  • The Group was formed during the days following the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York. Our city's Muslim communities and other faith communities were targeted with attacks, graffiti and intimidation. In response, Rabbi Tann from Singers Hill, called upon Dr Naseem and the leaders of the city's principal faiths came together on the steps of Central Mosque to declare their shared belief that acts of terrorism are contrary to the beliefs of all faiths, and that an attack on any faith in Birmingham is an attack on all faiths.
They resolved to meet together as leaders to develop understanding and trust and to work for the whole city of Birmingham, towards peace, fellowship and reconciliation.
Twenty years have elapsed and the Faith Leaders' Group is as strong and relevant today as it was in those dark days of 2001. The fellowship, trust and understanding built up between leaders has served the city well through times of hope and opportunity as well as times of threat and conflict.
A documentary was premiered about the achievements of the group over the 20 years.
