Thanks for a great vid. Abt the keyboard. I have a Wooting and had the same problem with no arrow keys, but I could remapp the lower right keys which I hardly use anyway as arrow keys. Worked great for me :)
Thanks, Lee. I need to update my Pi 5 to do that !
This rly NICE. Install system on PCIe SSD is so hard.
They added network install in at the end of January for Pi5. I made a video about it on the 25th Jan
Not sure how I’ve not seen it before now
@@leepspvideo that’s OK trying to keep eyes on everything Pi related is a full time job. Just like the new 15” Pi designed LCD monitor that coming soon (which looks great) If you blink you miss that it’s showing up in a few videos on CZcams last week. Along with the Pi AI camera and the NVMe hat for the Pi 5. They’ve all been spotted. Can’t wait for them to officially announce them.
Confirm, used it in March when I installed mine. Can get anytime by holding shift at boot.
Bugger, I just sacrificed a SDCard last week to bootstrap to NVMe. Oh well, I know for next time.
@@PaulGrayUK I needed to use a wired keyboard. My USB one got ignored. Thanks for the hint though.
At 1:54 the screen looks like the flag of Poland (top half white, bottom half red). Incidentally, the opposite would be the flag of Indonesia.
Like the bottom placement of your ssd variant. Will try it some day.
This is what I explained to you about a month or so ago when I was trying to dual boot using pinn. Now I know what it does 👍
I just picked-up a Cooler Master SK622 60% low profile Bluetooth RGB keyboard with Red Keys ... Awesome!😎
Thanks Lee for the Raspberry Pi V update video ! Good to constantly improvements, now if my brain would only keep up…my attempts to overclock just gave me a headache…😢! Must be using the wrong liquid…😂!
Have a great day!
Nice vid and informative on the new bootloader. Thanks.
Excellent video Lee, thanks for the content.
Awesome, glad I haven't bought a ras pi 5 yet, I still only have the 4b 8gb. but I do wan't one of these, thanks for the video
I also use the curser keys a lot, so no go for me
Nice switch to the camera (:
About time!!!
OK, LOVE this CZcams channel, have really learned and done a LOT. I must say though, you might wish to state or reference at the very start, that after this new firmware/eeprom update is installed, in order to get the new installer to pop up on the screen, you MUST be using a wired keyboard. I plugged one in, BAM! Just like that. But I also had the Logi wireless keyboard and mouse prior....no go, so can you comment on that aspect, or advise why your video show it working?
A good update as I too have used network update on Pi 4s and wasn’t aware of ram speed issue on 8gb when over clocked. I would still like to see an update that allows boot order to use usb before NVME drive so an alternate os can be used on a usb ssd
I wonder if Ventroy would work on a pi
Tested USB connected SDD speed using Accessories>diagnostics. Then did a update and upgrade and sudo rpi-eeprom-update -a . SDD speeds were improved dramatically! (April 30). Not sure if I am doing this right. Hope this helps.
Hopefully this update helps with the WD Black SN850X (using Pimoroni Base).
The drive works as a storage device but is not bootable.
There's a newer EEPROM update for the 20th of april but my PI doesn't open the network installer, it does like usual: scans for OSes. Is the network install only for the one showed in the vid? Btw, love the vids, awesome content, keeps me up to date.
Always thanks for your insights. Just FYI, 75% keyboard and mouse is much less expensive in USA, purchased.
Keyboard and mouse arrived 20 hours later. Set up, rainbow of lights animate behind the keys. I think the 75% size is great for using smaller Rpi's. Keyboard arrived with switch in on position. Mouse switch in off position. Initially I turned mouse on, but eventually found the light on position, mouse now has changing lighting. This is my first message typing, seems ok. Can be quickly transported in a back pack. Tilt feet on rear of keyboard. I chose the white with some black keys version. Not seeing any downside. With the low cost, quick shipping, it was nice to get this keyboard for my Rpi 5, for which I was using an older usb hp keyboard that didn't always work correctly. Thanks again for the recomendation Leepspvideo.
Anyone else have this keyboard mouse combo (Redthunder M84)? Scroll wheel problematic (page jumps around) on Raspberry, Mint and Windows 10 OSs. I've looked around on other venues without much help. Thanks.
In case anyone cares, I did a replacement for the keyboard and mouse. New gear came; mouse still a little wonky, but scroll wheel works. Times out quickly, hit resolution button just below scroll wheel to wake it up.
The abscence of arrow keys is huge indeed, but... It maybe ok for vim and TWM users i guess lol
What's annoying about reduced size keyboards is if one touch types without looking at the keys, the spacing changes and it causes TONS of typos. I just got rid of a keyboard that I only used for a few weeks when I noticed all my typos, then compared the width of the actual keyboard to the one that it replaced - and it was NOT as wide and keys were NOT in the same position. I type over 50 wpm and I'm not looking at my keyboard when I'm doing it, so it matters. To one who doesn't really know how to type, then maybe they're ok. Not for me. Also, backlit keyboards like that one you have don't do a thing for seeing the character on the key itself, serves no purpose other than LED "bling", unlike the Logitech G413 that I just bought to replace the keyboard that was causing all the typos, and it has backlit KEYS, the room can be completely dark and I can see what key is what - unlike the keyboard you've got. Not sure why you need some reduced size keyboard to use on a desk either.
The letters do light up on the keys of the keyboard I showed and the replacement keyboard I now have. I have noticed the button position change for some operations. I’m not a touch typer, so it’s fine for me.
@@leepspvideo It was when I was consistently making typos that I realized it was after changing keyboards, so I laid them side by side and noted that the new one was narrower; after replacing it with the Logitech, which has the same spacing as the one I had replaced only a few weeks earlier, my errors went away. I also prefer mechanical keyboards, don't care for the "chiclet" type keys, which unfortunately most laptop computers have.
Brilliant update! Not quite as easy as a mac with no OS but a close second. :)
I wish Apple allowed native installations like this
@@leepspvideo You can network load a new macOS onto a virgin machine.
@@SirHackaL0t. But only macOS. The Pi gives you multiple operating systems that can run on different storage. I wish I could use an external drive to run an os on my MacBook Air
I have Java Minecraft with mods on my Raspberry Pi 5. The settings are turned down, but it's playable.
Have you tried updating the eeprom via an existing install of Raspberry Pi OS?
I did an update on my Pi5 last night by clicking the "update" icon on the taskbar and it prompted me to input my Pi's password. I thought that was a bit odd. I've never seen that before.
Mine (bought today) doesn't have the new bootloader. I guess I have to liveboot and update.
Can I use PINN on M.2 NVME SSD with the new firmware? I tried multiple ways, no go. Any hints?
Does this only apply to NVMe drives? I connected the drives via USB and it does not see any drives connected via USB.
If you really like 60% then look for one with 63 keys, these have cursor keys down near the right shift
The Github said "Preliminary support for CM5."
So Compute Module 5 confirmed?
Holy shit cm 5 confirmed
Its been. Eben Upton confirmed it in an interview with Jeff Geerling around the beginning of the year. there’s also a document about “forward guidance” on the Raspberry Pi “Product Information Portal” (though access to it is restricted)
I saw that as well 👍
Yes I asked if I could mention it and was told I can. I don’t have one and don’t know any specs
@@leepspvideo Still cool that it’s confirmed
I even don't like 75%. I prefer TKL and even better a TKL with a dedicated volume and mute control.
Hi Leepspvideo XDA released a new article if you search and has some new methods on doing the Windows 11 set up. Can you do a new all in one set up for the new stuff you added? No big rush just a request. Just like how you explain things in English from the tech talk 😊
What’s different to my guide for nvme?
Windows 11 is now much faster on Raspberry Pi 5. NVMe setup

czcams.com/video/x4okYRm2yPM/video.html
@@leepspvideo I probably said that too frequently but man your channel is a treasure! Really rich content, informative and most importantly just natural delivery. It is becoming super hard those days to find someone who speaks naturally, someone who isnot trying to be funny , entertaining or anything. Keep it up. Happy I found you.
Cursor keys are essential for skipping forward on CZcams :-)
JKL also works
Interesting, does overclocking ability relate to the type of memory more than size?
I included all the links if you want to read through all the tests
@@leepspvideo thank you.
A hot item would be network boot on zero w form factor devices
I think the lack of ram could be a problem
Now can't download os. 23-04-2024
Not a lot of detail given
No cursor keys? No problem! Use NVIM!
Still weird that raspberry pi doesnt have its own power button.
The pi5 does
Hm, for me it is not showing up. I have the Version in use but it will not boot into the network installer
Others have mentioned it can be enabled from Raspi config. I did a new installation
@@leepspvideo yes, you can change the boot-order to „network or sd-card“ but this is not the „imager-boot“, this is the bootp-boot.
@@leepspvideo i have the soloution...i used a wireless keyboard from logitech, it was recognised but after useing a wired keyboard it worked. :-)
This is not working for me. Do the boot order need to be different.?
Make sure you have no os on any of your storage. I formatted my drive with imager.
I never change my boot order
I cannot get this to work with my Pi 5. I updated to the 20/04/24 bootloader and I can't even get a link light on the Pi. If I use the full Raspbian install I get link light when the OS starts, but there's no Network Install. Am I missing something? Did they roll it back?
I haven’t had an issue
@@leepspvideo That's what maddening. I see videos of people with this working just fine. I know the hardware is good because it works in the "full fat" Raspbian. I see you're using the 17/04/24 bootloader. Do you know what changed between that and 20/04/24?
@@MrGeekGamer github.com/raspberrypi/rpi-eeprom/releases
@@leepspvideo Doesn't seem like anything has been rolled back. I've verified everything works with other hardware. Did you have to press any keys to get the Network Installer to start or it just shows up?
@@MrGeekGamer I just booted the Pi connected to a display, with mouse and keyboard but no storage
what fan have you installed?

Is it possible to do this and install to emmc?
The Pi 5 doesn’t have eMMC. What sort of eMMC drive do you have?
It would work with this
Raspikey eMMC drive Vs 14 SD cards. Raspberry Pi 4
czcams.com/video/iGPjDRAtlm8/video.html
@leepspvideo Oh, I didn't know that. I was under the assumption it did. No wonder I could only find official docs for the CM4 emmc. I appreciate the reply.
Where have you been? Lol We've been able to NETBOOT for awhile now. You have to set it in raspi-config first, though.
As a 4Gb Pi5 owner I now feel part of the elite against the 8Gb peasants 🙃
You mentioned Jeff Geerling. Who is Jeff Gerling?
@@alevans51 sounds like an imposter
I will download you into ram without an operating system.
What is eprom?
The Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EPROM) is a data circuit that retains its memory even when power is off.
@@grimuk3817Thanks bruh
@@grimuk3817 so its only for pi os or u can update the rpi 5
@@Roy_1 Welcome ;)
@@Slifer.GameDev No, this entire update is specifically for the RPi5. This is kind of a 'firmware' update (it isn't, but u prolly know/understand that terminology). With the Pi5 being so new, we are now getting the results of all those good folk out there trouble-shooting the necessities. I think the next few months will be rather interesting. And very fruitful.
So 4GB raspberry pi use zswap and zram and overclock the shiz out of it
Nice new feature, albeit one that you should expect from the start. When we see the Pi 6 later this year, all the advances made with the 5 will kill off the ultimately poor RK3588 that had so much promise that will only be fulfilled when other have moved to a new and higher level.
New Pi 6 later this year?
