Horchata Recipe: How to Make Our Favorite from El Union | Food Hacks NOT by Pepper • Pepper.ph

- The good folks at El Union in La Union, Philippines shared their famous horchata recipe a few weeks back, and we just had to try it on this episode of #FoodHacksNOTByPepper-if just to get a semblance of what could have been summer 2020. Here's how to make the drink at home (for now)! #PepperPH #supportlocal
EL UNION HORCHATA
Serves 4
30 mins + overnight
INGREDIENTS
Scant 1 cup rice
A little over 1L water
28g cinnamon bark
3 1/2 cups milk
1 cup + 2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Tiny drop of almond essence
PROCEDURE:
1. Blend rice, cinnamon bark, and water in a blender, grinding rice into tiny pieces.
2. Refrigerate mixture for at least 4 hours to overnight.
3. Strain the liquid into a pitcher or large bowl, discarding the ground up rice.
4. Mix in milk, sugar, vanilla, and almond essence.
5. Stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture is homogenous.
6. Serve over ice.
(Optional: Top with ground cinnamon)
