    vimoh's video in short
A controversy arose involving Keerthi History and Audrey Truschke, who wrote a book on South Asian history. Truschke, in a lecture, mentioned she doesn’t focus on dynasties like the Gupta or Chola because many other historians already do, preferring to explore what life was like for ordinary people.
Keerthi History cut a clip from this lecture, presenting it out of context to suggest that Truschke dismissed the Gupta dynasty’s achievements entirely. Keerthi History then highlighted the Gupta period’s accomplishments, such as the invention of the decimal system, in an attempt to refute Truschke.
Two main issues with Keerthi History’s video are:
    1. Attributing achievements like the invention of the decimal system directly to the ruling dynasty is misleading, as these developments often reflect broader societal progress rather than just the rulers’ actions.
    2. The video misrepresented Truschke’s lecture by taking her comments out of context, potentially driven by personal bias against her.

Guptas were as important to India's history as Tang or Han dynasty of Chinese history. Sanskrit changed from Vedic Sanskritam to Dhrupadi Sanskrit. Trade roots were expanded, agriculture flourished, decentralized civil administration came to existence, Nalanada Baudh Bihar strengthened study of Buddhist philosophy, Hindu philosophy and astronomy. Trigonometry with Bhaskara 2's sine approximations were derived. Courts were divides from district to province level. So yeah Guptas are important. As an indian atheist who loves his nation than any religion, I will say that Guptas have importance in indian history. Similarly we must keep in mind that Guptas enjoyed prosperity as the Muarians and Shungas strengthened agriculture and rule of law. But some evil practices like Varna discrimination, Sati came into existence in late Gupta period which was not cool at all.

After the Mongol attacks when the Mongol Yuan dynasty ruled China, they repaired and restored many buildings. Same is case for Japan. The Ashikaga Shogunate rebuilt structures of Kamakura Shogunate and Hojo Clan even after defeating and destroying their clans. Same was case for the Tokugawa... they didn't destroy all castles of their enemies... infact Tokugawa Hidetada rebuilt many of those broken castles. For example read more than one book on Eurasian civilization and come to an conclusion by yourself. Don't you think that the Success of the Nalanda University had anything to do with the then Ruling Empires who provided good enough atmosphere for it's growth.

Same could be said of the Mahabharata like everything written there is one big allegory or moral dilemma. But still they claim through this allegory the divinity had tried to guide mankind to a stable and ordered society. There are also those who argue that religion doesn't create morality but rather it enforces morality to all because a common folk is not literate enough to contemplate the moral dilemma and thought. Thus they claim religion is completely different from science as it is a tool to express philosophy, simple moral guidance to dilemma and general way of living life and establishing stability and social relations in the society. I know this is very rare inainstream religion but I still see it happening. A hindu once said to me that he takes mahabharata and ramayana as philosophy and not literal history or literal truth. I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.

If Keerthi thinks history should only be told from the native's point of view (which is not really a bad thing), then we'll have to take the Itihaas and Puranas literally. You know... the books that talk about Samudramanthan or a large scale war between Devas and Asuras or an army of humanoid monkeys or any other such mythological stuff. And the fact that she doesn't even considered historians like Thapar or Habib as "natives" is kinda hypocritical.

Brahamavad developed after 8th century as a religion and replaced Budhism and Jainism due to royal patronage maybe.

There are different ways to approach history, but i dont agree woth the view that history is solely about the natives. Afterall, you won't find the history of red Indians in American history, or say, the Australian aborigines or New Zealander Maoris, would you ?
It's equally important to study who ruled the country.
There are two ways a society changes: one way is bottom up where change starts from the ground root upwards, for example the spread of Buddhism or for that matter, any religion.
Then there's another change that is imposed from top down. Like institutionalising the caste system within state by the 1871 census and state employment policies of British, or the Mansabdari and Zamindari system of Mughals.
Without understanding the background and influences of the rulers, you won't be able to understand what actually caused a top-down change in society.
Now whether Guptas were great or not, i leave it to the individuals to decide. But as far as cultural renaissance and achievements are concerned, Guptas have contributed much more to our tangible anient heritage than any other ruling class.
The reason why everyone knows the name of Kalidas or the existing ancient ayurvedic texts, it's because of the Gupta's patronage.
They may not be the sole contributors to Indian heritage, but let's not belittle them by discrediting their achievements.

The person who didn't study say Physics after 10th grade, usually doesn't pretend to be a Physicist publicly. But the problem with History is even an engineer by training can publicly pretend to be a Historian! History is a serious subject and it has its own methods of study. Any person who is interested in History should first study Historiography. Otherwise they will be confused between Literature and History. History tries to model the past of human civilization as Economics tries to model the present. As Economics does not always have to be normative, History also has no obligation to be inspiring. But contemporary politics always tries to mend the native history in a way that suits their purpose. This is a trap. We need to free the study of native History from politically motivated ambitions of its natives. It is true for every society, not only for India.
