- Ophthalmology residents at Sir JJ Hospital, Mumbai describe their toxic work atmosphere.
Daily atrocities, insults & false allegations by their seniors had become routine.
We would like to highlight their plight which was hidden from public eye for so long.
Let's show these residents they aren't alone & their cause will not go unsupported.

This has been going on since years and nobody had shown courage to speak against it till now. hats off to you guys for taking such a bold step. All the previous passed out seniors should also now openly support for the cause as they had suffered the same during their time of training.
This is the reality at d one of d most prestigious institute of India. We must stay united n fight till our demands are fulfilled.

This is the situation in other colleges also, maybe not so bad but still students are looked upon as future competitors and denied learning opportunities by those entrusted with imparting knowledge. I have heard this name Lahane in few other forums also, such people have no place in teaching institutions, let them have their private practice and make money. Why do they spoil others career
In every college and every department pg students are going through hell ...in the name of thesis in then name of duty these kind of people are harrasing them..they are considered as bandhuva majdur and treated like animal and justify all these atrocities in the name of teaching...compile all these teachers list...let's unite and remove these people ..these don't belong to civilised community..
let's file a pil regarding same in high Court demanding a fair probe

Although I was very fortunate to have a gem of a teacher during my PG at VMMC, I personally know of other residents having to fill water at their PG Guides' homes!
Also having worked in the UK, I realise there is a massive difference in the work environments and learning cultures in India and the UK.Bear in mind there are nasty teaching guides there as well but the system there has put checks and balances whereby a trainees' complaint are taken seriously and that department may stand to loose their training posts.

Lahane has cataract surgery record at the expense of his students not knowing how to do the basic surgery expected from an ophthalmologist
everybody knows about lagane and Ragini. good that these people finally stood up. there is a limit to everything.
This is going on since decades in JJ ophthalmology department, now again junior doctors have raised this issue. Hope this time their voice is heard & they will get justice.
Otherwise like in 2016 the beurocrats will suppress these young doctors voice. All the best for this time.

डॉ लहाने सर व त्यांची डॉक्टर टीम यांची प्रतिमा मेडीयाने खूप चांगली प्रोजेक्ट केली आहे. परंतु प्रत्यक्षात ते तर निवासी डॉक्टर्स ना खूपच वाईट वागणूक देतात असे या निवासी डॉक्टर्स यांची तक्रार आहे. खरे तर हे निवासी डॉक्टर्सच खूप काम करत असतात. त्यांना अशी अपमानाची वागणूक देणारे चुकीचे करत आहेत.
त्यांच्या कर्माची फळ त्यांना मिळतीलच.पण आपण सर्वांनी न्याय व सत्याच्या बाजुने राहून या निवासी डॉक्टर्स यांना पाठिंबा दिला पाहिजे.

I have full sympathy with you all. I heard what they said in maha legislative assembly today and its extremely unlikely that politicians will support you unless there is a public outcry. I hope you guys have taken multiple proofs of all these instances including videos. I would suggest you approach the police to file FIR, human rights commission and editors of all the media houses personally and relentlessly to see to it that at least some of them take it up for reporting. Once all these facts are out in the media politicians will be forced to act. God bless.

In residency our senior forget that first we are human beings and then we are specialists.

Final yr residents r afraid to step up with exams hovering over the head n their futures hang in balance..
There have been cases of attempted suicides by the residents, which were hushed up.
All the former residents of this dept, plz step up n speak.
Lay bare the reality of this dept.
In doing so, u can only be helpful in bringing out a revolution which will help many students in future.
We are a population of 1.5 Billion people. Why should we run behind one person. Start Recreuitment for new posts and many doctors will join.
Let him and other people leave.
Our country or hospitals wont stop if one or two people leave.
Only proper medical education and proper protocol in teaching should be followed. Be it any doctor or person.
He is the problem. We dont need heroes, we need doctors who intend to teach and groom new doctors for good healthcare in the future for our country.
I have heard all his atrocities on Resident doctors 20 years back. Still the same issue. Solve the problem at its root and see how good the tree grows.

record all those derogatory comments n remarks....release them in national media...send a complaint to human rights..woman rights...high court with all d evidence...then nikalegi jaanwar aur chappal...release his video or audio wherein he s abusing in d media...
+Jeevanshu Dhawan ....we do had one of this kind but not to this extent....we reported to all d above commissions and got rid of him...as u said...its a big nexus ....u need to have some solid evidence before u report against him...
This has been going on for years. He has big political connections and is related to one of them. Nothing will happen to him. He is in the limca book of records by denying experience to the residents. I think he was also given a Padmashree and is now dean of JJ hospital.
being myself as ophthalmologist, if it is true, its shocking!!Dr lahane is very famous among ophthalmic community. Good that truth came out. well done residents. i dont know why especially in ophthal, PGs not doing simple ECCE or suturing to be first.many PG s have zero knowledge in surgery and because of this ,these fellowship has came up,but dont loose heart.You are in good branch and your future is bright.one suggestion you can write letter to AIOS.
