What’s the movie Deep Impact about?

I'm so glad Frodo got to the top of that mountain. "It's over, Sam. It's done."
I had absolutely no idea what this comment meant until I watched to the end of the video and realized i had completely forgotten elijah wood was in this movie 🤣🤣🤣
Everything would be easier with the eagles...
I hate you for beating me to this lol
That line still brings a tear...
Ohh sam
@0:38 the fact that he was blinded by the solar rays and he cant even see his son for the first time before he dies tears me up inside.
I cried tears of joy at the way Mark Simon (Blair Underwood) bluffs the new mother into THINKING her husband saw his son before he died. Must've given her some peace and closure.
It made me cry is when Spurgeon looked at the picture of his wife and said "Mary I'm coming home."🥲
Stop being cringe
Yeah it sucks he is about to die and he can't even see his son or wife before making the ultimate sacrifice all he has is their voices.
@@jd0879how is that cringe
That boy will grow to never have to buy a beer for the rest of his life. Everyone owes their life to his father.
When the gal goes “look at the bright side we’ll all have highschools named after us” you have no idea how real that statement is 😂😂
Also, all the corn is gone.
Shout out to them for saving us all here on earth. Crazy how they were able to upload this on CZcams. Should have more views tbh.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!
I get it! You’re a comedic genius of originality!!!
100%
I remember crying before, forgot about this movie. Now that I’m a dad, it hits a little differently. 😢
Even though this is just a movie, that was an amazing thing they did. Sacrificing themselves to save everybody on Earth.
When they made real movies with heart and a story that genuinely pulled your heart strings.
After his father's ultimate Sacrifice little Oren will not only get the red carpet treatment where ever he goes but Colleges and Universities all over the world will be offering him scholarships!
Long as he had some decent grades, I’m sure he would’ve been skip straight to the head of the line to get into a service academy as well.
1. They better get more than high schools named after them.
2. I just realize that little boy if this was in real life has already graduated college.
I watched this movie as a kid, thanks for bringing all the memory back.
Rectum? Damn near killed him!
24 years later (watched it when I was 18) this scene still gives me goosebumps, I wish they would include it on classic tuesdays at movie theatres
You have classic Tuesdays? That sounds awesome, where I live they hardly ever play old movies, like once a year if were lucky.
Now your 43, Jesus, I’m 18 now, how fast does it come around 😂
This movie never got the cred it deserved.
I saw this movie as a high school senior and I was openly sobbing at the end with no shame whatsoever
👌
Same here
I was openly smacking my wiener around.
This was a great sci-fi disaster movie imo. I also liked Armageddon but more in the action blockbuster sense. This movie had a different, more sombre tone and it worked. Not often a movie portrays a situation where the inevitable is bad.
25 years later, as a new dad, this scene really hits different.
You'll find that's true of a lot of movies.
My son is 2.5, and whether it's new movies or re-watches, some scenes hit so much harder now that it still takes me by surprise sometimes.
You are in for a treat on how you are gonna watch movies from a whole new perspective now. You're gonna watch them from the parents point of view now. Movies like a christmas story or a bronx tale made me realize it. As a kid I always watched it from the kids point of view. Like how u want the 1 special gift for christmas. Then when I grew up and had a son now I watch those movies from the dad's point of view. The scene where the dad is so proud to get his son the red rider bb gun and watch his excitement. It's really cool to see it from the other side.
100% agree, and I have been a father for 12 years!
Deep Impact is one of the best movies created. Each actor played their part so well.
much much better than armageddon and the corny aerosmith shit with it -_-
Grateful for the sacrifices made and amazed they've released footage of their final moments.
Can you imagine how different to world would be if they hadn't succeeded. Crazy.
🤣
This may not be a great movie but god this scene tore me up! Robert Duval is so damn good.
What are you talking about? This is a great movie, one of my favorites growing up!
It's not only a great movie, it may be one of the best ever made!
What his father back there was very brave. His son should be proud of him.
He is.
personally, I loved this movie so much more than Armageddon. It was less cliche than the typical "good guy always wins" type of movie. It still amazes me that Armageddon was more popular.
Man poor Oren being blind and only being able to hear his son for the last time, and seeing Angia Baker close her eyes at 1:57 really hit me
So the “ messiah “ ended up sacrificing himself again !?
It seems the name of the spacecraft was the biggest spoiler ever and no one noticed.
@@juliussd5901If nothing else it helps differentiate this film from Armageddon
I hope that doesn't count as blasphemy
Amen
Yeah.
In that movie, the ships were named Independence and Freedom.
So literally, in that movie, the world was saved by American patriotism.
Sounds like a Michael Bay film all right.
2:38 Frodo realised he climbed the wrong mountain
I was about to tear up on the scene of the blind astronaut then i saw your comment 😂😂
Mr. Frodo Mr. Frodo, I don't think this is mt. Doom!
Frodo would have been SOL, he supposed to be in coastal Virginia. The Appalachians are 200 miles away, Virginia Beach is a coastal plain an its flat as a washboard. They filmed this scene in the wrong geography
A real man cries during this scene 😥😭
👌👍😢
Just had a daughter, she's now three months old. I've been having a rough time, thinking I'm a terrible father and trying to care for her mostly by myself. Honestly scenes like this help me realize how lucky I am to have her.
Your have her with you which is great. There will be good days and bad ones. Just don't be surprised at how times flies..(My daughter is grown now). Enjoy the moments while you can.
You aren't a terrible father. A terrible father is one that is never there, who gives up. It could be because he thinks it's too hard or because he thinks the child deserves better. All a child wants is to know that their parent loves them. As long as you do that, you are a great father. Don't sell yourself short. She appreciates everything you do for her.
God, that score at 2:09 is incredible.
Gotta love James Horner. What a fantastic composer he was and still is. Rest in peace, James.
@@SnailMaster at least we still have John Williams
Really great how that symphony kept playing while all that destruction was going on.
This scene is so much way better and more heart wrenching than Bruce Willis one in Armageddon
I respectfully disagree, their BOTH great scenes, and BOTH have brought me to tears. I honestly can’t elevate one over the other, each had its own feel to it.
This scene for instance is pure self sacrifice, and it tugs at the heart strings all the more thanks to the Oren being blinded by the Sun, and so unable to even SEE his own Son for the first and ONLY time in his life.
Bruce Willis/Harry Stamper has the self sacrifice element there, but also a passing of the mantle, “I want you to know, AJ saved us, he did.” And I dare ANYONE to say their eyesight didn’t blur when Harry’s daughter reaches for him as the tears overflow.
In my opinion, both scenes are equal to each other, and the only self sacrifice scene I would rate above them is well…
“…I love you 3000.”
@@commandercritic9036 I respectfully disagree with someone who can't differentiate between "their" and "they're"
I can watch it one million times and still get tears in my eyes with this scene.
May this people rest in peace for there sacrifice and honor for saving the earth
It’s a movie.
@@hypnobearcoup2505 🤫🤣
😢 this scene makes me cry
Armageddon was the funner film. It’s a story about of a set of relatable crazy characters riding rockets to blow up a meteor.
Deep Impact was the better film. It’s a story of tough decisions and the professionals tasked with carrying them out, as well as the individuals affected by them.
Both of them share the same plot, but they do not share the same audience.
I love both !
Armageddon was awful.
Armageddon is a redneck, macho man, American white-savior, unrealistic movie with almost zero scientific credibility. I could watch it along with ConAir and would feel like it's the same movie. It's really funny, though. Deep Impact is a little more serious about reality. I hate Elijah's ever-present anguish face on every single movie hes on, though.
Now that I'm a Dad, this hits different.
Same. 2 month old daughter.
My parents told me, a few months after this incident, another asteroid also about to hit earth, and from what I heard of, some bald dude heroicly split the asteroid in two and said "WE WIN GRACIE !!"
Lmao
Yeah, that was a tough year. So was the year before when volcanoes were blowing up. And the year before that aliens invaded the Earth. Still... not as bad as the nightmare we live in these days.
The other guy was like 😐 while everyone was praying to god 🙏
Solute....to these magnificent heroes 🥺🙏
I like how the Russian has his eyes wide open.
Because in Mother Russia, comet does not impact Mother Russia, Mother Russia impacts comet!!!
Yeah yeah, but what I was alluding to is that we all face death in different ways, some of us don't even want to see it coming, some of us do though. Tomato\tomoto @@tomace7924
@@tomace7924 I read that in russian accent
I often wonder about that acting/directing choice. I like to think it's because life is hard and cheap in Russia and he's been through worse.
We all approach death differently. Some of us would like to die in our sleep, some of us want to look right at it. @@zeroizeable
Frodo survives again.
Frodo made it again! Unfortunately Lt. Tasha Yar did not.
now older this scene makes me cry
1:27 and after is where I lose it 😭😭😭
Sooooo much better than the crappy Armageddon!
This movie will ALWAYS be better than Armageddon better storyline better music a true masterpiece
Robert Duvall is playing a Buzz Aldrin type isn't he?
No😊
I was just thinking of this scene the other day. Then, it shows up in my recommendations. Crazy.
Rip music composer James Horner
Listen this scene should not still move me like this😭😭
this is too sad i was really really crying

'Wait. Wait. Oh god, wait.'
Lady, it's a fucking meteor. I don't think you can put it on hold. It kinda just does its thing.
You’d say the same thing in her shoes.
If you dont cry or tear up during this scene, you have no soul
I was like ten when I saw this movie and I had never heard my name anywhere else and definitely not in a movie. I watch this clip just to remember how cool it was as a kid.
I cry every time I watch this film
They saved everyone, it's a happy ending 😊
Better then Armageddon
this movie does leave a Deep Impact.

I have always tought of diying like this, to die saving others is a death i wish i can have. There's something beautiful and truly humane in giving your life for other people. Makes you think you were born to be part of something bigger.
Why not LIVE like this? I can't say I do this every day, but to live for sake of other people is a big ambition, too.
@@RobinPM86 i try to be a good person, everyday with everyone as much as i can. I believe in politeness, and i contempt people who believe are above others. I'm living with a hole in my soul since my mom died past year. She was the most beautiful and lovimg human being i've ever knew and she was taken from me by illness. I have always been a kind person but i've been thinking too much about death lately and how i wish i could see my mom again. I don't know bro i feel like i don't have a clear pourpose now and i would like to feel my life was useful for someone else who loves life more than i do. That's a gift i wish i could give to someone, anyone. To save another person, to save a child, to protect a woman, to save even an animal, i think that's one of the most beautiful things someone can ever do.
@@alexandermendeyev35 Have you ever actually faced death? Been in a moment where you thought "Oh, crap, this is IT,"? I have. It's a very sobering moment. And in that moment you are completely alone, because even if others were with you that are about to die, your life ending is only going to be experienced by YOU. While I agree that giving your life for others is a truly noble thing, "Greater love hath no man than this, who lays down his life for another," you cannot know how you will react until the moment is there. I used to think I would gladly give my life for another, before that moment when I was 20 and a doctor told me I might die that night. It's not something that is easy or casual to do. Believe me. Value your life and don't speak of dying so casually.
In all honesty. What a way to ride the lighting.
deep impact to the heart😢
I love.hes saying he's laughing and he's like, dude I'm blind not deaf
This scene is already emotionally heavy as a newfound parent it hits much harder now with little Oren never going to know or meet his pops
Nunca olvidaré el impacto de DART contra Dimorphos
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
One of my favorite movies
Well I wasn’t expecting that. 💔
Very sad
Red cross on the nuke. Thanks label guy 👍🏼
So much better than Armageddon.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂
I needed that.
Great joke
Armageddon is more "fun" probably, so it appealed to the masses more. This movie is also entertaining but it has more emotional moments. Although saying that, Bruce Willis' goodbye in Armageddon was an amazing scene.
I saw both in the theater, and both had equally tear-jerking endings. However, on the whole, Deep Impact had better performances and the movie was more cohesive.
Armageddon felt like a two hour music video.
@@crashfan9997Armageddon is a hot mess.
It really is. It’s so much more dramatic and it gives a lot of great depth in detail with all the characters and their loved ones. Like Tea Leoni and her parents and Chloe, Elijah Wood and Sarah and her family and the astronauts all working together. It even shows how Morgan Freeman as the president cares about the American people so much.
I always go at this scene.
this is honestly much more realistic than armageddon and most likely HOW we would stop it..
it always annoyed me how in Armageddon they didn't ALL stay on the asteroid to make sure to stop it . it's only the fate of all of humanity on the balance but they all run away like cowards
@@NitpickingNerd i think im the only one that didnt care for that movie. to me it sucked
Study more physics. The asteroid still hit. The energy released would be even higher because of all the individual masses adding to re-entry ends up being actually higher because of surface area.
The world would have been a scorched cinder.
As bad as it was, the other movie had the physics for that right at least.
@@NorthForkFisherman the other one hit, yes. but it was smaller and didn't obliterate earth. most of the smaller rocks burnt up in the atmosphere.
@@TheJedimaster6788 Nope - they both hit. Nothing was deflected - all that same amount of mass is still coming down at the same velocity. The only difference is that as a single piece, the Earth herself could have absorbed some of that as kinetic energy. Well, as small chunks? Now it won't. And all that energy will now be released as heat into the atmosphere.
And from a biosphere perspective, that's game over.
Great scene, but bad science.
they made such a hard man choice to sacrifice themselves to try and save as many people as they could
After this, Frodo realized "my precious" was the key to save the world!
You will always be the worlds hardiest hobbit. :)
If you’re going to go, that be the way to do it!
G’damn this scene always gets me🥺
That's what we, dads, are for.....
Most dads walk out on their kids
At least Fish got to be with his wife again.
What’s crazy about these type movies from 20-30 years ago is we now have the means to successfully deflect asteroids. And no they don’t blow them up and no they don’t send astronauts to drill into them to blow them up 😂
Too bad the Messiah didn't have escape craft, I really wonder if this would actually work seriously
Well, from what I've seen, the general consensus among the scientific community is that if this was tried, it likely wouldn't work. Either you'd get a scenario where it splits into two smaller ones, like this movie showed, or it *would* explode into hundreds of pieces.......but not the tiny, harmless sized ones that would burn up in the atmosphere, as shown here, but ones of varying sizes that would result in a more widespread area of damage or destruction due to one big impact turning into hundreds of smaller ones as a result of the comet or asteroid being blown up. Then, there are some who argue it *could* work........Odds are, we may never find out, unless we have to divert or destroy an incoming comet or asteroid this size. We can only hope we don't have to!
Why would the Messiah ever need one? Who would save them? Seriously, think about it.
@@19TheFallenwe would likely try to split it in 2 and hope the explosion will change the course of the Meteor.😊
Dayum we dodge the bullet
I always liked this movie better than armageddon. Realistic characters, technology and human reactions.
And the military couldn't even let Fish say goodbye to his sons, they couldn't do an audio hookup or something?
Do yall think they should redo this movie? Ive only seen bits and pieces and it seems pretty good. 😊 where can I watch it, anyone know?
To give up ones life for countless others, there is no greater honor.
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few
Frodo has finally reproduced!
lmao
That kid looks gay
we should pay our respects, without them there would no us.
what the... this is even sadder than armageddon bruh ;-;
Close call, if Frodo hadn't made it we'd never get LOTR.
Did they get the comet!?!
2:12 - Asteroid Wolf's death
be good Oren, be good 😭
This is how I want to go. Trapped in a spaceship with a bunch of strangers far away from my family and friends.
Smegol in the hat was weird but at least Frodo looks the same in this version
Knowing what we know now about what a large enough 'rain' of mico-meteors would do to our temperatures worldwide... Everyone could still roast here. Very interesting RadioLab special about the first few days after the dinosaur meteor hit. Give it a listen, it's fantastic.
With the astronauts blowing up the big comet, it makes rhetorical father daughter death meaningless and very avoidable.
They should have evacuated
The daughter gave her helicopter seat up for someone else, and wanted a last few minutes with her father.
Eliah Wood looks the same age today
I think he would make a pretty good link if they ever made a legend of zelda live action movie.
2:04 The Russian keeps his eyes open and on the prize like his captain, saying I must break you meteor.
James Horner was a GREAT composer.
Not being able to hold my baby ever would be instant death for me.
Did Frodo just steal that guys precious? I mean he tends to do that sometimes.
This was a better written film, but still prefer Armageddon. To have Heston in thr voiceover prologue. Sets the tone perfectly.
