That was really slick putting the camera underneath the aerator. The footage came out perfect. I gave the video a gigantic thumbs up👍🏻. Great video and it was very informative, take care friend.
Nice video. I have a Brinly-Hardy aerator that is similar to this one. I have a few lawns I need to aerate also. I like the weights you made, will maybe have to do some for mine! Keep grinding brother! 💪👍😎
Weight depends on soils. I bent/ broke a few plugs when I hit an unknown rock with about same weight. Fixed easily, and does a great job. Found two more big rocks, since removed. Do about 2 1/2- 3 acres. I thatch first. Plug. Thatch again, especially if rain is forecast. Nice video. Thanks
I just got one and used it today after three days of medium to heavy rain in southeast Louisiana. It was still drizzling when I used it. I used cinder blocks and bunji cords to hold them. It pulled about two inch plugs. If it was dry, I would get the same or less than you did. I have areas of large brown patch, barren areas and nice green centipede grass for the most part. I plan to add manure and compost to the barren and brown patch areas and add fungicide to the brown patch areas and then add dirt on top and level it out. All of the barren and brown patch areas are lower than the good areas so I might as well build them up. Thanks for a great video. I was scared to go too fast but it looked like you were doing pretty good. I was also cutting the grass while aerating. Good luck with your lawn.
I have the exact same one. Second time I used it , a weld broke the holds the flat tine plate to the pipe. I’m welding it for now but Agri-Fab is sending me a new one at no charge 😃
Love those weight boxes! Aerator works best if soil is damp. We follow up with copious amounts of gypsun pellets as well as fertilizer and lime. Or 3 times a year at first then once a year. You won't believe the end result
Nice set up. I use weights. If they don't bounce out your good. . Tip if you want extra weight put trailer tier on the handel. I started doing that when I need little more weight.
Quick question. Does the speed in which you go matter? It seemed like you were going wide open before you speed up the feed. Just curious. I subscribed and like the video. Thanks for putting it out.
Thanks I appreciate it! The spreader recommends about 3 mph for the correct spread rate. So yes if you go faster it will spread out further but it will put down less material.
Ive got a couple clients that requested aeration so Im picking up one of these in the morning. How long has it been since you got some rain? thinking about scheduling them after a rain. Im assuming it would help quite a bit.
I'm not sure man I'm new to this myself. I would think the rain would help soften the ground some but you probably don't want it saturated. It seems to do well on ground that is not driven on.
I have the same aerator and the bolt to the disengage handle broke off immediately and now its stuck in the down position. Have you had any trouble with that? I noticed the bolt was really small, maybe i have it in the wrong place idk. Also I subscribed lol

I have one and custom made concrete ingots as well. My issue is the same. It just doesn't plug deep enough. Closed spoons are better. I'm going to see if I can retro fit it with such to see whether it performs better. I'll let you know. Be blessed.
Quick question. I have the same hustler mower with the tow hitch. Any issue with the tow hole expanding like the aerator could open the hole through the back and disconnect?
I never used this mower to pull it very much. I have a mower with a beefier hitch. I suppose it could wear through in time. You could bolt a metal plate to the existing flange to make it more durable.
have you thought of using plastic storage tubs? You can get square heavy duty plastic storage tubs that are the same square inch area of the platform then fill them up with water put the covers on and tie them down onto the platform then when you are done use the water for your lawn or plants by bailing the water out with a bucket or use a small sump pump to transfer the water through a hose and water your garden. That way you don't have to deal with storage problems when storing the weights or bricks.
I feel like those would be susceptible to cracking and even with a lid it's still going to spill some. Majority of totes are not rated to hold the weight of itself filled with water (which is over 8 pounds per gallon)
Besides mine, I have only aerated one yard lol. It's really not been a service I have offered. I bought it thinking I would and then I got so busy, I never went after any work lol
@@ericstinnett9182 just got done mowing it. I keep it cut at least once a week, sometimes twice. It's only in the front yard and that takes me about 10 minutes lol.
Well I just put the rye on it for it to be green in the winter. My centipede comes back in the Spring. You can overseed in the fall with whatever kind of grass you want. It will come back in the spring.
Those plastic wheels might not make it. If anything breaks it will be that, eventually. I suppose that you could replace them with better wheels if the axle diameter matches. Lowes Hardware has good ones.
@@cleangreenlawnservicellc2630 I did it... I bought two 10 inch pneumatic wheels with steel rims from Harbor Freight, Idem #: 30900 and the axel shafts fit fine. One inch bigger in diameter wheels makes no difference. I was lucky to find them on sale for $6.99 ea. Big improvement.
I spent a long time working on a golf course that aerated twice a year and based on what our director of agronomy taught us. Your plugs are no where deep enough to benefit the root system. If the ground is as hard as you say you need to vacuum up the plugs and top dress with sand to start introducing a loom texture. Just plugging won’t help you.
Curious how do you spread the material, I have a Kubota compact tractor but that seems to compact the soil more. It was my primary mower for a while. Drop spreader?

Thanks for the generous comment and the 👍.
Thank you for the close up view of this aerator in action. I may have to do the weight kit like yours. Thanks for sharing!
Gald this helped you! Thanks
The slow motion really helped. Otherwise it just looked like grass clippings being picked up and thrown around.
Thanks.

Hey I like the boxes you built. What size lumber did you use. 1×4?
I believe I just ripped down plywood to make them. 1x4 would work though..

Man that winter rye took over 😳. Grows 6 inches in a week 😂

Yeah you prbably could of made them a little higher to get more weight of cement.
Should have paid attention in Algebra and Geometry 😂
You did it in spring or fall then afterwards spread grass seed?
I did it in the fall and put rye grass on it, which is a winter grass. It'll die out in the summer heat.
Was it a mix with other grass seed? When rye grass dies off you have a bare spot new grass should be coming up right? I was going put a mix on lawn.
Well I just put the rye on it for it to be green in the winter. My centipede comes back in the Spring. You can overseed in the fall with whatever kind of grass you want. It will come back in the spring.
You should compare you lawn now to after you aerated and seeded it
I had planned to. It looked pretty good in the winter but the Rye grass is dying off now. Thanks for watching.
Those 2 studs on the bottom, you coukd have used all thread or actual bolts and put a washer and nut to hold it to the tooling securely
Not a bad idea. However, these fit really snug........hard to take out by hand as they are lol.
