Very nice. You have better luck than I, I struck out yesterday. Need fresh bait badly and the river bank needs to firm up a little so i can get to more spots. It is a soupy mess up here currently.

It's a tough fishery at times, but there's some giants out here. Skip's entheusiasm wains whenever we work on netting haha.
Great video, awesome flathead, Skip is an amazing dude man. I have a question on the Alijoz 400s what gear ratio on them and your bumping real is it the 400 also and gear ratio on it, thanks Spencer!
Glad you enjoyed it man. I use the 6:6:1 gear ratio for anchor and dragging. For bumping I use the 8:1:1. I bump with the 400 size too. Promocode RC15 saves ya 15% too. Hope that helps!

What kind of reels are these and if they have lots of tension on the reels will the button be easy to press to release the line. Wanting to know for drift fishing for catfish in strong current or below a dam. Should I use this reel for something like that?

The general them I hear with fishing in general is to use what is native to a fish's environment.
I don't think there is shad or skipjack anywhere in my local lakes or rivers or anywhere here in east central Illinois.
Should I still try shad/skipjack lures or a bag of dead baby shad sold at stores?
Or maybe just keep trying to catch blugill/sunfish as bait?
I believe your from Iowa. Is that where you get your shad and skipjack?
That's a good rule. There's shad in most bodies of water that have catfish, as well as bluegill. As long as its legal, those are great baits. I prefer them fresh and better yet alive.

I'd give it a try. Worst case scenario you enjoy some time on the water.
What's a good measure you use to determine when you can start to fish for flatheads in the spring? I always thought water temperature but since it never gets that cold in AZ I see dudes catching flatheads from the bank all year long@@RiverCertified

just a question. Why do we all spend thousands on 8 foot power poles and then fish deep? I just put them on my new boat also. $5300 installed. I figure I will use them launching and loading and some shallow situations. Would love to know your opinion on them
I prefer to fish shallow given the choice, but I go where the fish go.
