  • Monster Magnet is an American rock band from Red Bank, New Jersey, formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Dave Wyndorf, guitarist John McBain, and drummer and vocalist Tim Cronin. Known for contributing to the stoner rock genre, the band has experienced numerous lineup changes, with Wyndorf being the only consistent member. Over the years, Monster Magnet has released ten studio albums, gaining recognition in the 1990s with hits like "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" and "Space Lord."
The band initially experimented with several names and released two demos under their final name, which was inspired by a 1960s toy. Their early work included singles like "Lizard Johnny/Freakshop USA" and an EP that led to their first full album, "Spine of God," in 1991-a cornerstone of stoner rock. This debut featured on Caroline Records and included the track "Medicine," which became their first music video.
Following their initial success, Monster Magnet toured with Soundgarden, which helped them secure a deal with A&M Records. Their continued releases, including the notable EP "Tab" featuring a 32-minute title track, solidified their reputation in the rock genre. Despite frequent member changes, including the replacement of McBain with Ed Mundell from Atomic Bitchwax, Monster Magnet has maintained a strong presence in the rock music scene, continually evolving their sound while influencing the stoner rock genre.
