Renovation of 200 year old house done sympathetically with lime mortar.

I can't imagine it only took 3 minutes to finish such a magnificent renovation. Ireland is truly a isle of magic.

finally someone got their heads together by not covering up the stones walls. I have seen other renovations where the home owners have cover up the walls. All that beautiful history is gone but you are different. I hope other folks who want to do renos see your video and preserve the history of the buildings not only the outside but the in side of these wonderful homes. I hope you hang a picture of the past family who lived here at one time in your home. It would a nice tribute to the family.

@@jcakblade101 Toasty warm. We have a log burner that heats the radiators and hot water in the winter, we have solar to heat the water in the summer. The walls are 900mm thick so they absorb the heat from the sun drying the day and release it overnight. They also store the heat from the log burner and radiators overnight and release overnight. Colin the summer. They knew what they were doing 200 years ago when they built these kind of houses.
Brings tears to your eyes watching this, good on you for renovating the house and not tearing it down n rebuilding, your home is absolutely stunning n the bench swing just tops it off
Truly inspirational, congratulations on seeing the potential in the over grown ruins of an old Irish cottage, that was destined to disappear forever, but now it lives again thanks to you.

Dear old Ireland is slowly being turned into an open prison. Our Father's and Grandfather's wouldn't have stood for it. They were truly masculine men, something which is now considered "toxic". @@vintageretro Yes that would be so helpful....as I'm looking at two places next week. Both old derelicts but have the acres I need for animals. I would definitely watch any videos you put up on techniques etc. Your renovation is fantastic ☺

Greetings from Inchigeelagh. You have done a mighty job on your house. It takes me back 26 years when I did mine. I need to keep the stoves going all winter to keep this warm but the farm is on the mountains.

WOW!!!! Stunning to say the least. The only thing I saw that I would'av changed would have been to put in more windows. The rooms looked really dark. But, I like lots of light. Other than that, you did a fantastic job, it's beautiful.
Cheers Kathy, we have skylights on the rear of the roof so it’s a little deceptive from the video. Plenty of light really for a traditional dwelling - tried to keep it as authentic as possible from the front view but compromised from the rear. Glad u like x

Hey everyone first post here.
my family has acquired a old stone bungalow cottage that was renovated over the years.
It’s had breezeblock built as a outter skin around the old stone to raise the roof higher there is no cavity or air gap between the stone or breeze blocks and the breezeblock is rendered in cement. I found that the chimney wall has been built out with concrete and bricks cut in half that was attached to the stone further trapping moisture and we have mold issues in the corners off the room
the whole wall seems to be skimmed in gypsum, in parts I can see concrete (should the inside off the external walls be taken back to stone an redone in lime plaster) or leave as is?
there is a flat roof kitchen/bathroom extension that had bitumen on the floors trapping moisture and causing damp which has now all been removed and tiled. The two bedrooms one for a fact has bitumen 🙄and those plastic tiles on top this room has the worst moisture, the windows be soaking every morning.
we dry up/open windows to allow air flow but doesn’t seem to help should the bitumen be lifted from the floors? If so what material should we put down instead?
