For the people that are worried that this will steal developers' jobs, this won't and probably will not be for a while (hopefully). A lot more nuance goes into developing a game that AI, as of right now, is not capable of fully doing or understanding, such as creating systems that interact with each other, utilizing a complex framework or game environment, etc. If anything, this will most likely be used for rapid prototyping. HOWEVER, this does not excuse that we shouldn't ask where it's getting its information from and how it is going to be utilized, THAT'S the scary part.

the thing is, it isn't really to teach you about it, it's just to automate it. if anything it'll hurt new devs bc they'll resort to the AI when they can't figure something out rather then figuring out. which means they won't learn.

From a Developer
I think the AI will probably take from the documentation, as every games code comes from it, and there would be no need to analyze already existing code.
I also believe AI is a mostly good thing, as it can be a very useful tool to save time from smaller tasks. The amount of time it takes to fully plan and type out code for just small tasks really eats the motivation to code the actual parts of the game. Simply typing in what you need can save so much time.
However I think it should only be restricted to being a tool for developers. It should not be used to make complete games, as that defeats the purpose of developers. It would also lead to the overall quality of roblox games to be very low.

hopefully people wont exploit this, personally, I think its a good idea for a beginner coder and they want to learn and reference from the ai without searching up a tutorial on CZcams from 2018. on the other hand, people could use this to steal other people's games and all that jazz. if roblox could catch this quick enough and improve the ai to prevent this, that'd be cool. but overall its kinda mixed. praying its not gonna go downhill đ
@Unity x2 BEEP BOOP BEEP BOOP BOT SPEAKING HERE đ€đ€đ€
Beginners can already learn and reference using older freemodels from before malware injection became pandemic, that's what I did to make my own plane script, alongside a basic understanding of bodymovers and FilteringEnabled. In my opinion, there's very little need to learn from AI when you have such vast resources as the model library and the API lookup on the Developer Hub.

I think this'll be a positive change in the long-run. Right now, it'll hurt the experienced devs but it'll definitely boost the overall creativity of the platform. The reason so many of those repeat copy and paste games are popping off is because there are no alternatives, anyone who'd want to change it or make something better shrinks back after seeing how difficult it is to code. Hopefully now that will change, they'll actually let their creativity fly and create amazing games with this update. edit: i think it'll be a good turn towards making Roblox more creativity based than the current mindset, which is about getting paid.

Honestly it is a good idea, however it removes the hard work people put in their own game, since now people can just type a thing and the AI can just do that, making them not do much effort. Overall, they just need to work on this, considering there is backlash on this coming to ROBLOX feature by many developers saying that it is becoming too simple, making all the tutorials not that useful and only for experienced developers. i really appreciate albert speaking out about this issue as an artist myself, i wouldn't want devs' code to be just straight up stolen by an ai đ

I think this is a different matter as there aren't really similarities between coding and drawing, a lot of coders in general just take a lot of code from the internet and other coders anyway.
it probably gets code from dev forum posts :skull:
@@tuhunerd Yes, there are actually well known websites where developers post their code for certain things, for the sole purpose being to let others be able to copy and paste, and use in their own games to make everything easier.
I don't think the issue here is AI using other peoples coding to make things happen, more than the fear that AI will just be able to create games or other software in the future completely on their own which we are still far from.
Im not a developer but I think 90% would agree that they would rather just type in what they want to happen on certain objects rather than painstakingly find the right code to use. as if right now this AI is just one big plus for everyone. it takes less work to code specific objects in games, allows new developers to start, and veteran developers to be able to outdo themselves.
@@tuhunerd okay you make quite a good point there. i may just be upset over the use of ai in any form of creation that doesn't *require* ai at all, even if it does bring convenience to its creators
2:34 the programming language Roblox uses (Lua) has a lot of information about it online (like any other programming language does), so the AI most likely won't have to reference code from Roblox developers as that is only a fraction of the code there is to find about Lua
I honestly support this, while it might hurt devs that have been on the platform for a while, and also hurt scripters, it decreases their workload. The material thing is fantastic too. Hopefully this will be implemented but the only downside is that itâll make scripters less valuable in comparison to a robot that can do it for you.
the upside is it shouldn't be able to fully script something out for you, only a part or example of it maybe, because I don't think that's gonna be possible for a while
Trust me, this won't replace actual scripters and programmers for a LOOOOONG time. The AI can do simple things, but it won't replace a human for a while.
people gonna make a game somebody prob really wanted to make
if the only downside of AI is always just that people will lose monetary value doesn't that say something about our economic system more than AI
I'm excited for this because it would open up the ability for mw to just be able to mess around and would soften the learning curve a bit, and maybe make it easier to learn (watching what the AI codes and then eventually be able to do it yourself). I just hope they don't steal from creators. Perhaps if they trained it themselves, or hired people to train it who are famous in the community, or even just paid a how-to company and fed it a bunch of their coding tutorials, idk
Super happy you brought this up! AI "art" is very unnerving considering how any artist can get stolen from and possibly replaced :(. I am however super excited to see many new developers come and make some super cool new games, just really hope this doesn't replace the developers who actually learned to code.
Dude, an AI isn't going to completely copy and steal some guys work. An AI looks at like 1,00000 other artworks and makes stuff from all of them. Making something COMPLETELY different. How is that really stealing?
Nobody is going to be replaced. Most jobs ever haven't been replaced by robots even though they probably could.
The people who think this stuff have the minds of children
@@combine161 I'm just saying it's a small fear of mine đ«
can you actually explain how it will ever be possible for AI art to "replace" human art
Roblox has actually told us how the AI works. Itâs using the AI language model ChatGPT. Additionally, no code will be stolen from any games. The AI learns from the Roblox developer API documentation. (Basically where Roblox themselves explained how to code). It also learns from articles all across the web. Iâm summary, Roblox is not stealing developers code. Iâd love to see more research done here before promoting this to millions of people who will undoubtedly start a riot on twitter.
That aside, great video promoting ChatGPT!
it's nice to see some reason from a brain developed enough to have just read about how it works
i like the "code it for you" thing tbh. even basic coding is so hard for me to grasp
i draw the line when it steals from devs and artists or generates entire games for you though

@@KingOfNothingLR The thing is, a lot of people who want to make games on Roblox are just kids. They donât have money or connections like that. Roblox is a platform for creativity for anyone and making scripting much easier is definitely part of that.
As someone who has been programming in roblox for over 4 years, I see no issue with the generative coding. Itâs great because it means people will be able to make games without needing to spend forever to learn how to code, but this really only works with simple games, as itâs hard to have enough detail in your description for the AI to make exactly what you want, and make it work with other scripts it already made
I also have no issue with it using our scripts to train, as you canât learn a new skill without looking at how other people did it, unless itâs a skill you just invented, and the same applies to the AI learning how to code what you ask
Overall, AI programming for people is pretty alright to me, a long term (semi) professional programmer on roblox
People WILL still need real programmers for more complex games and ideas, and especially for getting really unique concepts made.
This is a tool for beginners, even though it will get better over time.

you have no reason to not like AI you just think humans matter more than they do
1:07 It sucks for hard working developers ofc, but it opens up that possibility of being able to create that game idea ive had for a while.
I think streamlining coding is completely fine. I believe unreal engine(?) already does something similar (not the EXACT same, but simplified nonetheless: you still need a basic understanding of functions, switches and the like to actually get it to work), and it basically just makes things way easier. It also doesn't actively harm anyone, either. AI art is bad because it can violate artists' properties, case in point with all the [no-no word] finishing/"improving" of sketches and the like. (I would also mention that it puts artists out of a job, but with the recent development that AI generated material cannot be copyrighted, and the fact that tech bros never would have commissioned art in the first place, I don't think it's that much of a threat financially anymore. It's still goddamn annoying though.) Besides, it's likely AI coding will be pretty damn messy. You can code things many different ways, and all of those ways have varying efficiencies. If they are training the AI off of unoptimized data (ie. A ton of kill brick scripts created at different times across the span of the last 10 years), then it might only be worth using for unimportant or unintegral assets. Time will only tell, though.
Asset generation to me is also fine, since assets are not the main focus of a game: yes, they definitely contribute to enjoyment and quality, but things like a story or gameplay loop are obviously more important; and are important to keep AI generation away from.
AI generated content is honestly a huge threat for artists everywhere, specifically game creators in this case (Ik I mentioned that AI stuff cannot be copyrighted as of now, but it's only set in stone once we see Disney's opinion of it lmao), however I don't think it's too big of a deal for Roblox devs. Games with AI genned content are probably just going to become the equivalent to free-modeled games. A game succeeding isn't always entirely dependent on good graphics or technological achievement: it is based on cohesive direction and a gameplay loop that keeps players interested. I'm cautiously optimistic that this AI stuff will hardly make a difference to Roblox, and will hopefully decrease tedium instead of treading on the hard work of game devs.
I also want to add in here at the end; I do not think coding is less valuable than art. I believe coding is an art in of itself. You should rather learn it than have a robot do it for you! However, as an outsider looking in (im too stupid to code đ), it seems there's really no stigma to stealing/sharing code. Maybe people can carry the same sentiment with AI code? I guess only time can tell (hopefully this doesn't end horribly LOL)
thank you for coming to my ted talk (now if only i could put the same passion i put into writing youtube comments as i do essays)
I was gonna read this, but I pressed read more and gave up.

The United States was a neutral country at the time; the attack led to its formal entry into World War II the next day. The Japanese military leadership referred to the attack as the Hawaii Operation and Operation AI,[11][nb 4] and as Operation Z during its planning.[13]The attack was preceded by months of negotiations between the U.S. and Japan over the future of the Pacific. Japanese leaders demanded the U.S. end its sanctions against Japan, cease aiding China in the Second Sino-Japanese war, allow Japan to access the resources of the Dutch East Indies, and more. Anticipating a negative response from the US, Japan sent out its naval attack groups in November 1941 just prior to receiving the Hull notethe U.S. demand that Japan withdraw from China and Indochina.[14]Japan intended the attack as a preventive action. Its aim was to prevent the United States Pacific Fleet from interfering with its planned military actions in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and those of the United States. Over the course of seven hours there were coordinated Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines, Guam, and Wake Island and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong.[15]The attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time (6:18 p.m. GMT).[nb 5][16] The base was attacked by 353[17] Imperial Japanese aircraft (including fighters, level and dive bombers, and torpedo bombers) in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers.[17] Of the eight U.S. Navy battleships present, all were damaged, with four sunk. All but USS Arizona were later raised, and six were returned to service and went on to fight in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship,[nb 6] and one minelayer. More than 180 US aircraft were destroyed.[19] 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded.[20] Important base installations such as the power station, dry dock, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 64 servicemen killed. Kazuo Sakamaki, the commanding officer of one of the submarines, was captured.[21]Japan announced declarations of war on the United States and the British Empire later that day (December 8 in Tokyo), but the declarations were not delivered until the following day. The British government declared war on Japan immediately after learning that their territory had also been attacked, while the following day (December 8) the United States Congress declared war on Japan. On December 11, though they had no formal obligation to do so under the Tripartite Pact with Japan, Germany and Italy each declared war on the U.S., which responded with a declaration of war against Germany and Italy. There were numerous historical precedents for the unannounced military action by Japan, but the lack of any formal warning (required by part III of the Hague Convention of 1907), particularly while peace negotiations were still apparently ongoing, led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy". Because the attack happened without a declaration of war and without explicit warning, the attack on Pearl Harbor was later judged in the Tokyo Trials to be a war crime.[22][23].

On a positive note, maybe it would get information from submissions but that would be a stretch for Roblox.
Honestly the best way they could turn this a.I thing into a very positive change is: When using a.i to « code » something in, roblox could add a feature that shows the developer how that a.i generated code works and what x does and what y does etc etc. You probably get it. This a.i could be used as a teaching tool. Honestly thatâs what I want it to turn into
2:10 But I feel the problem with this is the Theseus' paradox. If you manipulate art to the point it's beyond recognition and something wholly different, is this not something different now? When we take inspiration, we make an idea, formed from something to start with. But then twist and change it until it is something new. In the end both are creating something unique. I feel like this doesn't hold as much weight, though I might be missing something here.
I wholeheartedly agree. If it is deformed beyond recognition, then it cannot be the same. It is like saying an ai generated imahe of a small village at night is copying Van Gogh's (however its spelled) Starry Night.
Image* why didn't autocorrect work there ;-;
in the video he literally explains why ai cannot be âinspiredâ

When you mentioned it would say horrible things some AI take longer to snap. For example ChatGPT it is genuinely kinder than a human would be because if you say something rude to it, it will still strive to be polite. I don't know if it stays polite forever so this is just all I know.
corpo AI won't get rude unless you do some very specific prompt engineering on it (because whatever team made the AI already has it following a prompt and that prompt ensures it acts a certain way)
unless you're using an actual AI model instead of interacting with a chatbot
0:07 that's called interrogation buddy
I don't think this will steal developers jobs as it can probably only do very simple code and not anything complex and you still need some coding knowledge to be able to use it and make the code it generates work with your game. All it will do is make some coding a bit easier. Also AI is very buggy and could make code that does not work properly

Oh man I had the exact idea, talk normally and it would become code, except the one I was thinking of was the language itself
I think this is a good IDEA (to an extent). If utilized correctly it will make developers jobs much easier scripting more complex systems in a less amount of time. However, I am worried about how Roblox might choose to execute their new AI development system.
I personally think that if AI dev tries to depend on your info instead of it trying to learn from experience is the worst case scenario, it also adds up to making more problems and more tougher to code and for it to learn if learned by taking info.

It seems like an interesting concept that would allow people to gain a lot of knowledge, but theft is definitely a big issue with it.

AI can be a useful tool for developing games, and make the quality and scope of amateur dev projects much better and easier to make. It will never replace developers, but be a tool for them to use. The most an AI could really make is very basic games.

2:00 as a person who is learning to program neural networks, it isn't true that neural networks don't learn from art or can't generative original content. It is infact comparable to human learning of drawing art. Therefore this is an non-issue. AI art is not theft.
For those interested how modern neural networks learn to generate images is by attempting to reconstruct images after noise being applied to it, with more noise being applied over the training. It then generates completely new images, but with features of prior images that were extracted during the training. It then generates new images from random noise. It doesn't remember the images themselves but rather characteristics of them. The process is called diffusion. Although there are alternative models such as GANs but diffusion models are considered to be most efficient.
Another thing to note. Neural networks are modeled after animal brains. While not entirely same. It's structure is getting more and more similar to human. For example, computer vision algorithms such as image detection and generation have convolutional layers, which are structured after the visual cortex. To say all AI art is theft, same should apply to human art.
Besides, the concept of copy right is silly and just slows down progression of the collective.
you are based

Honestly Iâm happy for the ai update it makes it easier for people who canât code but want to make a game. In my opinion itâs helpful and very well easier to code. All my respect to the developers that actually code
The witch from Kalevala? Why Is She in the back 1:39
Actually seems really cool! You can make really good games that are great quality quicker than manually code it!
I don't think we need to be concerned about the AI stealing from other games. The AI will probably work by using Lua, which is the coding program used in Roblox Studio. It will probably use a sort of recognition system in order to detect what the code should tell the computer. So to put it shortly it will just translate your language, eg: English, and put into a language that the computer can understand. So in conclusion the AI will probably not be stealing anything from anyone.
you're a few steps off, the part that does what you described is actually LUA
Flamingo⊠clean your roomđ
what the hell were you saying around 3:00
this is probably a terrible idea, but i think the ai should be like an update assistant to the developer for an already existing game. i think it should be like if a developer wants to get an update done faster, they use the ai. i dont really think its a good idea to let EVERYONE use it to build things, so i think its better off just aiding developers that have actual games instead of just the starter place.
@flamingo_50shut up please

I don't know much about coding but I imagine the bots will make their own code because code is something that can be created and learned and a super computer could definitely code without stealing.
