specifically. Edit: For the record, the last official Harvest Moon game that was actually called "Harvest Moon" was Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning. Every official Harvest Moon after that has been Story of Seasons

Super happy to see Fantasy Life on this list. Definitely one of my favorite, if not my top favorite life sim games. Sunk a stupid amount of time into it and did basically everything there was to do.

one of my favorite life sim games is a “hidden gem?” called “Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon”.
I love that game too~ you don't hear much about it.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say this is one of the best life sim games, but it has helped me destress a lot recently. I’ve recently gotten my first job and also currently working on graduating high school so to just relax and vibe I’ve been playing cattails a lot recently. It’s like stardew valley but you vibe as a cat and there’s gang wars. What else do I need to say.

I highly recommend Littlewood to anyone who likes stardew valley. It is a very fun farming sim, but you get to build a whole town instead of just the farm, and you get to decorate all your townsfolks houses it is really good and I highly reccomend it.

I agree that the Sims 1 had by far the best soundtrack in the series. Maybe it's just because of the hours I poured into it as a kid, but it always had such a fun, relaxing, and nostalgic vibe that the other music in later entries just couldn't capture

New Leaf was definitely the peak of Animal Crossing and I just hope that New Horizons will one day be able to be as well-rounded as New Leaf was ❤️

My Time in Portia is a fairly good life sim, if a bit rough around the edges. It’s based more around construction than farming, and I like that there’s several commissions that improve the town. There’s a sequel in the works, My Time in Sandrock. And they’re dumping the company who did the console ports, so hopefully it’ll actually be playable at launch. XD
I would love to see more of Rune Factory. I've been interested ever since you mentioned it in the Animal Parade video!
I remember your princess game video from a few years ago, it made me try the game and raise my own princess. Unfortunately she and God both hated me and called me a terrible parent so I want that time back.

Fantasy Life was an impulse download for me that ended up being one of my favorite games on the 3DS! I spent so many hours on the game, I’m so glad to know peebs likes it too haha
Seriously such a good game and if it doesn't get a sequel it at least deserves a switch port maybe then it will get the attention that it deserves

This is one of the first PBG videos I've watched in a long time. I've been a huge fan ever since 4th grade but high school has gotten in the way of a lot of my CZcams watching. Now, coming back as a junior in high school, the nostalgia, humor, and charm are exactly how I remembered. Thank you for bringing a little bit of happiness into my life over the course of these 7 years. :)
Great video! Loved seeing the footage from different versions of The Sims. I’ve played all of them over the years and it was a huge nostalgia trip. I watched the Arthur stream and legit thought I was going to pee myself laughing. The full video is on his twitch channel and I highly recommend it.

I'd love to see a Rune Factory: Frontier video! I spent countless hours as a kid playing through that game, and it was my first ever Harvest Moon-style life sim game! (My first life sim game ever being Animal Crossing: Wild World)

I do hear good things about Rune Factory but for me I like my life simulators just about life. I don't want it to mix in RPG elements. Hence why Harvest Moon or now Story of Seasons will always be my number one. :) also the only Sims I ever got into were My Sims.

I'd love to see a full video about Rune Factory Frontier!! I've been a fan of HM/RF all my life and RFF has always been my favorite for all its quirks and oddities. Selphy best girl 10000/10 would jump into book for her again.
