- Samsung might have been the first at launching a global foldable, but it hasn't been alone in this market. The only thing playing in its favor for the last couple of years is that its major competitors were mostly still in China. Now, while this allowed Samsung to reign supreme and dominate, it also came at the expense of a design that many consider dated now that those Chinese foldables have gone global. It's the main reason why all eyes are on what Samsung is going to do next, but by the looks of it, the answer might be - not much. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and how about another deep dive for the next batch of Galaxy foldables.

Since there are only two major companies that Americans care about in phones there is not that much news like there used to be when there were more brands evenly distributing the market. Let's face it no one in the US cares about Motorola, OnePlus and a small amount of people but Pixel phones. Most people in the US buy Apple even though the phone upgrades are minor. In the rest of the world there are so many incredible brands doing innovative things.

God i just want an S23/S24 type smartphone that folds open. I don't care about it being a brick i just want a big screen phone that opens up

Yeah to me just needs at least ultra telephoto camera, even if it's like an ultra model or something. Spen slot I'm not tripping over as they can just put it on a case like for Fold 5.
@bokie2461 the case idea was such a shit QA I had it and the pen could never stay put it always fell out.
For the premium price they are charging, they need to make it the premium device. They kinda screwed themselves by getting rid of the Note line.

As a fold 4 user, I honestly give up on Samsung. Guess i'll go for vivo's fold next upgrade.
100%, right!! I had fold 3 and now fold 4, and if they don't do a bigger screen, I'm done with samsung.
I gave up on Samsung way before they introduced foldables. Lol! They are just relying on brand loyalty. I rather pick iPhone over Samsung. But since I prefer Android, I never feel tempted to get an iPhone. Anyway, Vivo X fold seems like a much better choice but have you checked out honor magic V2? I've held that phone once and it's insane how they engineered it to be so slim packing with large battery. They may not have flagship level of camera but it's close.
Yep. We all want a s24 ultra sized foldable with a built in pen and expandable memory. They need to quit doing around and just make the damn thing. People that can afford foldables are gonna buy reguardless of price..

I had a Fold 4 and returned it (mostly) because of the stupid, skinny outer screen aspect ratio. That often leaves you with an inner screen that's too big and an outer screen that's too small for what you're trying to do. When they make an S23 Ultra that opens like a book, I'll be first in line.
Loved the 1 hand usability on my zfold5 and the inner screen meant that you can have 2 apps open and not need to rotate the phone 90° to the normal phone landscape way

@SSavolainen its rubbish. A thinner phone like Honor Msgic v2 with a normal screen is still easier to use than the z fold because it's still a thick phone

I value features like regular software and security upgrades, mature ecosystem, and water resistance. Not switching away from Samsung foldables.

Good to see your video again. Thank you Jaì me. There is no need for Samsung to release its new innovations in fold space as long as Apple does nothing. We might see a major revamp of the design, the moment Samsung learns about Apple's entry into this space.
That's what I'm prognosticating as well
I was expecting more. Samsung has allowed the competition to catch up and surpass them in the foldable market.

The problem with Samsung and their 7 years of updates, you’re going to be waiting 2 years after release for the last update. Lots of us are still waiting for 6.1 to roll out and only just received Android 14.
6th generation of these folding phones now and you hardly see one anywhere, when exactly are they supposed to be breaking into the mainstream?
They are around just not a lot but Samsung did sell 1.25 million Galaxy fold 5 units as of the 3rd quarter (October) last year and if you times that by $2000 for each foldable phone that’s 2.5 billion dollars so I don’t think Samsung is the least bit mad about it

@@parshakamarsh true but they are not worried about it since they have the Z Flip, the A series, the S series, The M series, the F series etc. not to mention tablets and watches and on a side note, TVs Refrigerators, Washing Machines and again etc.
@@JoshxDarnxIt that’s why I think they will probably come out with a lite version for real soon they are just testing the market right now so u can imagine when they bump the specs up for the cameras and make the outside front display bigger

Yeah as you said Oneplus and others have done way better recently….Sammy needs to up their game, better cameras, much reduced crease, better aspect ratio of the outer screen. Just what the others have achieved.
I like the idea of having the 2 variants, regular version with no S-PEN built-in, AI etc. and the ULTRA version with all the top specs - built-in S-PEN and S24 camera setup.
So we’re going to talk about the folds design but we’re not going to talk about the fact that the iPhone has looked the same for years now. 🤔

Your comments are spot on. Samsung risks becoming the next Nokia and Kodak if they remains complacent. The Chinese counterparts already showcase what Samsung fold series could have offered their customers, but refused to do so simply because the Chinese are banned from competing in Western markets.

If there isn't an Ultra version or a Fold with Ultra cameras, definitely not upgrading. I'll go for the next iPhone this year.
I had the Fold 3 (screen died after about 8 months) Then Fold 5. Didn't see improvements in cameras. I use cameras on 5 very rarely because of that. I used to use 22 Ulra cameras so much more. It was a very fun camera to use, especially with the 10X zoom. Hopefully, that 5X zoom improves on the iPhone this year.
When will release galaxy 6
Still have an S9+ with a headphone jack and expandable storage. Upgrading to any new phone would mean loosing at least one, and likely both of those features. And as long as they continue charging an arm and a leg for extra storage I'm not particularly interested.

I want to see a lower priced Fold FE
I'm not going to lie holding the fold 4 after using pixel fold feels really good...I think we need to embrace the thinner front display. Variety of form screen ratio is a plus
I personally liked my old Fold 3. I had to replace the screen after a year and a half of use then towards the end of 2023 the middle of screen crease started to look pealed again. So I decided to go for the 24 Ultra. My thoughts now are that even thou I like the device I'm not so sure about the longevity and physics of the material of the Fold for a device which has to open and fold every day. Plus, as a criticism I still think the Fold line should get the same capable cameras & battery upgrade as the Ultra models for the price we pay and maybe a silo for the pen instead having to depend on a case. Until then I will not be going back to the Fold devices.

I bought the three, four and now five. Paying such a premium frustrates me I don't get the best camera too.
Had the z fold 4 and it was awesome then the hindges broke and couldnt open to tablet mode all the way, found out my co worker had the same issue, i only paid 600 for mine because of trade in credit so i wasnt too upset and it was pretty much paid off, grabbed the 24 ultra and im more than happy, wont be getting a folding phone for a LONG time
I might be part of the minority in this, but as a regular samsung Dex user, other company's foldables won't be able to tempt me away without some comparable software. The hardware might be better in some ways, but I use dex, I use my S pen, and I use samsung pay. And I'm not willing to give em up. They're too good.
There is no space constraints for camera.
I think pricing might be like this if all models will be existed.

Tried the Z Fold a few times (2, 3 and 4) and the form factor alone is off-putting. Heavy, bulky, yet too narrow. Throw in pretty bad cameras and I don’t see the appeal. I would say the only saving grace is the software. But there will be people that buy this phone, even trading in their Z Fold 5 for essentially the same thing.
I have both a Fold 4 and Fold 5 (dont ask why) and I dont see much of a difference in anything except the gap which has almost disappeared on the Fold 5. The performance between 4 and 5 are hardly noticeable. Fold 4 performs just as well as the 5. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
What about a fold galaxy z fold 6 ultra
They’ll realize that they need to make significant changes after the Z Fold 8 fails to sell. They’ll try to make a 9th version and then they’ll tell us that foldables aren’t worth it.

I just ordered the galaxy 5 through back market for 980 bucks. But if I had to buy new the folds cost too much for the specs. They need the fold 7 to be innovative or its gonna ruin the folds

The comments under this video seem more negative than positive. Understandably so.
But as someone who's had a Fold2 (my first Fold) for nearing 4 years, I cannot wait to see (and more than likely get) the Fold6! This video did mention a slower willingness to upgrade for the consumer. Spot on. I imagine to keep a Fold6 for at least 4 years too, of course, seeing how I feel about the experience overall for what would be a total of 8 years.
I truly believe, at least for myself, that there's no going back to a slab phone from a foldable. But I'll definitely know by then, I guess.

Actually I'm starting to wonder why many reviewers seem to not respect samsung for what they do. I think they make amazing products.

U do realize if u do a trade on samsung shop app you get the fold for $800 so why would they drop the price to make a cheaper version for around that price range that literally makes no sense. I got an $1000 dollar trade in for the s22 ultra last year they game me a free watch g6 and the phone for $800.
If not for the S Pen I wouldn't even consider buying my ZFold5. I only traded in my S23 Ultra because it was having issues and it was months before the S24 Ultra was released and Samsung offered me a great trade in deal for it instead of sending it back for repairs. It's been OK but nothing spectacular.
Im gonna need a screen thats actually usable in the outdoors. Im so embarrassed when i want to show someome something on my 1800$ phone with the brightness up all the way and they gotta make a cavern with their hands to see the screen.

Sounds like everyone I talk to have stopped upgrading after the Fold 4 🤣 yeah when the fold 5 came out and was the same thing I also was like nahhh I’m good. Might have to wait for a fold7 or just a different brand foldable dang.
I still have my FOLD2 because I didn’t think fold three and four and five were worth trading in for. But I am going to trade in for the fold six, because the increase in the front screen of 2.1 mm. Will be better than this tooth pick I have.
@@RedLeo-pf9yo I went from 2 to 3, and it was meh, but 4 imo is the best my man. It has been absolutely great and the screen still hasn’t bubbled up in the middle since release date. It’s my secondary phone now and I won’t be upgrading until the 7 or maybe just switch over to another brand in a few years. But I still love the thing. If you’re upgrading from a 2 to 6 you’ll definitely feel the difference. I mean I could tell and feel the difference within a good hour of switching to the fold4. Then a month in I was in love.

S22 users are getting it in May. So you're either getting it late May or June

I am still happy with the Fold 4 and the Fold 3 would be almost as good as that one. The only changes I would care about is bringing back the sd card and of course having the pen built within like the Note series (that was practically perfecte) I dont care about the chips, the camera is good enough an battery life on a fold is a no brainer you need an external battery pack for long trips like most other phonesI. If you have not had one of these then it makes and and up cheaper for folks to get one
If samsung doesn't do anything about the fold to improve, then I wish them no sales.

We all continue to buy Samsung Folds but as soon as another reputable brand makes a foldable we are all leaving Samsung for good for their refusal to innovate and make larger displays, slimmer thickness, camera quality from 10 years ago and better battery life. Samsung used to be the leader but are falling the same way Blackberry did.

The zFold6 better have the same spen that the S24 Ultra has (or better), same or better specs, battery life, etc... or I'll trade my zfild5 for the s25 ultra. I like my zFold5 but the price is too high compared to all the flagship phones that out-spec it!

I love Samsungs eco system , but there are other eco systems and why should I wait for Samsung to catch up if i can pay for what i want already.

Give me a Zflip 6 with ONE small camera 56 MP, one UDC on the inside, 7" when open, wider than thinner, and maybe thinner body chassis let say 0,5 ". I don't mind about of battery life, this what i got on my zflip4 is already EXCELLENT. With Snap 3 for Galaxy it will be even more better. This kind of phone is gonna be my DREAM PHONE

I tried fold and went back to normal smartphones. And I am not planing to go back to any fold 😊
as z fold 3 and 2 user. i will not upgrade until i see a big update not a incremental update. until i see a 1tb version or bigger battery then i stick with what work for me. i think samsung is playing it safe (will be a disaster in 1 year), but when you play it safe in business then you give your competition time to catch uip and move past you. i may just wait for the trifolder which is more interesting to me. also, maybe look for a bigger inner screen like china veriants. i use my z fold (dex) like a laptop which i don't want to any of my ultramobile pc out. i don't give a crap about AI because all it doing is making me stupid and not to do my own work. there is a study that smart phone has made human dumber and i think that is right.
Still 2 much i just make phone calls...
