- The best trails we have found in national parks are always the less than popular and unknown trails. Syncline Loop in Canyonlands National Park is a trail we will not soon forget. Starting at Upheaval Dome, Syncline Trail drops into the canyon and loops the crater for an amazing 8.3 mile (or 10 mile) hike through some of the most beautiful and tough terrain Canyonlands has to offer.

Very sad that a 23 year old woman and her 52 year old father died on this hike yesterday. While sad I am baffled at their decision making knowing that we here in Utah have been under an Excessive heat warning for the past several days and after reading that sign they still chose to attempt the hike.
It's unfortunate that they probably set out thinking they could simply hike just 1 mile to see the overlook, only to end up getting lost right at the start. It's a sad situation, but it's a reminder of how important it is to take hiking seriously.
Very sad, they are from my hometown.
YES!! I’ve done this trail twice, it is one of my favorites. It’s ABSOLUTELY strenuous, but it takes you through sooo much it’s worth it!
You two were fun to watch, thanks for sharing! Glad you’ve been experienced.
Great vid! A few months back we did this the opposite direction (counter-clockwise)... your comment made us laugh when you said you were glad you didn't go the opposite direction... tru dat! Climbing that hill at end for us was just brutal... To others, bring lots of water!
Really well-done video on what is probably a grueling but beautiful hike. Very informative and intriguing at that the same time. I'm adding this to my list of things to do in that area. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the great video, looking forward to the hike probably next week!
Have fun and bring extra water! Thanks for watching 😀
Great video of an amazing place. Glad I'm not the only one who kept wondering where the end was.
Beautiful video...we just returned from three weeks in UT and CO...this video brings great memories of Canyonlands! Keep traveling safely!
Just did this hike but in the opposite direction. It is a great hike, and I agree with your toughness rating of 7.5 out of 10). Like you two, near the end, we were dragging. For anyone who does this trail, I recommend pack as if you might get stuck there overnight, this way you’ll have enough water and enough calories. I also had a reflective umbrella from outdoor research that I attached to my backpack near the end. Made a big difference. Other things that can help with the heat are a spray bottle with water, a cotton shirt (yes cotton so that your sweat stays longer and keeps you cooler; in the desert, cotton doesn’t kill), a cotton washcloth (to have wet on your head) or cotton hand towel (wet on your neck). A desert guide I know also brings a large fan, in case he has to cool someone fast and had already done all the other things.
I love your advice on the cotton. Can"t stand most synthetics in the heat. Also, being prepared to be out over night is also good advice in an environment like this. More water and more food is always a good thing to have. We did ok finding shade but I will try to always have some kind of way to create some shade while on the trail. Thank you for your advice! Happy hiking to you.
The properties that make cotton dangerous in cold weather make it great in hot weather.. dousing a cotton hat and a cotton t-shirt in water will keep you cool for a half hour or more.
Beautiful! Many years ago my wife and I were driving back to town from the Canyonlands Needles district down south of Moab, and the road from the main highway to the park was literally covered in antelope like y'all saw. Easily a few hundred of them. Such a gorgeous place! Beautiful photography!
That would be incredible! We have had a few bison experiences like that but never with any other animal. We felt very lucky to see the small herd in the canyon.
Excellent video. Stunning trail. Thx for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Wow, looks like an absolutely stunning trail! Theres something about the southwest red soil with blue skies that makes the area look so magical! And those little sheep! So cool to see, seems like an amazing trail!
This trail is absolutely amazing. We also feel a certain magic in this area and keep coming back for more! Thanks for watching.
YES! Definitely bring double the water you think you need, the trail is longer than you’d expect, they mean it when they say “strenuous”, and don’t get too hopeful hahaha after the rock scramble when you do a quick ascend I usually lose power and just pray for the end. STILL plan on doing this trail for the third time in the next few months. The diversity is amazing and I can usually knockout most of an audiobook 😂
People don't visit because its inconvenient to them ;-) I love it
Those are the best places. If you do see someone, you know they really want to be there and they are awesome.
Just did this Trail a few days ago, so glad we downloaded an offline map !!!
Nice video! Stumbled across it while looking up this hike. BTW hummingbirds aren't actually black, although it probably looked that way in the light. Look up iridescence in hummingbird feathers; it's amazing!
cool vid guys, when we were in Zion we snuck up on a herd of young mountain goats like that, It was so cooooL. I couldn't believe the jump that one took on your vid, WOW.
They were so cool to watch! Best thing that could happen on a trail is to see some animals you didn't know you were going to see.
That looks like an awesome trail! What time of year were you guys there? It looks hot!
It was definitely getting hot the last few miles! We hiked this first week of June.
Great video! What was the approximate cumulative total time for camera setups/takedowns.
Thank you! Some shots take just a couple minutes. Others a lot longer. If we did not film this hike I think we would have shaved about an hour off our time. Setting up the camera is a little bit more work but it is one more reason to stop and look around at the amazing scenery we are hiking through.
@@SOSASATSUNRISE Thank you. It helps when you are both on the same page with respect to creating.
Consider checking out/filming at Gold Butte NM in Nevada, specifically the Little Finland area. Otherworldly.
We will check it out! Thanks for the suggestion. 😀
It’s beautiful trail! I just didn’t not get what was the climax of it )))
I agree there was not much of a payoff on this trail. Just nearly 10 miles of adventure and views the whole way. If you wanted to hike something shorter with a feeling of a climax to the hike, you could go clockwise like we did and turn around once you got a good view of the canyon about 2-3 miles in. Thanks for watching!
A kangaroo rat!! They used to have a display about them in the Arches visitor center. Also free water available there!!
Thanks for the water tip! We filled up at Island in the Sky visitor center. The kangaroo rat was really cool to see but.. it ran over my foot.
