Hahah yeah it was easier for me to watch this again, this time around
It's very indicative, to me, of a spinal injury. I can only speak from personal experience, and maybe Stan would agree, but breaking your back effectively knocks the wind out of you completely. It becomes extremely hard to breathe properly and you're sort of wheeze-groaning trying to force air into your lungs because you start to panic but this initial shock seems to last maybe a minute, maybe two, then it all calms down. It's a very scary experience for that initial minute or two, you feel like you're dieing or going to die if you don't start breathing properly soon.
When I broke my back, I was exactly the same. The pain was so intense initially, but actually subsided, unexpectedly, rather quickly and only hurt afterwards when movement or pressure involved the affected vertebrae.
My incident a few years ago was much less glamorous compared to a motorbike crash(of which I own a few and ride almost daily to this day), I crushed/shattered three vertebrae by - wait for it - slipping on a goddamn hill and landing at apparently the perfect angle with just the right amount of force.
@@hellsgate09 "When I broke my back, I was exactly the same. The pain was so intense initially, but actually subsided, unexpectedly, rather quickly and only hurt afterwards when movement or pressure involved the affected vertebrae." Absolutely the same for me.

@@jynsym1 adrenaline does weird shit to the mind, you know something fucked up happened, but your brain is like "naw, we good" when, in fact, you're fucked up
I remember watching the video and having the emotion of my accident come back. Then I didn't cry because I was too worried about my hubby's bike, telling him to check his bike. He ran between me and his boney, never removing his helmet. Ran to me, my effing wife hands to sides of helmet, runs to bike, my effing bike, hands to sides of helmet. Back and forth. I phoned the rescue, phoned our kids and calmed him down. Only once he was cleared at the hospital that nothing was broken, then I cried like a baby, probably because it was my birthday and we were planning a bbq etc. Thinking back it looked so freaking funny and ems did not believe I was that badly hurt.
The fact that you were helped so fast, ems believed what you said and the dr's did the repairs so fast is awesome. Welcome to proper care vs oh they are bikers they don't need that help. And this is South Africa I am speaking of. Not all medical care is bad, we have some really awesome specialists but without a decent insurance you are just not going to get the help you deserve.

Thats a man born to be a Platoon Leader or a Paramedic.
The lead guys lane position was also better for this turn at high speed.
Yea, stan didn't even go wide.
rotaxhippie Thanks Rossi..... honored to have your input....
@@Sunbear415 If you're riding 90+ mph on public roads, lane positioning should be common sense and is a large factor in why he went down. Kind of strange he didn't mention it, you don't have to be Rossi to point that out.
@@vac4nt dumbfuck - catch up, you've had plenty of time, they were riding 90kph, that's kilometers, as in 56 mph, the turn was a 30 mph turn (hence the 50 kph sign), if he was doing 90+ mph, we wouldn't be watching his reaction - thank god he's still on this planet
@@MikeT-TheRetiredColonel Just a slight correction. The sign was also in kph. So it was a 30 KPH sign. So he was doing triple the recommended speed of the corner.

Hahah it's okay to laugh! It's actually all just a funny memory to me now. And thank you!
The grass is his friend :)
A simple yet important philosophy my uncle taught me when I first started riding. "remember to dress for the slide, not the ride." I dropped my bike a few months later and I was so fortunate I didn't sustain any large injuries (mostly scrapes and bruises). He was the one that inspired me to ride and even taught me about the techniques to dump the bike and slide. I'll never forget the day I had my first accident as I'm sure you never will either Stan. It only takes one time to REALLY understand the consequences of riding and the responsibility of being a smart rider. Riding is fun and yeah can be a tad reckless at times. But be smart, be situational, and observing your surroundings prevents these things from happening again. Still super happy you came out of it still walking and alive. I'm happy you showed this to your viewers and emphasized the importance of safety, gear, and NEVER riding alone.

I just wrecked myself. I'm 6 weeks out today and gonna try to go back to work on monday. I broke 6 ribs and cracked 1 vertabrae, had a concussion on my forehead cause I only had a half helmet on. So I know exactly how you felt. Them ribs hurt so bad healing! Good to see both of us are doing good! I wish I had a camera when I wrecked cause I can't remember it. This one time I was riding, and I somehow jammed the chain, and the wheel stopped. I flew like 10 feet then faceplanted. It was pretty painful
ninjawolf x23 same here except when I flew off my bike I put my hands out ( I know not to do that now btw) and I sprained both my wrists and also cut really deep into my elbow which sucked XD
Damn you good? My face was cherry red when I face planted on a pedal bike
@@thecod1ngsoftie151 had a helmet, otherwise I wouldnt have a face. I was in a road of rocks and stuff, probably how it got jammed
@@ninjawolfx2329 Thats good you had a helmet, but bad that it got jammed. I didn't have a helmet when riding and I was on a rocky road too. Hopefully you're good now
Thankful this is a sort of blessing for you, when I was 22, I lost control of my 02 M3 and spilt traffic, ending up in a similar drainage ditch, no one suffered injuries, other than some damage to my baby, being a manual, dumb and full of pride I tried to control the slides as I lost control but had to pick between a brick wall and an open field with the field being the best option at the speeds it all went down. And for me, getting out was amazing I just fell into a huge puddle of water getting out of my car and laid there until EMS arrived. I got lucky with the PD that it was a malfunction within the vehicle rather than my own negligence, it terrified me as lane spiting cars head-on at 50+ mph wasn't even a second for me to react as I was sliding over the road. I'm glad I walked away with everyone else and even had insurance pay for damages. Watching this video makes me happy you survived that experience and can't wait for even more content. Its all just dice, and we get lucky sometimes.
Happy birthday Stan 🎂🎂🎂🎂 glad you’re still here bro

Hey Stan, first of all happy birthday and second of all full gear also includes a back protector and a chest proctector as well. Also its better if you slide instead of the other thing that you said when you crash beacuse a lowside is always better than a highside. A back protector will basically prevent breaking the back and also protect is from snapping, if at all you bend the wrong way. And me being a track rider can assure you of that, because ive had many crashes while riding.
Haply birthday once again Stan!!! Love you from India🤘🤘
#stanfam
do u know if he didn't have one on? cuz that was my exact question
True! I didn't actually have a back protector here or a chest protector. Could have made a difference for sure! I ride with a back protector at the very least now these days. Live and learn. And thank you for the birthday wish!
@@antonio7334 wdym
Unless it's really hot, I normally ride in a track suit, otherwise a vented (protective) riding suit. I tend to use the built-in foam-type back protector in my track suit on the street, but this video is making me reconsider and instead use my dedicated track back protector. My next big purchase may be a higher-grade track suit with air bags, which apparently do a pretty good job protecting against many neck, collar bone, upper chest and shoulder injuries.
A slide is obviously way better than hitting something, especially at 50+mph. While the tall grass is better than hitting a tree, guard rail, pole or anything else hard, you still will decelerate almost instantly and some parts will grab/hit something more than others causing hard twisting beyond normal flex points.
You're right in the comment about riding too close. Ride your own ride. Risk only compounds when close to someone else.
Happy birthday and a quick recovery.
@@bernhtp more so focus if a back protector is CE certified (and if so, Level 1 or 2?) rather than foam or track use Cuz track use is always Level 2 if I'm correct and those are a bit more expensive

To all of you- it’s important to tell the firefighters and paramedics everything you can about what happened, what you feel, what you’ve taken, your medical condition, so they can assess your condition and make decisions about how to treat you. You could have been paralyzed by your injuries and not letting them know how fast you were going or where you hurt makes a difference in the way they move you. They’re not the police so tell them so they can help you.

14:45 lmao, i dunno why i found this so funny 😂😂🤣
I'm just a 15-year-old mountain biker, but I wear a full face dirtbike style helmet, and I've been in enough crashes to know that some of them will really hurt if you're not dressed properly; I got in a bad crash, right as I was learning how to ride and collapsed my left lung, but thankfully I was riding with other people that day, and they helped me out. I can 100% agree with the statement, "dress for the slide, not for the ride." But spinal injuries, man, those are what scares me, the most of broken bones, because you can't just put your spinal cord in a splint like you could with a broken arm or leg, as well as not the spinal cord, carries all of your nerves to your brain, and, like you said, in the video, can paralyze you if it breaks in the wrong spot. Hope you don't have any lasting affects cause that was a gnarly crash.
wow this made me remember about my own crash @ 150KMS on the highway ... my 600 RR was skipping sideways in a turn and i made moob mistake of trying to trail brake like on a dirt bike and the bike straightened out and went dead straight into the ditch between oncoming lane and our side and i hit the ditch at over 150 kms , and then ragdolled with the bike for 2 meters , this was on vancouver island neamr millstream overpass .. im lucky to be alive .... my lesson for new riders ,,, dont ride beyond your means .. if u cant ride fast , dont ride with a fast pack and push yourself waay out of your skill ... glad to know your feeling better stan
