In our 2015 interview with lead singer Stephan Jenkins, he described this song as "a noir about a guy who jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he was gay," adding, "It was really about bullying."
Netflix just added Yes man and I re watched it for the first time since it came out on theaters. Made me remember how much I love this song, fucking legendary. Keep you heads up kiddos ✊🏽
I busk often (performing in public for tips, in my case, acoustic guitar and singing), and I've had this song requested literally a dozen times in a night, three of which were from the same person (I probably spent a good ten minutes that night explaining to the guy that I didn't know the song), so I think it's about time I learn this.
@@roebucksummers8614 I learned it, only to discover that none of the people requesting it knew or cared about anything after the intro-chorus. It’s still fun to belt, though.
The lead singer of this band is still alive... Stephan Jenkins has said that the song came from a story 3EB's manager told them about a guy that was a friend of his in highschool who was gay. Being gay wasn't accepted where he lived and the guy ended up committing suicide because of it. The song is also about difficult experiences Stephan went through during his childhood.
Love this song... Jim Carrey has messed it up for me, I always hold the notes to long when I sing it, lol. I feel like he should've actually recorded a cover though!
Yes! When I heard it the first time that's exactly what it reminded me of. It's really the same 'theme' I guess, and they sound pretty similar on an acoustic guitar as well.
almost... i love this type of music, and play guitar so i like learnign these songs.. but ur right i didnt no that band until i saw Yes Man. this song is great.
Stephan wqas one of the best things to happen to the 90's, he was truly unique in his style and lyricsm. He deserves our respect regardless off what he songs like live. If he thought like you maybe "3eb" and "blue" albums, would never have been written. And i can't even begin to think how unfortunate it would be if he never graced the music industry. Cheers.
It's popular because it was playing on the radio all the time when it was released and still is played... This song wouldn't have even been in that movie if 3eb hadn't made it what it is.
I almost feel wierd commenting about this. This is a great song, however Jim Carrie's "cover" in Yes Man makes me sing and shed a tear EVERY TIME I see it.
Don't hate the movie. As a fan you should be happy that there are people actually becoming fans of Third Eye Blind. I know I have heard people do songs by artists I've never heard before and it made me want to look at all the music that artist has done. So, stop knocking the fans of Yes, Man. You should be jumping for joy that Third Eye Blind has more fans because of that movie.
Jim is a great actor. Jut when he sings it- it is to happy to represent the meaning of this song. To stop someone from committing suicide would not be pleasurable.
whenever someone mentions this song i always picture jim carrey saving luis guzmán’s life :D
Yeah right...Yes Man...what an underrated movie.
H
@@christianfernandez3374 I didn't know it was underrated. It is such a great movie! Everyone should watch it.
this is the song that saved my life more than once
Hope you're still around and okay ❤️
Bud you here 10 years later?
One of the best songs ever.
Killer performance. I don't know what music would be like for me if it weren't for the 90's.
Amen

That drummer is on point, makes the song.

So how did it go for you?

Great song, great music, great band!

if jim carrey made an acoustic mix to this like he did in yes man i would listen to it.
He's just singing lower notes. They are still on key though.

Really nice song...but it's true that the Jim Carrey really nailed it!
I wish you would step back from that mic my friend
Super Song and Super Scene cannot afford to miss it
Yes! When I heard it the first time that's exactly what it reminded me of. It's really the same 'theme' I guess, and they sound pretty similar on an acoustic guitar as well.
It makes me sad that I would rather listen Jim Carrey sing it 😂😂😂😥😭
