DUDE!..........DUDE!! I'm 67 years young. I played percussion/drums since I first watched Buddy Rich on the Tonight Show when I was 5. Three years ago I chemically burned my feet, ending my passion for playing the kit. It's been a slow process shaking off the depression. I've worked with some fantastic bass players and so a month ago I decided to listen to my heart and take up the bass. Dude! What a testament of the human spirit to overcome adversity! I'm loving your jam. Rock on Dude, Rock On!!!
Salute to the bass player. I'm a disabled musician myself, but it doesn't mean that we can't make great music. I have seven CDs under my belt. I wish I knew you where you were located, because I wouldn't mind having you in my band, to do some recording. Keep it up. I'm very impressed make music.
Man, massive respect to you. And I guess the algorithm suggested your video to many of us recently, because I am seen many recent comments. Keep the great job!!!
This is my favorite Yes album and Chris Squire is my all time favorite bassist. You really blew this out of the water. I wish Chris was here to listen to you play this. He would be ecstatic just like ! am. Fabulous!
I lived this album...(not listened) thru my teens and 20s...Thanks for reminding me what a gem it Truly is and what an incredibly creative musician Chris Squire was and is.....
Great job! I was already old when I finally learned it and I admit I struggled a little, some parts mix weird with the vocal harmonies. Anyway, you did great. I am so pleased to see younger players A} Play SO well and B} Take up the Chris Squire mantle. He was my favorite since 1975. Keep up the great work! Never stop, never quit practicing! ps: I'm envious beyond words at the hair. Sure miss having enough hair to justify growing it back out.
I mostly prefer metal over rock, but Chris Squire is my favourite bassist as well, absolutely no contest. About the hair -- it was awesome, but absolute hell to keep under control, haha :)
Danke dir.
Saludos Desde Argentina.
Everyone on this platform should see this!!! My eternal favorite album too! Honestly I have always thought it sounded like 2 bassists (tho knew it was just bass god Squire)!
Un fuerte abrazo y mi like.
Bravo! You did a wonderful job! Chris would be so proud. You definitely should send this video to Alan White or Billy Sherwood, they will call you back for sure! Best wishes from a fellow bass player from Brazil
My cousin had a son born with an arm not unlike this. He won 3 Olympic gold medals in special Olympic hockey. He told his dad once when my cousin was tying his skates up that.... 'who was going to tie my laces when I get in the NHL?' Some people are just truly born special in ways you don't expect.
Respect - great job! A side note - in 1948 Les Paul (yeah, THAT one) was in a car accident and his right arm was shattered. The docs couldn't reconstruct the elbow, so he had them set the arm permanently at an angle that let him still play guitar. He went on to record his best selling work after that. Keep it up - you rule!
You're nuts bro, this is my dream song to play. I recently picked up the bass again, only because of the inspiration chris gave me. May just be me, but 6:03 has to be one of the rawest bass riffs in history.
I agree Niel, that section they hook up so well to make that prominent. But that is the essence of Chris' playing isn't it? The fact that he sort of visits each players feature and provides a support to emphasize the point and then on to the next and so on! As a drummer that's the kind of bass player I love playing with! A guy who knows where to go to get out of the way but still in the thick of it! Great playing Niel! This is the first of your videos I've seen. I'll go look at more now! 🤘💀🤘
You not only played it, one take, no edits ( my fav way), man, you got the tone right on!! I subscribed because you've got the right stuff! And I love this album! 🤙
I love Yes and close tot the edge is one of my favorite and your bass playing is fantastic. I love the bass. I'm a bass player myself ,But I'm not as far as you are yet. Thank you !! Chris Squire would be so proud !!
I find myself revisiting this video as often as I revisit the album. absolutely awesome, definitely going to be using this video as a reference when I finally learn it.
Excellent groove and intonation, you were born to play that bass! Are you a gigging pro? If not, you should be! (I played bass pro for 20 years, also pro guitar for 10 and drums/percussion for 10.) I'm old... I may still have 4 complete limbs, but I'm so effing arthritis ridden; I sincerely envy your youth! :) Don't waste it, stay busy! ;) Edit: Have you ever listened to your 'ghost' and 'turnaround' at 1.25x speed on YT settings? What do you think? They're great as is, but really come alive cranked like that. Just a thought... :)
Nope, I have not played live ever since school. But I plan to change that. Also, thank you for checking out my old self-composed stuff. You get more energy out of those tracks with higher speed for sure, but I had already trouble enough playing them as is, haha :D I don't think that those recordings work well beyond showcasing a proof of concept, my hope is to record in a much more professional context some time, with me being able to focus on bass playing only.
Credo che questa musica fosse stata scritta per durare più di una stagione. È bello vedere un giovane che, dopo cinquant'anni, la conosce, la studia e la suona. La tua esecuzione poi è perfetta. Grazie veramente!

Love the sound of a fretless bass. Glad to see there are still young players out there playing real music. Your timing is tight, and precise.
Well done...and thank you for giving those of us with two hands zero excuses. 👍
Most people don't seem to realise that you're doing this on a fucking fretless. You rule dude.
I caught it. He’s a badass.
Are those just placeholder markings instead of actual frets? I didn't know that was a thing!
@@zoltanszabados8445 Can't spell "badass" without "bass" 😎🎸

Brilliant! Nice to hear young people stil listening to Yes!

Thanks so much for sharing this. Wow, really fantastic!
Wow, awesome! I know Chris is giving you a big thumbs up.
Blowing my mind. Miracles do happen!👍
Bad ass song... One of my faves 🎼🎵🎶🎶🎶

Bravo! Young people, listen and learn!
Bravissimo!!
Nailed it
Let me re-state: one of the baddest bass part outside of Bach. Nailed it
get this kid a Rick fast!
Totally agree
Yes he needs a Rick!!!!
Nah this rules with the fretless tone.
There are those that wish they could, but don't cause they think they can't. Then there's those that DO.
Brilliant. Well played sir.
RIP Chris Squire.
The world needs more skilled prog musicians in Ved Buens Ende shirts, great playing!
Impecable precision in tuning. Wow
amazing cover. great tone and what seems like perfect timing.
Fantastic bass lines! You are playing YES !? Bless your heart...

Aha! I hear some mistakes! Aha! At least two! Fantastic stuff.
You play some bold notes there my man❤
I marvel at your virtuosity. Chris nods his approval from on high. Bravo, Sir!
Your intonation was so good, that it actually took me a while to realize that it really was a fretless bass !
It is not.
bro, why?))) the frets are here
@@enkiituYes it is.. They're marked but there is no fret
@@enkiituyeah it is, lined fretless.
@@enkiitu It definitely is a fretless. There are even slides, especially early on.
I think it is absolutely Brilliant, good sound, it grinds for a fretless which sounds awesome, also try a Rickenbacker stereo

@@naut6606 Thanks. In my opinion, the reason the bass riff at 6:03 hits so hard is all Bruford's drumming.
