Nice! For a more accurate template, you can cover the part with masking tape, trace the part, remove the tape and flatten it out on your steel. That way you'll have just the right amount of material once you incorporate the bends. Great video, as always.
This is a great tip. Thanks!
@@jonathan1427 Glad to help, sir
You’re the new age “Red Green”!!.... “if they don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy”🤣😂🤣🤣
I don't see duct tape anywhere with Gus. This is quality work that will last. The guy is a mechanical and fabrication oracle.
I doubt you could have even ordered a new one in the time it took you to make an upgraded part.
It's rare to find someone these days with the skills to do this sort of thing. It was far more common 50 years ago.
Hey Thanks.
Best part is that you 1) didn't have to wait for shipping times, 2) you didn't have to waste time running to your parts store to chase it down...and risk them not even having the right part... I am of your same mindset. Love the videos brother. Keep them up!!
Very true!
Gotta LOVE IT !!! Nice fix ! You spent less time manufacturing than it took to film Ginger the Wonder Dog !!
Only a ford man can fix a chevy better than a chevy man..Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nothing beats an Inexpensive Fabrication Video!👍
Ginger is so smart you may be able to teach her how to fabricate parts! But then again, she would have little use for a pickup door latch! LOL!
So casual about it...
I'd be absolutely giddy if I made something that quickly and easily...AND it actually WORKED!
My Brother's door handle just broke. Time to go fix it!
Have a Great Day!!
Fun Fact: Ginger taught Bo and Luke how to get into and out of vehicles.
Great fix! So satisfying when you can perform the repair entirely by yourself. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Carl. -Moe
I say upon entry there should have been a treat on the seat. 🤣. A little twist and bend and hand filing a stronger mechanism built.
Great job thanks for sharing.
Great idea
Nice! Good spark of inspiration. Doesn't have to be perfect and you can get it done quickly.
And you'll be finished in time without being late for your dentist appt. ha ha ha
lol. That ending was great. Funny stuff.
That was so simple your smart dog could have made it!!!!
Great fix. I stopped jumping out the window after my last birthday. I'm 67 and I don't miss the face plants
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Well done Bud!! That will outlast the Truck!!☺
Makes alot of sense, common sense
You and your dog kick ass man. love it.
Thanks Man.
As great as CNC machines are, Nothing beats getting your hands in there the old school way. Love your videos!
I wish i had half of your knoledge👍
Nice. I was certain that you could handle it!
GOOD ONE!
I have the same body style Chevy. Will try this next time. Thanks👍
Some moron broke into my truck a couple years ago by using a screw driver on the door handle and mangled the door skin around the handle. A clever repair video on that would be awesome.
Thanks man!
Profi fabrication -great fix guaranteed future proof !
I have to make a spring for mine as door handle puller won’t go back in as spring broke 🤘🇬🇧
That dog is badass! good girl
No wonder Ginger keeps you around! I HATE those type handles. The old buttons worked so much better. Thanks, Moe and GBWYall!
Very smart man! I appreciate your videos!
GREAT JOB YOU HAVE SAVED ME SO MUCH MONEY SINCE I SUB 2 YOU THANK YOU. KEEP THEM COMING.
Nice. Its so easy to fix things but people just replace without investigation. A few years ago I repaired a horn assembly. Partly cost and partly running around to get the correct thing. Even did a video on it.
Excellent fix
That will outlast a new one by far ! Great share Moe..
Fun-shunal (functional) hand-crafted :)
Amazing craftsmanship
Hey Thanks.
Nice work!
Bo and Luke Duke agree don't need no stinking doors we got windows
You are a MASTER!
Thanks for the fix vid. Now I know what to look at when the ones on my dad's truck breaks.
Hey Thanks man.
@@sixtyfiveford you are welcome.
I love that dog!
That's a cool door handle. Gives me Ideas for making a grill for the 75 Dodge 1 ton Dually with a nice Conex for a killer camper, I just bought because finding one is a pain, and getting anyone to answer about it is a horror (because they don't lol).
So they do have some metal in there LOL. Hey nice economical job short & sweet.
Good job 👍 198
Stay safe, Joe Z
True.
Great video, love resourceful people.
Hey thanks
Brian from Ma.Love the video its channels like yours and Men like you that remind me of can do atatudes i had a channel before and now i am fixing to start a nother one anywho Besafe
Thanks!
Good go. You'd have stood in line at the parts counter longer than that even if they managed to give you the right part the first time.
Yeah my GMC fell victim to the tailgate handle breaking actually wound up welding that back together but yeah what's with GM and their door handles come on now
Great dog
Some people think my entire lifestyle revolves around doing this sort of thing. LOL They may be correct. Last time I fabricated parts for a door opener, was inside the tailgate of my 89 f250. Just like this one, there are two parts in there that are cheesy. I made my own parts from steel. Tailgate now opens with one hand.
You get a sense of pride every time you open the tailgate, I'm sure.
You are like me if I can fix it I will I hate that cheap pot metal and plastic crap👍
Well said.
Dukes of Hazard stylin :)
Tail gate next
Re making parts is something I like to do also ,especially when you can improve upon it. In this instance I would be considering hardening the piece, especially due to fracturing of cold bending. I would also consider why it broke in the first place, usually due to other worn or sticking parts in the mechanism it is operating. Just a simple spray of lubricant in latch can make a difference.
Hard parts are brittle parts. I would heat treat to normalise the part after cold-forming, removing stress. Bluing would provide corrosion protection. And yeah, slather it in grease.
You don't need a door handle, nice
Awesome
nice!
Mechanics fix things no just replace parts ..I once spent way to long fixing a trunk latch on my 64 Galaxie But I did not have to run around half the state looking for one
Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was before. Better...stronger...faster.
Nice fix 👍. wasn’t all plastic
Thanks 👍
Ginger is more into window handles :-) You can sell those metal L's. Ford should have used strong steel like you did.
Nice, liked
I promised myself that I would never own a dog that was smarter than me
What kind of hammer is that called? Seems like it would be useful to add to my tool box for shaping like you did here.
I think is a shoe makers hammer or just a brand nail hammer. I use it all the time.
What did you use to cut the metal? Angle grinder? Bandsaw?
Just an angle grinder.
The handles that broke on my truck are the rear door handles in between the doors are those don't the same or is it better to just buy new ones
I've never had to do the rear handles on these.
@@sixtyfiveford both mine broke in a week's time I'll take them off to see if they can be done like this
Nice job!!! Now why can't GM spend the extra 2 cents per vehicle to put a steel part in there?
Good question!
Ginger.. "Why did you make me jump out?" "Go get some chicken nuggets."
Don’t need no stinkin door handle!
Yes i thought making a copy out of real metal would be your way :-D
And if it was not strong enough a bead of weld down both sides may have been your option.
While you were in the fabricating mood, better make one for the other door ha ha :-D
GREAT FIX !!!! U should have reinforced the area where it broke ????? Extra thick Grey JB-Weld ???
I think the steel will hold up better than the original zinc part.
@@sixtyfiveford GREAT ........ LOVE your dog. I have 2 dogs.
Hahahahahah. Door handles are pointless! That’s a new shirt saying.
Hey Thanks.
Make and sell on ebay become millionaire!
Dang chevy door handles are so junk.
It is lead.
It's something cheesey
It's a chebby,drive it off a cliff and buy a Dodge...
