We raised them in a meat is fantastic. That was the reason that originally brought me to the breed is I tried Highland beef, and after that I fell in love.

Love all the information you provide. I live in PA and will look around my area for highland beef, or a least local farmers/ranchers. Definitely going to start supporting small local businesses. Sorry it took me so long to come to this realization about my family’s meat consumption. Appreciate your channel so much!

There are a couple farms that should be ready to sell their beef. Many years ago I was buying highland beef from a farm in the Newville area but they now are out of business. I am looking myself so if you find a farm let me know.

Well presented Rhett. All for keeping it local with low miles, low CO2, low fat, low cholesterol but superior taste, superb handling and high input from the local community.
So…….let’s drop a few steers to be largely grass fed.

Great video. With food prices going up I decided to buy half a heifer from a local farmer which was grass raised to share with my 3 sons and their families. There are not many highland cows in my area and the 2 that I know of are pets. Video was very informative. Will share it on Facebook.

  • @honeycomb.n.cattle3463

Great video Rhett. Couldn't agree more, buying highland beef and cattle to raise at pets is the best thing to do for supporting local small farmers and the breed as a whole. We do have a similar situation, we tell the kids were their food is coming from, and have cattle that we would not think of eating. There are some we have though, that we have for our or close friends and family to consume. Nice to know where your food is coming from, and how it was treated.

The farm I used to get highland beef from is sadly out of business because none of the kids wanted to farm. I am looking in my area so far I have not been able to. But I know there are farms that were working to be able to sell their beef. But I have not seen them yet.

IMHO pushing Highland as 'lo fat' is to encourage old thinking: lo fat is 'yesterday' and (even though I have already put a deposit on a Highland steer), it's as much the fat as the muscle that I look for. Fat tastes fabulous, is nutritious, contributes to easier cooking and is a great source of energy - esp. for us carnivores!
