Spelunky 2 - Seeded Cosmic Ocean TAS in

- After making the Seeded Any% TAS, I remembered about a seed someone found with the idea of using it for a Cosmic Ocean TAS. That was almost two years ago, back when the now-outdated TAS Tool was the only TASing script. Armed with the new better TAS Wizard script, I began TASing that seed. This TAS is the result of about a week's worth of on and off work. All inputs you see in the video were inputted frame-by-frame with a real controller with the ability to replay levels as many times as needed. This is obviously not meant to complete with human runs and is purely for entertainment and seeing the limits of the game.
Special thanks to:
fenex in the Spelunky Community Discord for finding the seed almost two years ago.
Cosine for making the TAS Wizard script, which allowed me to make this TAS.
Members of the Spelunky Community Discord for expressing support with the few updates I did on the TAS in the s2-speedrun channel.
FAQ:
Q: Why is the game zoomed out?
A: I set the camera zoom to 3x in Overlunky to make this video more easily watchable, as the default zoom makes it extremely difficult to see what is happening. I also used a script to reset the camera zoom for the constellation screen, as it is not meant to be zoomed out.
Q: How much preparation was done?
A: All I knew going into the seed was that there was a Telepack in the ceiling of 1-1. I did not scout the rest of the seed, which I really should have done just in case.
Q: Why a buried Telepack instead of one in a crate?
A: Telepacks and Hoverpacks, despite a basecamp dialog implying that they can be found in crates, never actually spawn in crates.
Q: Why did you steal the Spike Shoes?
A: I realized that there may be instances where I need to land on a thorny vine in a cosmic Jungle level, which did end up happening. The shop was also on 2-4, so there were no consequences for sealing it. The arrow in the bow also needed to be fired at some point, so hitting the shopkeeper with it allowed me to get the Spike Shoes by touching it instead of needing to pick it up.
Q: Where did you disappear to in 7-4?
A: Hundun's crushing elevator (internal object name) is eight tiles tall, while a max downward teleport is nine tiles. There is a floor down there, and I also stood on the entrance door platform to quickly get back into the level. I went down there purely for entertainment as the level is an autoscroller.
Q: Why did you use a bomb / rope for an orb in a Cosmic Ocean level?
A: There were some orbs I deemed worth using a resource on to save time.

“Oh, that’s why.”
This is what I picture in my head while using the telepack, in the seconds between when picking it up and exploding.
Absolute legend 💪
i dont think i could beat this
Nah you got this
Yeah you just gotta put a little backbone into it
Just memorize all the inputs the Tas did and try doing the same inputs
This is what peak Spelunky looks like

We’re making it out of Cosmic Ocean with this one 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯
I don't know if I was getting teleporter asmr but I started falling asleep to this video
If Twiggle was still around I imagine he could beat it. Somehow. He always pulled off the impossible.
If they ever made a Spelunky pinball machine, this is what it would play like
great comment

Pov you handed beg the controller
Wow! Amazing work. And you're welcome for the seed ;)
So freaking close to a sub-1 (*minute*) entry
The moon challenge though. Sick video Spencer 👍
Awesome work thanks for sharing!
This is so cool!
Incredible!
Over 10% Hundun's Hideaway.
actually insane
this is peak spelunky
thats a speedlunky achievement
Mesmerizing. . .

How does the TAS force the TP distance?
Very fun to watch, especially the Hundun fight.
I have basically no control what the teleport distance is going to be, but every frame has its own teleport distance. I can wait a frame to potentially get a different teleport distance.
RNG in this game is reseeded at the start of level, presumably for online multiplayer. This means that if you input the exact same inputs in the same seed in 2 runs, they will play out the same because the starting RNG is the same. The TAS is just playing back inputs, so the same things happen every time the TAS is played back.
roffy mains could never

“Going into cosmic ocean takes 2 or 3 hours *my Stupid head* alright bet
How long has the underthefloor hundun been known about??? I found out about it a few weeks ago I think and posted a video about it, but I didn't know if it was already known about.
I've known about getting under the Hundun spikes for so long that I don't remember if I discovered it independently or heard it from someone else. It apparently wasn't well known to the speedrun community, as some runners did not know about it. After doing a small amount of digging in the Spelunky Community Discord, I found a Reddit post from Dracibatic from March 5, 2021 about teleporting under the spikes, so they were probably one of the first people to figure that out. www.reddit.com/r/spelunky/comments/lyvbf7/teleporting_out_of_bounds_in_olmecs_43_and_hunduns/
Interesting. I wasn’t sure but I had figured it out on my own while using overlunky. It was a pretty cool discovery for me.
Is it possible to do a TAS no gold + low% + pacifist cosmic ocean?
내가 찾던게 여기있네
How do you get your camera like that?
Overlunky mod
i am guessing rng manipulation was a part of this
Do I understand it right that TAS is used like a video editing software?
You play the game yourself, and use TAS to edit the gameplay pieces and glue them together.
So everything is done manually, there is no decisions made by TAS itself?
I must admit I would be more excited if TAS was allowed to search for better inputs automatically.
At least to locally optimize a playthrough done by human.
This is a great example of unmedicated adhd
Bro what the duck
1:55 Wait where did he disappear
how are u whipping so fast? 2:24
probably frame perfect TAS whipping
@@IEatSandForSport I get that, but don't you usually have to finish the whip animation before being able whip?
My best guess is that the teleporting lets you immediatly Imput a whip right after, seemingly canceling the whip while the animation is still there.
The video sound its only telepack
Why did yo u disappear during the hundun fight?? 1:53
Under the spikes
And I can’t even beat dwelling 1-1
This can’t be real. The teleport is RNG
Hat happened in 1:55 to 1:59?
I went below the spikes. Hundun's crushing elevator (internal object name) is eight tiles tall, while a max downward teleport is nine tiles. There is a floor down there, and I also stood on the entrance door platform to quickly get back into the level. I went down there purely for entertainment as the level is an autoscroller.
I takes me more than 5 minutes to beat 1-1 cuz i die one or two times.
my cousin got a better time in '85
